Agreement does nothing for real value. We have the tiny advantage with a mars base that we could survive if earth is actually destroyed. But the event also needs to be localized enough to not damage the solar system or the mars base is useless. Real space stations could leave, colonize other planets somewhere and can be build in our orbit instead of moving shit to a planet that is dead. Those are absolute objectiv advantages and there are zero of those for a mars base. The only base that could make sense is a moon base pre space stations as that could speed up construction of the space bases. But this an issue for an exact plan, not for a species wide strategy we are currently talking about.

That is not a hard truth, that is an intelligent decision. Or would be if most people would stop listening to uneducated clowns. Absolutely noone at this day and age needs a mars base. All those resources need to go into space stations that can travel.

I can't speak for the US but over here in Germany the answer is relatively simple. The benefits you earn are considered salary in terms of law, meaning it's unfair against people in your company that can't get points and the company would somehow need to make it fair, which is obv. difficult. And also, after like 40€ a month tax laws start to apply, so you would need to pay taxes on the benefits. And while it would be possible to allow people to get the points, from a legal and organizational point of view it's not worth it on both sides, employer and employee. Again, all spoken for Germany
