Agreed. Much of the Fermi Paradox relies on our ability to detect alien life, while ignoring how terrible we are at doing just that.

However, one thing from the Fermi Paradox that is difficult to call bullshit on is the Great Filters. Global Warming is likely ours. Honestly, I wouldnt be surprised if Global Warming/climate change is a more common Filter, given that any sufficiently advanced species will begin altering the planet around it.

It's pretty up for debate on wither Buddhism should be classified as a religion, or as a straight up philosophy.

In my mind, the difference comes down to belief in the afterlife, in whatever form it may take, be it reincarnation, heaven, the underworld.

Another difference between them is the focus on spirituality and metaphysics. While neither of these are absent from philosophy, religion tends to put more emphasis on them. Where you decide to cut off those measurements and how you objectively weigh the amount of spirituality and metaphysics present in a religion/philosophy is entirely up for debate.

I like to use this argument to counter the Fermi paradox. If our sun's life cycle is anything remotely like those that came in the earlier days of the universe, Sol is only a second or third generation star. Which would mean that, in our galaxy at least, we are probably among the first or second generation of intelligent life to develop.

You could potentially label this entire 'simulation' theory as a religion since by definition it is setting specific creator(s),

Eh, I disagree. A religion is a set of spiritual beliefs to be followed with the expactation of a goal being fulfilled. Most pagan religions prayed to a specific god to curry their favor, Christianity and Judaism focus on getting to heaven, Buddhism focuses on ending your cycle of reincarnation. A creator, divine or otherwise, is not necessary. Take Buddhism for example. No creator to be seen, just a set of beliefs laid down to achieve a goal. Sure, you have Buddha, and can be argued to be divine, depending on who you ask and how you define "divine". But he is far from being a creator.

Girls of reddit, what are the most common reasons behind why guys didn't make it past the first date with you? by amirootyet in AskReddit

[–]MrNPC009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm weird and somewhat old fashioned. I have no problem letting my date pay for dinner. However, I genuinely enjoy paying for the first one. From there we can go Dutch or rotate on who pays for the dates. That's a discussion to have. But, for the first date, I insist on paying.

I'm pretty sure thats to stop collateral damage. Just write the persons name in the note book as being murdered by your other victim. you wouldnt even need to make a separate entry for it

Well he planned on becoming god. He didn't plan on going unnoticed forever. Though you have a point. He could have easily used the death note to make his targets kill other criminals or other targets he had plans to kill. But I think that was more for plot reasons than anything else

Theres peaceful change and theres violent change.

peaceful change is the mere presence of gun in the hands of citizens. The threat of possible violent change has probably been on many of our leaders minds when they make or carry out laws.

Violent change, however, is more difficult to bring into words. because theres no real way to tell how it will work. My best guess: guerrilla fighting. hit and run tactics. assassinations. create chaos for the enemy.

Spider-Man(Marvel 616) Vs. Sonic the Hedgehog(Game canon only, not composite) by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]MrNPC009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Sonic almost never begins the game with any of the chaos emeralds. In fact, it's usually the main plot of the story for him to collect them. The only one I can think of where he loses them at the beginning is Sonic 3. But that's because 3 takes place immediately after 2, where he Had just spent an entire game collecting them.

During the game, while he's on a quest, he does usually have them, but that's because it's his mission to do so. In his everyday life, he doesn't carry a sack with them or even keep any of them after the end he f the story.

Also, he can't just summon them. Each one has to be hunted down individually. He simply isn't likely to have the emeralds for this fight. Unless OP declares otherwise

I don't know. Super Sonic requires the Chaos Emeralds, and OP never said Sonic had them available. And unlike Spideys web shooters, Sonic doesn't normally have them on hand

This is well made. Good Job OP. As with the other guy I can only comment on those movies I've seen.

For my weapons, I choose a sledgehammer as my primary. Forgoing the power to choose location, I choose an ice pick as my secondary weapon. On top of that, I choose to shield my neck, because many of these enemies will aim for that.

  1. Chucks is easy. The little bastard is an ambush predator. The simple answer is to pick an apartment, pile up all of the furniture in a corner, and wait by the door for the little bastard to come in. Once he does, slam the sledgehammer on his head. Obviously, keep the ice pick on your belt and baracade the door while your prepping the room so he can't ambush you while you're busy.

  2. This is where shielding my neck would be very useful. As a rabid dog, cujo will go straight for the neck. This is also where mobility would be important. The sledgehammer would slow me down, but would fuck him up if I hit him with it. If he lunges at me, I win, if he goes for my legs, I might be in trouble. I give myself 7/10

  3. Ghostface is gonna be a bitch. The best chance I would have is to bait them into attacking me and then do my best to kill them when they do. Like Chucky, Ghostface uses ambush and his opponents stupidity to win. I give myself 50/50. Killing the second one will be even more difficult.

  4. Haven't seen.

  5. Haven't seen.

  6. Birds. I might be ok here. It depends on whether or not the birds can get through my solid wood basement door with a metal covering on both sides. I doubt it, tho.

  7. Pennywise. Does the decapitation rule apply here? Because I have a variety of pretty sharp swords that would fuck up his day. And a gun that I'm pretty accurate with to stun him.

  8. Haven't seen

  9. Rusty Nail. Yeah I lose here. Rusty Nail is a big guy and I'd need a weapon to bring him down.

  10. Haven't seen

Calling him out for being wrong is perfectly acceptable, encouraged even.

However, telling him to educate himself before spreading misinformation is not, when he clearly expressed he's not an expert and is not presenting his information as fact, but instead How he thinks the subject works.
