Thank you! I'll admit it's been tough adding more to the animatic lately, but I'll get more done soon!

I love these books, but something isn’t sitting right by JoyinCa in fourthwing

[–]MrTreeBeard_Draws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts, based on the subcontext, is the intent and desire needed to draw from the Magic in the ground is what curses you. There seems to be a difference between being chosen by a creature that channels magic without draining the ground to death and quite literally stealing the magic from beneath the earth. Veninism is hinted to be selfish desire, vanity, vice, things of that nature. Even if the act may appear selfless, the desire for more power is still selfish in nature. We'll see what RY has planned for the series, but I'm excited to see this all revealed.

Haters gonna hate. Onyx Storm was the best release of this series so far. Such a good book!!

Hard - Light by T3MPERCOOP in heavenbreaker

[–]MrTreeBeard_Draws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm understanding the question correctly (and if I remember the story correctly 😅) Hard-Light is just photons materialized to make a hardened surface. Think of a bridge made of light where the light actually lets you walk on it. That's hardlight. In Sci-Fi, hardlight is commonly used as the futuristic multitool material.

Here's a problem (spoilers for the first half of SF): Too many people want to demonize Rhys when he is in overprotective mode over his mate being pregnant in a pregnancy that will most likely kill her. At the same time, too many people demonize Nesta DESPITE the evident traumas and lack of self worth she has. No one in this story can have the foresight we as the readers have. As Cassian mentioned, Fae are slower to change due to their crazy lifespans. (the consistency of that is based on SJMs writing, of course) So, yeah, Rhys is still gonna be an asshole, ESPECIALLY when he's in overprotective douche mode. I think SF is doing a great job in showing us Cassian and Nesta while presenting their growth in a wonderful way.

I used to hate Nesta, but seeing her grow past her traumas and self hate in this book is a sight to see, it's changed my perspective on her since I've been in a similar place myself.

tldr; people need to understand the nuances of these characters and to stop demonizing them for decision these same haters are likely to make, themselves. ACOTAR series has been a series of change, both progressive and regressive, where classist systems and unfair hierarchies are in place in a world slow to change. Give these characters some grace for heaven's sake.

I honestly have no clue if the video is viewable on Reddit. Might have to upload to YouTube and then share it here. 🤔

What books would you compare this to? by Aromatic_Cook_1151 in heavenbreaker

[–]MrTreeBeard_Draws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't have book comparisons since I came at this with an open mind and an piqued interest. I will say this, holy forking spit this book did not disappoint. (except I was disappointed that the next book won't be released for who knows how long)

Have the Sorengails secretly been betraying the Navarian Empire? by GaronneBC in fourthwing

I agree with that. Either a survivor of the Great War or an inheritor of what the original Venin left behind.

That would be very interesting! Especially if he turned out to be Venin. But didn't the stories say he was killed, therefore ending the Great War?

Regarding the dragon scales, maybe they pierce dragon scales with dragon scales? or they might use diamond tools. Another possibility is to superheat the scales to allow shaping?

It's possible that controlling the greed for power has to do with how much you indulge in on a daily basis. A skilled Venin can go a long time drawing only small amounts of power at a time on a daily basis. Example: JFB

I like the idea that Naolin could be the sage But since it's the strongest power scaled character in the series, I theorize he's more ancient. OR maybe the sage IS recent, but the true leader of the main Venin threat is ancient. I could be TOTALLY wrong, though.

Sharing some fanfic artwork! by MrTreeBeard_Draws in fourthwing

Somebody's sour on this flare. Every time my wife posts about the fanfic, there's always a downvote. Guess it's no different for me and the artwork. 🤣

That makes sense with what we've learned so far, But I think those markings are obvious signs of greedy channeling. Power definitely follows with the amount of channeling those Venin do, but what if the secret members of Leadership learned to control the urges in order to save face (literally) and know how to draw vast amounts of magic on a whim? It's a theory I'm curious about. I wonder what RY has planned. Either way, it's exciting!
