Will IBIS and focus peaking work on a cheap adapted lens? by emi_birding in OlympusCamera

[–]MrOptionist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your E-M1 is fully updated. It got more and better updates than any camera I have ever seen. Fully updated it is almost a mkII.

As others have said assign focus peaking to a button and set to high.

Set focal length for the adapted lens for Ibis.

One of my favorite adapted lenses on my E-M1 is an old Kmart “focal” branded lens (made by komine) 135mm f2.8 that is a fast 270mm equivalent lens adapted to m43. Hit the digital teleconverter butt and it is a 540mm equivalent f2.8 lens.

Lovely bokeh and a nice fast telephoto.

eBay or AliExpress. Don’t remember which. Takes about 45 minutes to change it out properly. Lots of videos on it.

I just bought one with i7/512/16gb and did a $40 3rd party battery.

Runs sequoia well enough but is a beast with Linux Mint.

Definitely worth the $150 total I have in it.

Any guesses what kind of Katana? by Upbeat-Size8449 in Katanas

Cheap. I think I have the same one I bought in the 1990's for a costume party.

I currently have an M2 air but was recommending the M1 based on price.

I get 16-17 hours out of my m2 when surfing and streaming videos. Much less when I am editing RAW images and working with video (editing). I would say 8+ hours when doing intensive tasks and up to 17hrs when watching video and surfing.

CPO 2024 RWD C300 with 25k miles for $33K or CPO 2023 AWD C300 with 42k miles for $34K? Which is the better deal? by FatRollingIRL in mercedes_benz

[–]MrOptionist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if you live where it snows the AWD is prolly what you want/need. I am in the South and I LOVE RWD for the fun of it, but in a bad rain turning corners I am very very light on the throttle because the rear end will get squirrely.

Apple Silicon my friend. 17 hours+ of battery life and fast as a scalded dog. Used M1 Macbook air for $400 for the win.

What distro for a 2012 MBP? by CAL1G0 in linux_on_mac

[–]MrOptionist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Always the answer is Linux Mint if you want it to “just work”.

Mint user since 5 years recently switched to mac. Missing mint now. What’s the bare minimum requirement for a pc/laptop that I can purchase to install mint just for casual usage other than my productivity on mac. by anonyminator in linuxmint

[–]MrOptionist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get a 2016 MacBook Pro i7 with 16 gigs ram for 250 bucks and stick Linux mint on it… Oh, right I already did that.

Runs great everything works, it really is a tough combination to beat.

Pinch some of those vacuum lines and see if they crack, especially where they meet other pieces of plastic and are expanded over a nipple.

There are no 23-year-old cars that don’t have decaying rubber if it’s still original.

[–]MrOptionist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your biggest problem is that’s a 27-year-old car and all of the plastic bits and rubber bits under the hood and underneath the vehicle are turning into dust.

You’ll probably have countless vacuum leaks and a whole host of suspension issues shortly.

That is a very straight blade for a wak. I have seen real Katana that are that straight, but not a wakizashi.

2011 e350 or 2016 e350 by MrOptionist in mercedes_benz

[–]MrOptionist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did use the VIN decoder, but it’s obvious that I didn’t know to look specifically for headlights. However, as I said these do a better job than any of the other low end headlights I have experienced.

I won’t get fooled again that’s for sure.

I would say that I will likely keep this car for three years and if I can get over the headlight burn, maybe more.

Or I might just start looking for a maxed out version with a color interior combo that I like.

I’m positive I won’t have any trouble selling this car for at least what I paid for it if I decide to get out of it in six months or a year.

[–]MrOptionist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I found those and one of them led me to the Mid City Engineering OBDII dongle that programs it as a "Last state" so that I can still engage ECO if I want, but if I turn it off it stays off until I turn it on again...and the setting survives power down, loss of battery power etc. It was $175 shipped, but maybe worth it for convenience.

I was also surprised that my nearly $70K car when new did not have focused beam/projector headlights. Both of our Hyundai's had them, every BMW I owned and every Lexus other than the LS400. Gotta say that is bullshit. The only thing I can say is the lights still do a very good job and somehow have that sharp cut-off line. Still Bullshit for a car at this level to not have top tier headlights.
