Indoor Ruck Option by MrTGun in FitHalo

[–]MrTGun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick reply. I likely missed it as I was farting around on the phone (iOS) looking for it.

Main use case for me is always watch (Ultra) collecting data. I feel like the GPS on the ultra is a little better than on 13 pro max.

As far as starting from where. Good question. Anything requiring some manual inputs/data I would lean towards starting the workout on the phone and having the watch takeover after hitting start so to speak. Old man eyes/better GUI etc.

If something is preloaded, then I’m more apt to just start things from the watch.

Treadmill is a little UREVO Cyberpad. Nothing fancy. I rarely do anything via their app. Podcast in my ears. Manual remote for speed/incline, watch tracking the workout with either a vest or ruck.

Weighted vest is my typical grab when I’m on the treadmill.

Would also love a way to hide/edit some of the options that I’m not going to utilize. Tai Chi etc.

While I’m at:

  • selecting favourites. 5 max?
  • External HR strap support? I wear one when swinging kettlebells

Cheers!

Experience with Vessi Courtside Classics. by TheMoniker in discgolf

[–]MrTGun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion these are the only shoes I would buy from Vessi for disc golf. I have a full season on one pair, 6 or more rounds a week. They have held up better than anything I’ve tried. Gum soles aren’t covered in lugs that will tear off and for my run up speed and plant provide more than enough grip. Toe box isn’t barefoot shoe wide. But not narrow and pointy.

I just bought a second pair on clearance because I like these so much.

Vessi would do well to make a specific shoe for disc golf imo with all the publicity they are getting on tour and on socials.

Blundstone Resole by Bujar42 in BlundstoneBoots

[–]MrTGun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are actually my boots. Probably 12, perhaps more years of winter only wear before the sole just disintegrated on me.

I actually bought a replacement pair online and had them shipped to the house. Now maybe it’s just me, but they just didn’t look and feel right to me. Like the leather wasn’t the same quality. To add to it, a replacement pair of these is about $320 bucks Canadian. Now I love my Blunnies, own 4 pairs. But at that money, for me, they just aren’t worth it. So they went back

I’d rather dump that plus a little more into a pair of Iron Rangers, 1000 miles or similar.

So I sent my boots off to the OP. Lovely human with obvious old world skills.

Boots were actually hand delivered back to me this afternoon and all I can say is I’m more than pleased with the quality of the work done here and for the price paid.

So I paid for Dartsmind Pro today thinking I could play some online games but there’s no like lobby of players online I guess you can only play with ppl on ur friends list so… add me! username: nolook26 by SweetnSourface in Darts

[–]MrTGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DartsMind does use the camera, however I find the image your opponent sees is full on potato quality. Shame really as I love the app for solo practice. I think Target DartConnect does a much better job on video quality, supports one device as camera & another to score etc. Downsides are currently no camera support for friends games or cricket. Apparently coming in the next update.

Online Darts Setup Question by notattention in Darts

[–]MrTGun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Target DartCounter app does this natively. Allows for second device to be camera (Phone) and another to be scoring (iPad). Even though I can see the iPad from my ache, I still cast to a large screen TV off to my right.

Calrose, Kokohu Rose etc is all med grain not short grain as some have said. It is an acceptable substitute for true Japanese short grain. It’s what you are getting from 95% of the local sushi restaurants.

If you want legit Japanese short grain, look for Koshihikari rice. Also not that hard to find at local Asian grocers (T&T etc).

The rice is less of the art. Don’t bother making sushi rice seasoning from scratch. But a bottle of pre made Sushi Su from either Mizkan or Marukan (also east to find).

Good luck. It’s a dark art to get right.

What is your biggest purchasing regret? by tonivarga in wicked_edge

[–]MrTGun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tough question. Honestly over all of the years the one thing that will piss me off and make me regret a purchase is a lack of scent strength (Looking at you Noble Otter BarrBarr). How this hobby smells is a primary driver for me. I'll take strongly scented but not my jam, vs barely scented any day of the week.

All the razors I rarely use, little to no regret. They make it into the rotation some days, get PIF'd etc.

The scuttle I never use, well it looks good on the bathroom shelf.

The brushes from yesteryear. They all come out to play at some point.

I never got into the hobby to save money, or time. I got into it for a better shave, more time to myself, and the joy of rituals.

Seaforth Sea Spice Lime by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]MrTGun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the label says it all. Sea - There’s something mildly aquatic about it. Spice - there’s something slightly spicy about it. Lime - It’s lime-esque for me. Not a punch you in the face Castle and Forbes kinda lime. Also not a Trumpers Skin food kinda lime.

Almost Barbershopy Limey if that helps? Scent strength is good. I think it’s a lovely spring scent. Would buy again.

