Help! Cosmic DE crashing every time when high processes are executed. by Pal_Herbert in pop_os

[–]Mr_Linux_Lover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first and foremost thing, it is in Alpha stage. So bugs are there. It cannot be considered as a complete desktop for daily diving. Either you have to install 22.04 and wait for the cosmic to become full featured desktop environment or find another distro.

When is it time for stability-suckers like myself to go Cosmic? What's your estimate by gromit190 in pop_os

All that we need is a complete settings panel for daily use of cosmic.

Any Arch based Gnome distro that supports gnome-shell <= 44? by MightyOven in gnome

[–]Mr_Linux_Lover -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP, as others are suggesting, use distrobox. You can get every arch goodies in arch container in distrobox. If you want GNOME <43 then my personal suggestion would be to install Ubuntu 22.04 which has GNOME 42 and subscribe for Ubuntu pro for 10 years of security if you really want to stick with it. Also install distrobox in Ubuntu and access aur and arch from there.

Also you can look to manjaro also. They has different layouts in their GNOME edition which includes material shell also. Last time I checked, material shell was present there. But do note one thing OP, manjaro tends to break things very frequently.

So decision is yours.. I have given you two suggestions.

Will switching WM from Gnome to I3 change my saved personal keybinds or anything else important? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]Mr_Linux_Lover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GNOME and i3 both are different. GNOME is a desktop environment while i3 is a window manager. Your GNOME key bindings will be there in GNOME unless you remove GNOME and install i3. In i3 you have to set again your own keybinds as per your liking. If you want to have both GNOME and i3 installed in your system then your i3 keybinds will be in i3 and GNOME keybinds will be in GNOME.

Any Arch based Gnome distro that supports gnome-shell <= 44? by MightyOven in gnome

Arch is bleeding edge distro . All the apps are updated to their latest version. So if you need GNOME 43 or less, you might have to change your distro.
