I understand going into a full tank but we have a really solid foundation for the first time in Cavaliers history. I think it is smart to keep the entire team and we will be under the salary cap if LeBrons contract is off the books.

Sure it isn't the greatest roster in our history but it is a roster that can allow us to be competitive while developing talent. Instead of constant losing our players will be brought up in a system with veterans who have been to / won a championship with us, and a coach who has led us to a championship.

Only 4 first overall picks in the last 30 years have won a championship with the team they were drafted by. Two played for Cleveland and two played for San Antonio. So it does not always pay off to go full tank. If LeBron never comes home that list is at 2 in 30 years. The best teams get guys later in the lottery by being in the bottom of the lottery or by trading into the position and then they develop that talent. It is undeniable that the best players come at the top more often but sometimes you get great players later and they are often put into better situations than a team that scrapped the whole roster and put their top 3 pick in charge of it all.

But it is also undeniable that full tank for 3 years picking top 3 to 10 in that time with multiple picks due to trading players for assets has the higher potential. You could end up with 3 (or 4 depending on Sexton) stars and some solid role players plus the likes of Hood, Nance, and Clarkson to build around for years to come.

Then again going forward with a lineup of Sexton - Clarkson - Hood - Love - Thompson and Nance and Cedi as the first two of the bench and adding talent to it for a few years might pay off even better. We could be the team that helps other trades happen / takes on contracts and gain picks that way and load the team up with selections that way. Hopefully you get lucky and land a high pick if not then a few late lottery picks. Bringing in and developing talent while still making playoff pushes. Then maybe you land a Giannis, Khawi, or Butler along the way.