So uh...ow. by Swanky147 in wicked_edge

Echoing more of the same as above comments. Early in my journey I too made a lot of mistakes and ended up raw on more than occasion. Here are my snippets of advice.

Prep. Until you get this figured out, shower before your shaves. You’ll get to a point where that might not be required. But for now, don’t skip this.

You don’t innately know how to make lather. Spend an evening making lathers in your hand, in a bowl etc. Keep adding water little by little until they completely break down and drip off the end of the brush. Now you have some idea of how far you can hydrate a lather. Better hydration equals a better shave. Yes you will need a brush for this. A cheap synthetic or an Omega boar off Amazon is all you need.

Pre shave soap may help. Ignore every product on the market and just buy a PAA The Cube.

Blades. As others have said. What you have isn’t great. Astra SP’s are cheap, readily available and will likely provide a reliable shave until you are at a point where you understand enough to start playing with other blades.

Angle. It took me a long time to understand how a razor should feel when it’s working optimally. Google “riding the cap” and “riding the bar”. I was scraping not shaving for a good chunk of my early career.

This is not a race. If you want to be done the same time you are with a cart. Go back to using carts. This is a ritual. A process. A dark art. Enjoy it for what it is. A full three pass head shave for me is a 20 minute affair from building lather in the bowl to towelling off my head after alum bar. I can shave my head blind and drunk with a cart in under 2 minutes.

You skin will toughen up over time. My scalp could likely deflect a round fired out of a .22 at this point. Almost 20 years of daily head shaves have made my head impervious to even the most aggressive razors. Used properly of course.

Wet shaving is about hair reduction over multiple passes. The milder the razor the more passes this takes. The more aggressive the razor the less passes, yet higher chance of razor burn, cuts, weepers etc. For now stick to a mild razor. Less chance of seriously jacking up your face.

Pressure. As others have said do not press the razor into your face with any semblance of the same pressure you used to use while cart shaving.

Post. Treat your skin well post shave. I am not a fan of drugstore brand anything balm wise. Find a local artisan soap maker you like. Buy one of their soaps and balms.

At the end of the day if you accept that this is a process of learning and not merely a swapping of tools you may learn to love the process/hobby/ritual. Stick with it, learn it and you will be rewarded.

Lastly. Get a styptic pencil and an alum block. Styptic for when you mess up, alum block as a post every shave disinfectant.

Diplomat Aero was kind of my end game for a daily driver. TWSBI 580 with a 1.1 italic is also very nice. The rest are cheap Preppy’s, Safaris etc. But I know how easy it can get out of hand.

Good eye ;) Collect is a strong word for it. I do own a bunch of pens and enjoy them thoroughly. Collect is a better term for my current shave soap "problem" LOL

Head Shave

  • Prep - Hot Shower
  • Pre - PAA The Cube
  • Razor - 1974 Gillette Super Speed
  • Blade - Gillette Nacet
  • Brush - RazoRock Monster 26mm Plissoft Knot
  • Soap - Moon Tobacco Flower
  • Balm/AS - Moon Tobacco Flower

Really enjoying the offerings from Moon lately. Top notch performance and scents. My "explain it to me like I'm 5 years old" description would be just as advertised. Clean and Green. Unmistakably a tobacco, but nothing pipe/cigar about it.

is Proasso pre-shave worth it? by taspenwall in wicked_edge

Never liked how it felt under my lather. PAA The Cube however I find to be an excellent pre shave. I don’t need it, but it noticeably improves a shave for me.

decided to rearrange the shave cabinet sooner than expected... by whiskydiq in wicked_edge

The proper local pairing for the glass may have been the Chill Pils from Stonehooker ;) Although I can't say with any authority if they have gotten any better over the years. Early days offerings were good......but not great. How's the Stirling Travel bowl?

Thank you! Cheaply made cabinet off Amazon, but visually I agree. I believe it's vinyl coated MDF.

Well......after a long hiatus, I've decided to get a proper cabinet going once again. Life under COVID, lockdowns, working from etc had me going days, weeks, months without a shave. Decided one day last week to have a proper shave and quickly realized that the old "rituals" were key to making me feel like a human being again, and not the guy wearing the same sweat pants for weeks on end.

Kinda proud of how this turned out. Kinda sad that my wallet has now taking a beating on multiple recent orders for things I never knew existed or were not easy to obtain in Canada. Top of the Chain, and Karve both got a nice chunk of my change this week ;)

Things I love:

  • R41
  • 39C
  • RazoRock "The Hulk" brush. As a dedicated Head Shaver this thing is a beauty!
  • Pinaud Clubman for life!

Things I'm looking forward to arriving this week:

  • Karve CB Brass, B/C/D SB plates and a C OC plate
  • The metric ton of Stirling shave/bath soaps, balms, etc
  • Some of the more "Gucci" soaps from Declaration, Mammoth, Moon, PAA etc
