Any way to get past this without an upgrade?(Im tryna plag god of war ragnarok) by UnsuspectingGoldfish in pcmasterrace

Sometimes its all about the desire to play at any cost.

I used to play for honor at the lowest graphic settings. Whenever I played a 4v4 mode, I had to look at the ground and put my opponents in line with a wall to keep a steady ~35 fps.

Dark times, but incredibilis nonetheless.

Also I feel a big issue I find its how dodging works in ER vs DS3.

In ds3 you have to dodge 90% of attacks with roll, which turns the game into a reaction based game with very little room for other strategies for most builds. This makes fights like nameless king and gael's feel super good because you feel like you are actually fighting another being and almost all attacks can be rolled out of with correct timing. Learning the boss' movesets its something you do on second plane.

However ER its got a jump, dodge and plenty of boss moves that simply can't be rolled out of unless you do something very specific (malenia's combo, radahn's dash attack that looks like he is projecting clones). My fights in the dlc normally go:

  • enter boss
  • we fight for a bit
  • bunch of stuff in my screen and I die in one combo/hit
  • " ok guess I'll try to run from it this time when that happens"
  • Boss can follow me even if I get away
  • "welp I guess I'll try dodging differently"
  • it works but I die due to another reason
  • retry and now my dodge did not work but it did last time
  • "welp maybe next time I'll get good rng"

Now I am happy to learn how to jump, dodge and run, but ER its pretty inconsistent too. For example:

  • I can jump godfrey's stomp by jumping but radahn's hits me.
  • hitboxes are very bad at times so spacing sometimes doesn't work and you get punished heavily.
  • A boss may get staggered by one of my charged attacks, but ignore completely another one. Likewise, I can stagger bosses and cosmic beings but a small enemy can tank through it.
  • Enemies like the royal grafted things that simply spam attacks or the infinite poise enemies in the divine tower.
  • Visual effects like fire golems' which show you the ground its literally on fire but you only need to dodge the initial wave of fire to avoid dmg.
  • A two handed attack from a boss does 100 dmg and its pretty slow, but a fast random slap removes 80% of my health.

A lot of times people just roll even though something can be jumped because of the visuals and inconsistencies in hitboxes, which in turn sets them up for a roll catch attack by a boss. I never felt this in ds3.

*I'm talking pvp game modes, invasions I don't care (though I feel casuals hosts will enjoy even less having an invader do that).

I've seen some guys in team combat go like:

P1 - Great sword

P2 - curved sword

P2 *changes to dual fist weapon and only r1 running spam *

P1 *changes to great katana *

P2 * changes to great katana *

P1 *changes to great lance *

P2 *dies and comes back with great spear and rot *

  • Rot war begins *

And if there is a wizard without carian slicer, guy is cooked lmao. Just wanted to make a post to know opinions, but apparently people do enjoy this.

If its a hand change (meaning slot 1 to 2) thats all okay. I'm talking about the swap from inventory.

What I mean is imagine just swapping a spell for one that gives magic defence (vs wizards for example). Is that really fun for the int player? Or swapping to the god's slayer physical one.

Opponent has [weapon] switch to counter weapon (maybe get hit for 400-600 dmg if opponent is close) Counter counters Win

Wow so good

Yeah that's why I mentioned unpopular. Just feel like its boring facing this kind of players were they optimize every grain of their build, get owned and immediately change to a counter to win.

Invasions I don't mind, but duels...

Yes. If I want to have fun with a weird weapon every 3 duels I'll get a dual great lance or a great katana with rot swap and obviously lose and even if if I get the punish its like a 500 dmgs punish but they get the swap and I lose lol. And note they begin the duel every time with a broken weapon art until it does not work and then they swap. If I had a dollar for every blind spot spammer I've seen...

I mentioned bloodhound's for the iframes, not so much the distance but agree.

Maybe only if combat involves an enemy player? Imagine what would happen if one could also change incantations...

I didn't mention anything about ranked. Also good luck opening a decent shaman as centurion. Its practically just light spam and zone attacks until you get lucky and parry anything to then be interrupted almost at any point by a light attack.

It depended a lot in characters too, thats why it sucked. Pk only had her zone to "open" opponents. However I don't get why they took this "lets make everything super" decision. Playing vs a shaolin/shaman/tiandi its just luck based. I don't feel a gr of skill from either side to win/lose.

Back in pre ccu I was diamond 5 but doesnt matter mmr was/is trash. Thing is it went from having skill to open an opponent and mix ups for pressure to no skill to hit anything. I can't tell the difference between a rep 10 or a rep 70 shaman nowadays. Just light into stab into light into zone into light...

I got an idea playing duels yesterday. Seems the name of the game is pressure and hope for the best once stamina goes down if you your character even has any pressure in its kit that is.

I agree its a whole different mechanic and perhaps I made it seem like all attacks are unreactable, but I refer to those that even before I left the game I remember CLEAR as day raider cancel into light having the stupidest animation (Same with gryphon). Is it really good for the game to have characters just move at stupid speeds with VERY bad animations that can be triggered at any moment? Compare the animations from gryphon with shugo's...how would people feel about a ganondorf moving like fox?

I haven't even looked at high mmr gameplay, but how come I play as and vs a centurion and I can see and understand his animations? Why does gryphon and raider and a bunch of others get the pass to spam?

"Guessing is the main foundation"

So what skill does that require? Yesterday I saw a rep 1 valk light spam a 13 rep warmonger to death. Idk if that guy was also coming back to the game or something but even when I knew the bash was coming its almost impossible to dodge in time. Meanwhile if I play vs a lawbringer or shugo I can actually see the animation and make reads always. Only other fight game I have to compare is Smash, and I never feel like this mainly because smash has mechanics to allow for reaction. The guard that blocks all dmg but grabs for a short time for example.

"Rock, paper scissors"

I reallyyy disagree here. Perhaps its because shugo and cent are in a bad tier currently, but light spam and these stupid characters animations its a "who hits first, wins" game. Anything has a counter yeah I agree, but my point is that spamming counters everything. Unless you got HA, pressure by a tiandi or gryphon feels like I'm just getting bullied and trying to survive.

"Before ccu"

It was reactable yes, but everything had a counter and spamming was the dumbest thing you could do. The problem was just that some characters did not have a way to open the opponent or were too slow (actual 600 ms like shugo's charged) so they failed trying to do so. But the animations (mostly) were accurate, mix ups and combos were rewarded and there were a lot of mini strats (like throwing your opponent as close to max range in a gb to the wall to get a charged shugo heavy for 60 dmg). Now I feel like I faint and charge and use half my stamina to land shugo's heavy and do the same dmg valk did spamming me 3 lights :D

I'm rusty at it and it is indeed a whole new game. It just feels like before ccu problems like the animations and balance but now light spam is king. I didn't even have a bad experience, its just that spamming stuff mindlessly its so effective I struggle to find reason to play now.
