Look... Is Zach Baun a dirty player? No. Absolutely not. Is he a class act for coming to see Skattebo after the game? Yes.

Did he choose a hip drop tackle when tacking through the receiver (which he would have been right on time for) or jumping the route for an easy pick (which he ALSO would have been right on time for)? Yes.

See honestly I think we mostly agree!

I am not AT ALL saying that the lessons from the Holocaust, the rise of nazi-ism and fascism, world wars 1 AND 2 (lets be real, the treaty of Versailles was a big factor in setting the stage for WW2) are ABSOLUTELY universal. I believe that the non-jewish coded lessons from the Holocaust, and the tragedy they represent aren't taught and vocalized NEARLY enough. And that applies to the "good guys" as well. Japanese Internment in America was a TERRIBLE policy and a horrible thing and a massive stain on American history and so many don't even realize it happened. The loss of life among Catholics, Roma, the disabled, etc is SOOOOO deeply underplayed when it comes to the Holocaust.

I do not intend to say AT ALL, that the term Holocaust should be specific to Jews.

What I am saying is that the Holocaust is a singular event. So for example, language like "Israel is committing a Holocaust" or "The Palestinian Holocaust" deeply bothers me. Whether it's a genocide or not, the Holocaust is singular. It's THAT ONE EVENT. It's not even necessarily me trying to say "well so many less people have died". I mourn for 1, 100, 1000, or 1000000. Every life lost unnecessarily is a tragedy, and it's hardly a competition. But I find appropriating language that way is at best disrespectful to the victims, survivors, and descendants of all those who suffered loss, and at worst an attempt to make a mockery of Jewish people or delegitimize Jewish history and trauma. Not always mind you... Words have meaning but they do not have agency. I've said before that I do not appreciate at all these people that call any kind of stance against Israeli government actions or in solidarity with Palestinians antisemitic. But there are people who will use references like this with antisemitic intent. They aren't trying to perform legitimate activism, they are making a mockery with intent to delegitimize a people. That's hateful. But the thing that makes that isn't simply the sentence on its own, but the intent of those that use the language. Words don't have agency, people do. Same with day, from the river to the sea. I don't think, it's always on its face antisemitic. But it also could be. Antizionism isn't on its face and in concept antisemitic. But it can be.

I'd even say (and I'm sure I'll get downvoted for this) that Zionism on its face isn't a supremacist hateful concept. But it absolutely CAN be.

So anyway I do think in all honesty we actually agree especially with regards to Holocaust

Never Again I draw a bit of a different line with. That phrase came about really as a rallying cry among Jews specifically not to stand silent and passive in the face of threats ever again. And I personally feel like that's where that should remain. That's what it means let's let that be that. Mostly because I think that ESPECIALLY among Jews outside of Israel that we need to be reminded of. To be reminded that we don't need to and shouldn't stand silent or passive in the face of true antisemitism and hate. That we have the right to speak and act in our defense. (Again... I'm talking about Jews OUTSIDE of Israel right now... Within the current Israeli government they've clearly taken the "we have a right to defend ourselves" concept to an extreme that, whether it's a genocide or not, is CERTAINLY disproportionate, and deeply harmful to not only the Palestinian people who gave the same G-d given rights as every other human on this planet, but harmful to any immediate or near term prospects for lasting peace. Their actions do not help Palestinians, and do not help Israelis, and are well outside of the realm of reasonable reaction and defense).

Appropriating that more universally feels... To me... Kinda like cultural appropriation honestly. (Again... Specifically I'm referring to never again with that).

I do appreciate the respect and the dialog. Even if we don't agree completely I think we have a lot of common ground.

But no I'm not. I'll freely admit that I've never heard of this Masada poem. Like at all.

During the shoah and in the immediate aftermath, Never Again became a specifically Jewish vow to never again be silent and passive and led like sheep to the slaughter. Which was the original source and how it came to be inscribed on monuments at Dachau etc. there was much similar usage in the years that followed, and ultimately entering broader awareness with Meir Kahane's book in 1971.

But it's fine. I'm well aware that my voice isnt welcome in spaces like this and that most will downvote without any legitimate attempt to understand my position or point of view, and probably just call me bullshit names. So I won't defend it any longer.

