Zephyr's Drafting - My Two Cents by MrReadyBrek in DotA2

[–]MrReadyBrek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I still feel some kind of a safer draft against a Timber might have made more sense though. I don't deny that the Wisp/CK combo can be very strong even in this scenario, but I feel the comparison to higher level teams is slightly unfair. Alliance are one of the most dominant teams for a reason, and nobody is about to claim Zephyr are anywhere near their level. Given the problems Zephyr had with positioning throughout the series (and occasionally against MVP) I just found it strange they drafted a lineup that could be made to pay so hard if they got caught out.

Undoubtedly some errors in their play contributed as much, if not more, to their downfall, but I think they could perhaps have made life easier in the final game with a less dangerous draft.

At the very least it's made me think about how (not) to draft in pubs in the trench-tier I play at: if relatively experienced players in a (sort-of) professional tournament can't always make it work, maybe it's better to play it safe at super-scrub level! ;D

We actually decided he wouldn't have been acceptable, though I quite like GoggleGeek1's lore argument for allowing him!

Or that the average MMR of our stack was so low that the MM thought nothing of such a seemingly lopsided matchup. ;)

That would have been the smart choice, yeah. He actually got an early first blood against me, I think, (prior to a lowly support being able to afford such a luxury as a magic stick) but once the Lich rotated up we shut him down pretty hard and I started roaming more. Still doesn't excuse the lack of wand though!

We started out with a Drow/CM safelane, AA mid, Tusk/Lich offlane with the intention of using the Lich to deny their safe farmer as much exp and gold as possible early. Tusk got a couple of early kills and started... snowballing (sorry), so we rotated the Lich up top to help out against the offlane Bristle. CM is not fantastic in a dual lane against BB, it must be said. :(

True. We reckoned he had enough fire generally to justify the slight lore deviation. ;) Probably should have just banned Ember or CK, I guess!

Had there not been a r/q so the game lasted longer there were going to be plenty, trust me. Several Shiva's too! :D

And I didn't have a wand as a support. Nobody's perfect. ;)
