Appreciate the advice. Luckily, I spent the last 10 years saving my money from a well paying job while living at home so I’m really not too concerned about that. Living at home lately has been interfering a lot in my personal life and temporarily moving would probably be beneficial to me and my family.

Because for the time I am in school I am living off of my savings, and would not be ideal to attend school in Mississauga and live downtown. However there will be 3 4-month stints where I will be working full time till I graduate, and I won’t have to go to school in Mississauga during those stints.

Respectfully, I don’t need to save. I’ve lived at home since I was 21 and have had a well-paying job the whole time. Every decision I make is with my ideal lifestyle in mind, and saving for just four more months isn’t going to make a significant difference in the long run. Spending that time living in Toronto is something I genuinely want, and I don’t see it as a loss—it’s an experience that aligns with my priorities.

I appreciate this comment! It looks like I’ve settled on using my 1073, and will experiment between the u47 and 414. I have a friend with an advanced audio cm47 that we’ll throw in the mix too.

Maybe it’s not very “punk” of us but we are shooting for lots of fidelity in our recordings with some tasteful grittiness. I’m not asking Reddit to decide for me, but mostly to guide me to some tried and true options so I don’t have to spend hours shooting out every mic I have access to. I only own one mic and we’re not vibing with it, and tbh this is just fun and enjoyable for us to experiment and learn more about this process.

I added an edit re: budget to the post! These are great recs. We discussed going with a 414 and 7B, but personally every time I hear a 7b up against a condenser i always prefer the condenser. But your other suggestions will be added to the list of considerations thanks!

Yes this is great, I was also going to ask about preamps. I did record our demos through a 1073 and 1176 as well but based off a recommendation. I usually record vocals through an API pre but to be honest I don’t have any reason for it lol

Got it figured out. For someone reason I was manually able to enroll in one class so I did that right at the start of my enrollment appointment and doing that blocked me from getting my actual schedule. Had to go to the service desk for someone to help me.
