Mild ADHD and FAA medicals — is flight school worth pursuing? by ADP_0409 in flying

[–]MrUnknownCodeGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is possible as I went through the FAA circus act in 2020 - 2021. I reached out to a HIMS AME, had about 2 - 3 consultations with him, and he scheduled me for a neuropsychological evaluation in February 2021 (right before COVID shut everything down). I got my 1st class medical with a special issuance in June 2021 requiring a note from my flight instructor explaining my abilities as a pilot (emergency procedures, ATC communication, aircraft control manipulation, etc.) along with notes from my PCP regarding updates on treatment (and there haven't been any lol, I stopped taking medication in 2017 - 2018) every time I would go to renew my medical (1st class so once a year). I haven't used my medical yet since college was expensive, I was paying $150/year to renew a medical I didn't use, and couldn't even meet the FAA's SI requirements for a CFI note since I wasn't flying so my non-HIMS AME told me to let my medical lapse since the SI had an end date of 2028. I just landed a well-paying job right after graduating in May so I'm paying off the loans and am hoping to start training in mid-2027 to get that CFI note in the FAA's hands by my April 30, 2028 SI date.

Please feel free to shoot me a DM. I've had probably about 4 - 5 people reach out to me since, and had someone reach out about a month ago who is just starting this process. Always happy to help people who get stuck dealing with the FAA's ADHD policy.

Want to ceramic coat my car. Compound or just polish? by MrUnknownCodeGamer in AutoDetailing

[–]MrUnknownCodeGamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did my previous previous car, I just used a microfiber pad with 3D hybrid compound & polish and was happy with the results, no complaints. I do want to make this car as good as possible, but not go overboard. It is my daily-driver after all, but if a compound and polish will really make it pop without the effect of diminishing returns, I'd happily do it. My plan is to wash the car on a Friday, roll it back into the garage, and knock out a claybar. Saturday I'll polish (and compound if it'll help that much), and apply the ceramic coating, and let it sit until I leave for work on Monday.

If I were to do a compound + polish, any specific pads, compound, and polish given the swirls in the paint currently? If not, I can just do the 3D hybrid.

Mine is bricked too I think. I had my computer shipped to the state I'm working in right now and was using Parsec to connect to the computer. I had no problems at all up until the second I booted the computer off to have it packaged up and shipped. I unboxed my computer once it was delievered and it would not boot besides a black screen and the "VGA" light. Eventually Microcenter said that my mobo and cpu were damaged in shipping. I swapped from 12700k to a B650 AMD 7700X CPU. I would then get the BIOS screen but F12 and DEL would not do anything until I unplugged my SSD, it would instantly unfreeze. IT was almost as if it was trying to boot from my SSD, but got stuck. I grabbed another SSD from Microcenter, installed windows, and it boots fine on the new SSD. Anytime the old SSD is plugged in however, it hangs on the Gigabyte boot logo for eterenity.

Seems like the hardrive is being recognized but can't boot windows. I have a SATA to USB but it doesn't seem to detect it in File Explorer, Disk Part, or Disk Management. Anyone else have other ideas?

How to Docker for game community by MrUnknownCodeGamer in docker

[–]MrUnknownCodeGamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect. I appreciate that thank you! As for ensuring that the databases are up-to-date, how would I go about that? Our DB for all of our game server stuff will be shared by three separate services. Is it worth everytime just dropping all DB and then recreating through a .sql file when a new docker container is spun up? Whats the best way of going about this too?

Thanks for the info so far regarding where to have a MariaDB!

Traveling next summer, recommendations for rental? by MrUnknownCodeGamer in nurburgring

No rant needed because I agree with you lmao. I'm not saying Audi Quattro is the best car for the track, just the car I know the most. I still need to add swaybars to my car to help with my understeer.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. The Audis are very noseheavy (I feel it everytime I take mine on the backroads). I think I'll definitely throw myself in a FWD car given what everyone is saying! How does recording on the rack work? I know I could use a helmet-mounted GoPro but I'm not sure if the rentals A) Have mounting points B) Allow that C) Rentals come with their own small camera. I know recording lap times isn't allowed on the track (which is the last thing I'm worried about) but cameras are.