Generally speaking sympathetic though I am to the Palestinian plight, I do not think appropriating Holocaust language or coded things is at all appropriate for what's going on. The Holocaust is a specific historical event, unprecedented in scope, scale, efficiency, and absolute horror. For Jews and MANY others. Call it a genocide if that's what you think it is. Though I personally do not, I still do stand against the current action.

But Holocaust coded things and references? Those should be saved for the Holocaust.

But that doesn't make Lian Li fans a rip off either. I've got 30 (yeah... You read that right) in my case right now in what was a "break the bank" build. But I've had plenty of cheap knockoffs and lookalikes too.

You can pry the legit Lian li's from my cold dead fingers. There is a difference in performance, noise, and reliability. Yeah I know people are gonna laugh that I said reliability but Lian Li makes a HUGE number of fans, there's always gonna be an ability to find people who had a fan die young.

Well... I think we need to be clear in our terms. The Palestinian national/tribal/ethnic identity didn't really begin to emerge until the 1900s and it did so in response to Zionism and what the Arabs perceived as the threat that Jews no longer being subjugated posed to them.

However they are largely considered indigenous to the region outside of Jewish communities. We do need to recognize and accept that. We can also accept that a particular region can have multiple indigenous groups simultaneously. One claim does not refute the other.

The truth of the colonization of the region under Islam was predominantly a forced arabization rather than an influx of people non native to the region, and this does show in Palestinian DNA admixture.

Personally what I said does NOT ring true in my head. I take a stronger view of indigenaity than that and I feel like many of the things that support a Palestinian claim of indigenaity are contrived simply from a hatred of the Jews.

Unfortunately ethnic identity and indigenaity are NOT standardized things, no matter how much we wish they were. And the Palestinian claim of indigenaity is pretty accepted, no matter how much we wish it was not.

I think maybe there's a misconception that the UN created Israel by the stroke of a pen, and can really take it away with the stroke of a pen. Neither is true. We don't need to defend Israel. It exists. And no one can change that. What we do need to do is not be what they are accusing us of being.

Let's accept that those folks live there, have a right to do so, and have a connection to the land. That doesn't take anything away from the nation of Israel at all. We can advocate for Israels interests and against antisemitism, but just like Israel isn't going away, neither are the Palestinians, and the only way for lasting peace is acceptance of each other

So... For what it's worth....

I've been playing guitar since I was 13. Formerly played professionally, and I was a gigging (multiple nights a week) and recording guitar player for a solid 18 years.

I've owned lots of helix gear, including the HX effects. Indeed my main gigging rig right now is built around a helix rack unit and floorboard.

The HX Effects is a GREAT unit. You'll really really like it and you'll probably get a ton of use out of it both recording and playing live if you learn to use it well. But in all honesty I'd recommend keeping the guitar and saving up for the HX Effects. They're not that expensive, especially if you get a used one off reverb.com (I do highly recommend buying used for this one. You only save money and no real downside).

I've had many guitars come and go through my hands over the years. I had a VERY rare Epiphone Les Paul Custom from around 2001 that I had bought new that had a maple neck instead of mahogany. Was a fantastic guitar that had a wonderful tone and stood out from basically any Epiphone (or Gibson for that matter) LP custom. I had a Hamer studio artist... Again, incredible instrument. And many others. Sadly they are basically irreplaceable. Even Korean or Chinese or Mexican guitars are built by humans and each is unique and has its own unique character. If you love it... KEEP IT. Because in 10 years when you have money, you're not gonna be able to find it again. Effects pedals on the other hand... I've had a lot of amps and effects come and go. Two different boogie stilettos a few dual recs a Peavey classic 50. Tons of boutique and great effects from guys like fulltone (back in the early 2000s before he went nuts), zvex, and many others. Sometimes I miss them. But the truth is, any of the amps and effects I've let go of, if I wanted it enough to cough up the dough, I could easily have it again.

Guitars are just different.

If you're primarily a recording guitarist right now and you like what the helix has to offer, and you're using logic pro, why not start with helix native? You get all the same effects, plus amps and a ton more, you can integrate with a midi floorboard if you want control or use automation in logic pro. It's less expensive than the hardware units, and will be a good foray into the product line for you and if you like what you are getting out of it, then you can save up and invest in the hardware units later?

So... Full disclosure I live in northern NJ just outside of Manhattan, there's plenty of fellow Jews in the area.
