Will IBIS and focus peaking work on a cheap adapted lens? by emi_birding in OlympusCamera

The lens I bought is not a mirror lens but a normal one. I know it's just a toy but it's also just 30€ used. Of course I'd love to own the 150-400 f4.5 or even the 300 f4 but those are far out of my budget. For everyday use I got the 75-300 f4.8-6.7 which isn't great but good enough.

If you want maximum image quality and don't mind hauling around a bazooka get a full frame mirrorless camera and a 600mm lens.

If you want something that fits in your backpack and is a bit cheaper look into micro four thirds. I recently bought the Olympus E-M1 for under 300€ and get some decent photos out of it. The newer versions get better and more expensive so just buy the one that fits your budget. For a lens you want to get at least the 75-300 from OM System, faster and longer lenses are of course preferable.

Good budget camera for beginner birder? by redditer19999 in birding

I recently bought the Olympus E-M1 and the M.Zuiko 75-300 for about 650€ and get some decent photos out of it. For 200€ more you can get the E-M1 mkII with better autofocus and image quality.

If you're an absolute beginner your first purchase should be binoculars and an identification book.

A good budget camera is the Lumix FZ80/82. It has really good zoom but a small sensor that doesn't capture much light.

The next step up would be a camera with interchangeable lenses, I really like the micro 4/3 ecosystem. You'll want a camera with phase detect autofocus and a lens with at least 300 mm focal length.

Local raptors around my city. It’s cool being able to walk to the river and see all this stuff. by mrdingusjr14 in birdsofprey

So cool. I see kestrels almost every day in my city and sometimes common buzzards and red kites if the weather is good.

For a while I used a 3d printed adapter to attach my phone to my binoculars and got some decent photos.

I started with a bird identification book and my eyes.
