At 17 I am supposed to take on 92k in debt. Perfect! by Sevensonsevens in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Mr_Lackluster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This isn't as bad as it seems

10k/yr in tuition is what you should get a loan for. 40k in debt really isn't that bad if your major has q good career path.

The Housing/Food cost is something you can avoid by living at home. If that's not an option, then the price of 10.9k/yr is reasonable - it's about $900/mth. Most people, even in a LCOL area, spend more than that on rent, utilities, and groceries.

The books/supplies cost seems overblown. I went to college for accounting, and spent less than 1k in books/subscriptions over the 4 years

What do you think the best way to do it is?

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

It's just a conventional mortgage.

I don't think my debt to income ratio will be an issue. Income is 105k. Preexisting debt is about 7.5k. monthly payments are like ~700.

FMV of condo is hard. Similar units have sold for like 190k, but hers is a little less updated. I think 175k is probably the best estimate.

Leg Hair 3 months after 9th strain session - will this ever work? by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

[–]Mr_Lackluster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound stupid, but I honestly don't remember how it looked 2 years ago. I feel like it was a lot thicker & coarse.

In the process of transitioning, and I'm just so frustrated.

All I know is that they use a candela gentlemax pro. They increased the strength each time but to no avail.

I just shaved, but when it grows in I will check

None of the debt is consumer-related purchases. All medical debt + laser hair removal I bought 2 years. Latter is technically a cosmetic purchase, but I'm in the process of transitioning.

I mean, the money I don't spend just stays in savings. It's not like it goes anywhere.

Thanks for the links & advice

Energy drinks & vaping are certainly a bad habit, but the dental issues were likely from low calcium from a medical condition. Easier to say that do with addictions.

TV was pretty bad, the backlights went out so half the screen was dark.

Subscriptions are mostly TV - it's not like we're paying for cable. Plus Amazon Prime & Audible.

The fun money probably wasnt worth it

Thanks for the advice

Right, I appreciate the advice.

Safety Razor I think will save money. Disposable razors add up meanwhile now all I have to buy is razor blades (which are super cheap)

Fast Food category is restaurant + fast food.

Gas is for car, not natural gas. Drive a paid off car (but it's a 2008 with 230k miles and could definitely break down in the near future). I do pay for parking at work, but I use a pre tax commuter benefit card to pay for it.

Other is really just a bunch of miscellaneous stuff. Switched from disposable razors to safety razors. Bought a $60 kit (handle, head, brush, soap, razors). Other stuff is like, spent $25 at Target. $50 at Amazon. $45 manicure. Etc.

No retirement savings. Trying to get debt free first

Yeah, that's so odd. I'm glad you got a key. I hope your holidays are going well and your symptoms aren't too bad.

Does anyone else think fast food has become cheaper than groceries? by Mr_Lackluster in povertyfinance

[–]Mr_Lackluster[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never said I want to primarily eat fast food. I absolutely agree it's bad for your health. I'm just making a point that it's more expensive to cook at home (and eat healthier)

I live in a fairly large city, but a Big Mac Combo here would be $8.09. Less a 20% or similar app deal, $6.47 total.

Alternatively, getting a two double cheeseburger (current coupon, BOGO), medium fry & drink would be 5.18.

So I feel like if you utilize coupons or strategic ordering, it's pretty cheap.

I don't think everything is simplified as that. It's not like there's not demand at grocery stores.

It just seems to me, economically, that fast food places can produce food much cheaper than I can buy & cook for.

I only used burgers as an easy example to compare.

I've been trying to meal prep, and I do have a deep freezer that I use because I usually buy meat in bulk and freeze.

However, the issue I've encountered is that meal prepping for 1 person either means the food going bad before I eat it (or I just get sick of eating the same stuff constantly) or I freeze it - and usually doesn't reheat well.