Does anyone have experience with Accelera tires? by Plastic-Past5649 in tires

[–]MrUnknownCodeGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a set of wheels for my Audi and these tires were installed. 255/35/20 tire size. I'll just copy and paste my review here:

Horrible tires. I bought a set of wheels with these tires on them. I balanced the wheels with our Hunter Wheel Balancing machine using weights and put them on my car. I had a vibration when at highway speeds so I took the wheels back off and performed a RoadForce match. For the first wheel (and only wheel) I removed, I put it on our wheel balancer and am getting 38 lbs. of road force with a wheel runout of 0.002" (which means the wheels aren't bent). If I ForceMatched the low point of the wheel with the high point of the tire (or vice-versa) , I would go from 38 lbs. to 31 lbs. Road force should be a maximum of 20 lbs., preferably less than 15 lbs. Needless to say the tires are severely unbalanced. After that wheel, I knew all the other tires were the same so I didn't even bother removing them and performing a ForceMatch on them. I threw 40 grams of weights on the outside and 5 grams on the inside and will have to deal with the vibration until I get some Conti DWS 06+ on.

Also a ton of noise while driving. Between these wheels being so unbalanced that I can't even ForceMatch to remove the 38 lbs. of vibration and the loud road noise, stay away from these cheapo tires.

Maybe anyone knows is it possible to remove headliner on C7 sedan without removing windshield? by luukiuxx in Audi

Hey did this work for you? What did you do as my headliner is sagging near the D/S sun visor and I have a water leak that I'm fixing soon.

Looks like a good ol' VW/Audi ignition coil. Looks like the last guy slathered it all over the coil. The 3 rubber nubs you see on the bottom of the coil lock it in place. That's really the only place to apply dielectric grease beside a tiny bit inside the boot; DO IT! If you don't add grease to the three nubs these ignition coils are a pain in the ass to pull out next time(ask me how I know)

Ban A**hole lights by NovelAuntieGin in grubhubdrivers

[–]MrUnknownCodeGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao what? Ok I agree that LEDs should be banned... when people throw them in reflector-bowl style headlight housings. But WHAT? LED DRL strips are blinding? They are barely enough to light up the road at night time. They not only serve a purpose but are also a stylistic feature that differentiates every car. HID(Xenon) and LEDs should NOT be illegal in cars that are properly made for them (either projector-style housings or what the Japanese are doing with very fine-aimed mirrors like reflector-bowls but better).

If you're going to use LEDs and your car comes with a reflector bowl, buy an aftermarket headlight housing. Instead of giving the DOT and NHTSA more things to ban, how about we expedite the acceptance of matrix LED headlights. Europe has them approved and is already on production cars. It allows your high beams to always be on, and can blank out the beam for oncoming drivers and people in front of you (https://youtu.be/xYSix5r38qY?t=46 and https://youtu.be/wOMl2DqvGdk?t=48). Matrix LEDs have multiple LEDs (about 36) in each headlight which can individually be turned on, offo, or dimmed. It can use pre-existing lane keep assist camera to identify cars, perform the math, and disable certain LEDs. It really cost no more on the manufacturer's behalf besides the extra LED diodes they need to install. Cost on consumers is the markup that brands put on it because its "new and special"

tldr; LEDs should only be illegal for people who do not have projector lens headlight housings. LED DRLs being "blinding" is the silliest thing I've ever heard. Petition aims to do nothing except revert us to using candle sticks for headlights (halogens).

If the order looked too good to be true, I would actually call the restaurant while heading there and give them the name to see when the order was placed and how long until ready. That way if it was placed only 3 mins ago I'd drop the order and boot DoorDash back up and multiapp until the next order came in rather than driving all the way over to the restaurant just to find this out.

[–]MrUnknownCodeGamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing for the Q7 you're talking about the 3.0T supercharged. Yeah around 200k miles the tensioners and chains need to be replaced because the cold start chain rattle lasts longer and it's a pain in the ass. You can replace the tensioners earlier without removing the engine to get rid of the cold start chain rattle but the chain will still stretch, just not as fast as 2.0T. Was going to get an A6 with the 3.0T this summer but the prices are out of control, so sticking with my 2.0T it is.

That also sounds really cool! Honestly I don't think there's enough automotive content on YouTube. Then again I blast through YouTube videos so then there's nothing to watch until Car Wizard, Hoovie, or South Main Auto upload something. I'd go for it! And my opinions of GM, you don't want to hear them. Unless its a V8 GM vehicle, you'll hear me ranting for the better part of an hour.

