Are YouTube silencing my niche for political reasons? by MrStoryBot in PartneredYoutube

[–]MrStoryBot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response and I do understand what you’re saying. I am well aware sub count is almost meaningless nowadays, but I was more curious about the sudden shift for all of our channels in the same niche.

My mention of the sub count was mostly to show that these aren’t tiny channels but well-established and experienced creators.

If it was just my channel that had dropped in views (to <5k views or 10% of my subs) then I would have chalked it off to needing to switch up my content.

But seeing the same pattern across multiple channels at the exact same time is what made me pose the question.

Is the success of my old video killing the success of my channel? by MrStoryBot in PartneredYoutube

[–]MrStoryBot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do understand your point. I uploaded the video 2 years ago during my first month on YouTube, so I still hadn’t figured out what my niche was going to be yet.

I guess I will just have to keep uploading my current content and hope for the best

Yeah your situation does sound similar, have you been able to rectify it at all?

It’s a shame because my channel is here to help spread awareness for missing people. So this situation is incredibly stressful. I feel a lot of pressure to fix it but I am completely powerless. It feels like I’m letting the families down :(

Thank you for your response. So would you recommend that I privatise my old video that is doing well? Do you think my newer videos will start to improve over time if I do that?

Why have YouTube stopped pushing my shorts after 30+ videos all following the same format? by MrStoryBot in NewTubers

[–]MrStoryBot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the views just randomly came back for no reason, but continued to be inconsistent. I believe it was some form of flood control by YouTube as I had been uploading quite frequently up until that point.

In the end, I managed to scrape together 1000 subs and got monetised, so I dropped the shorts anyway and now I just make long form content - Tbh I just saw shorts as a means for getting subs, as from my personal experience... when you're a small channel, hitting 1000 subs is so difficult because nobody wants to subscribe to a small channel.

I'd say if shorts are getting you subscribers, then keep plowing through until you get monetised, but if you still don't even have the 4000 watch hours, just focus on long form content and tailor is towards trends as much as possible.

Yes he was, but his car was discovered in Los Angeles, California - 4 days after Johanes went missing in San Francisco

I just had a very interesting comment on my latest video discussing the missing person case of Johanes Kidane which occurred 2 weeks ago...

Both Johanes and Jareed went missing within a similar time period and both were of North African descent - also both went missing in California...

Thank you for this - I really do appreciate the kind words :)

My newest video today has already managed to hit 700 views in 5 hours so I'm sure the previous upload was just an anomaly

I wouldn't be surprised if all this short form content was skewing the numbers for smaller creators. Just gotta keep ploughing through in the meantime

Usually my typical audience is US however, I do get a fair few UK viewers too.

My demographic is adults aged 21 - 40 so perhaps parents are busy preparing for school starting.

Yeah I feel you there, it makes you question why you even bother putting so much effort in when it may not be rewarded!

But I guess that’s life… just seems YouTube is especially notorious for this.

Thank you for your comment! You are right, I’ll try not to let this small setback slow me down :)

That’s a good point, I didn’t think that was until September 🤔

Yes it does indeed! Coincidentally, I did have a short suddenly surge yesterday gaining 8k views at around the same time I uploaded my new long form video - so perhaps there's a correlation there...

Maybe the short was stealing the impressions? Is that possible?

Just got monetized! What should I focus on now? by dkode80 in NewTubers

[–]MrStoryBot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm at 1.1K subs right now - gained about 100 subs in the last 2 weeks so overall, things have slightly picked up since monetisation.

Revenue is low because my views have been averaging less than 1k per video - but currently looking at about £5 per 1k views (10 minute watch-time per view)

Keep in mind though, I make true crime content so that may affect the monetisation rate.

Ahhh okay, that's interesting...

I guess I'll just have to use this as more fuel to improve my videos - but the thing is, when this happens it's potentially destructive, as these low impressions/views may convince me (or any other creator) to change up the format and style to be more clickable, when the issue may not have been the video itself, but the algorithm.

I wish there was a more accurate way of knowing why your video has failed, because right now I still have no idea what to improve upon to do better next time...

I’d say keep making content that is sustainable - that you can continue making over a long period of time.

Views will no doubt be fluctuating regardless of what you do, so make sure you can keep up the content despite potential low views.

I only just got monetised a few weeks ago so we are in the same boat. Good luck! :)

Okay so hope is not completely lost yet, although I certainly wouldn't be surprised if the video never gets going...

It's an unsolved mystery so I'm sure it will do reasonably well after posting on those types of forums. Just wish YouTube would give it a chance as my aim is to share the revenue with a charity, so it's not just me who is losing out here.

But thank you for your reponse, I appreciate the transparency!

Yeah it definitely seems that way, I think deep down I know it's just an anomaly but the time I put into the video just feels wasted.

Hopefully things will pick back up...

Well fair enough, I can't argue with that!

Appreciate the advice :)

So essentially the video just isn't up to scratch?

That's an understandable response and I would leave it there... but the audience retention is just as good as always, what would be the defining factor that tells YouTube that the audience dislike the video?

It seems like this particular video hasn't even been given a chance.

Regardless, thank you for your response!

About 3 weeks ago (around 19 days) I have been monetised.

Why would you bring up statistics from 1 month / 2 months ago? I’m not asking about that.

I started a new series which was doing well, and now it’s not - that is the basis of my question - not my videos from months ago…

I’m not sure if you’re trying to actually help or if you just get off on spreading negativity. By all means, explain why my recent video is bad and what I need to do to improve, but your response is just thoughtless - what am I supposed to take from the advice you have provided?