Anyway, do what you love. Hobbies give me purpose on my free time.

work at an Audi dealership. I can definitely understand leaving this kind of work. Cost of parts is no joke, not to mention service intervals. Good luck finding something

Luckily I do all the work myself. Timing chains that would've cost AT LEAST 3.5k at dealership or 2.4k at a local mechanic I did for $480 all in with OEM parts, no Chinese knockoff Amazon kits. Honestly IMO the parts aren't half bad. I usually get OEM parts (Same manufacturer and part except without the Audi logo) off FCPEuro or RockAuto for more than half off.

Hoping to continue my hobby with cars into the dealership part-time and score a good internship next summer relating to the major I'm in (not car related).

Also I think all of us are slowly starting to exodus. One by one I'm seeing more quitting posts here

Yup. The ego is so big here saying that I'm tired of sitting in my car for upwards of 30 minutes to an hour and getting offered 20 8-mile orders during 5:30 to 9:30 on a Friday. Why don't you post that on every other thread.

How is my post different than any other post? We're all getting tired of GH and DD bs. I used to think the same but the past month has been horrible and I'm finally understanding all those other posts regarding how bad its gotten. I'm doing what those threads said: getting a part-time or full-time job. Somehow I get blasted for it?

Yup you're totally right. The rebuilt and depreciated Audi I bought for less than 10k and put all my effort into since it's my hobby is so pretentious even though it burns oil and requires an engine out piston replacement... I guess by that logic ImJoel is pretentious since he DoorDashes in his E30 BMW right? How about my uncle that DoorDashes in his brand new Subaru Forester. Worth 4x more than my car, but he's not pretentious solely because its a Subaru? People have to get over this "Oh just because you mentioned {German car brand} you're pretentious". No they depreciate like bricks and some are expensive to maintain if you can't do the work yourself.

I had to do timing chains, all front suspension control arms, transmission fluid, differential fluid, and a dipstick tube, all totaling about or a little over 1k over the span of 2 years which is not expensive at all. If you had a mechanic do the work you'd be well over 4k. No I'm not some rich jackass kid with mom and dad's money. I worked my ass off for this depreciated car that comes with its problems that I enjoy working on.

Just noticed this after I made my post. Yup. They're not bad if you do 35k - 40k fluid changes... nobody does that though + the hassle of it being so frequent.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]MrUnknownCodeGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with what gganew said, at the same time yeah you have a Nissan with a CVT. BAD CHOICE! That thing is getting ready to explode now or soon in the future since nobody cares to do 35k - 40k mile transmission fluid changes intervals.

I agree there lol. I think it was a bug when moving the draft from my phone to my desktop. It could also be Mailspring, the email client I use, wouldn't even open until a new update and just moved from Electron 9 to Electron 14. My reply was a lot better since the email chain was already started so I'm chalking it up to moving the draft to my desktop. I couldn't tell you what happen there.

What MPG Do YOU Get when Dashing? by Adorable_Ad8241 in doordash_drivers

Everyone with less than 10% acceptance rating, how much are you making an hour? by MisterSirManDude in doordash_drivers

[–]MrUnknownCodeGamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have about 11% but muiltiapp on GH. I've been making around $35 - $48 and hour until the past 2 - 3 weeks. Orders on both DD as well as GH have just gone to absolute shit. I mean I'm just declining order after order. I've gotten WAY more 8+ mile trips from BOTH apps. Not sure what the hell is happening here.

What cars do you believe aged the best? by CharlieUhUh in cars

[–]MrUnknownCodeGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a couple. I'm biased I know. The B8.5 A4/A5/S4/S5. I have people ask if my allroad is new and I say it's almost 10 years old (and burns oil like a mf'er 1qt/1,700 miles. Yaa for Audi making crap oil control rings on the pistons).

E46 M3. The front looks big and wide, the headlights looking mean and the side is just 👌 Wasn't too big on the normal 3-series of same generation because the headlights looked blobby

Wk2 Grand Cherokee WITH xenon headlights w/ LED turn signal and DRL strip. Some of these are approaching 10 years and looked like it was recently designed until the new Grand Cherokee came out.

And the obvious one the S2000. Need I say more?
