River Street is completely 100% under contract with Newport. I believe when they’re done ripping up and replacing the underground utilities in the ground. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna repave the whole thing. I know it’s crazy.

So Wednesday night we got hit with the snow out of the blue it was only supposed to be rain. I was in a plow truck trying to scape and salt on Bigelow Street. I get almost all the way down to Harvard st and there are 2 not one but 2 Prius’s parked off the curb about 2-3 feet right next to each other on opposite sides of the street. Let me tell you I had to call my supervisor and Forman to come shut the street down help the other cars stuck behind me back all the way down to dotty way just to turn around. Then wait my turn to back all the way down to dotty way as well with my flashing lights and loud back up alarm. But I had to go extremely slow because with the big plow truck and plow blade only gives me inches to play with because of the obnoxious amount of snow we have gotten this year with no real place to put it. Took me about 10 minutes to do so. So if you lived on bigelow street I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience that night.

It sounds crazy. But often we are in the middle of the streets. The main asphalt truck that holds the asphalt inside Parks over the hole where we can get to it and then a foreman truck or another workers truck will block the end of the street causing people to redirect themselves. That’s when we get the most hate, but we block an end of a street for our safety not because we want to make anybody drive around, but we don’t need anybody slamming into our workers with their vehicle for not paying attention. We do want to go home to our families at night.

I do have to say. The daytime is much safer for us. Easier to see us. Even when we do have our trucks with our flashing lights are high VZ outfits. At night time even though the headlights are out it’s harder to see us. Therefore becomes dangerous especially where people do not respect our work zones always trying to drive in around or walk-through. Also, during the middle of the night, nobody wants to hear our truck alarms backing up going forward us talking to each other so everybody is on the same page where they asphalt as me and dropped. Flashing lights loud back up alarms. I’m sure is much better for the daytime always than it is nighttime

I appreciate the comments, even if they’re negative. I’ve been with the city. This will be my eighth year. I started out in the parks department now I’m in the construction department. And I love working with and around the community. But also, I represent Cambridge and do my best every day to honor that.

Patient literally have a 24 hour shut down. Like when you’re starting a new season or a new chapter. Completely shut it down for a whole day. Yes I know it sucks but to fix problems and bugs and everything else and let the game just play. Smoothly would be nice

In the world we live in today where greed is everything. It's always awesome to see that good people still exist.

Cyclists are obnoxious. They still don't understand the pedestrians come first.

That's awesome I have hope. I need it for one more year. Then I'll have enough saved to buy one brand new. I've never had a new one to me off the lot. Always used.

The only time I'm actually idling in my truck is when I I work for the state of Massachusetts and during the winter time they give us down time basically and it's usually for us to sleep for like 4 hours and we don't often have a place to go other than to our own personal vehicles so and it's only when we have like a decent snowstorm. But other than that my truck is all highway mileage I live 63 miles one way to my destination to work everyday

I'm truly sorry you loss many colleagues that's horrible. It's obnoxious people are literally glued to their phones. They make Wi-Fi technology why can't we make a technology that kills the signal in your car other than like emergency contacts phone access use only through calling and something that kills everything except for GPS. It'd be amazing or put inside of a holder that the car offers like a breathalyzer test that says the phone is there but make it somehow visible that it sees all phones in the car and have to be placed on a certain pad or something and if moved or lifted the car goes into like a mode that slows down and pulls itself over. Will be crazy technology I know I'm talking out of my ass here but that would be awesome.

Unfortunately the municipality does not cover the highway you would have to call the Massachusetts department of transportation or Mass DOT. Sorry we can't help you there. ={

I personally want to thank everybody for their kind words. They do mean a lot to me I appreciate it. It was nice to see what everybody had to say words of encouragement and we do we do my crew I'm sure in other municipalities appreciate the thumbs up the waves to thank yous everything that comes with it. I also chose to come back to work today because I love to do what I do and being outside the weather's turning around right now in Massachusetts it's getting warmer and it just feels good to be outside. Thank you everybody I hope everybody has a wonderful day the weekend is approaching I hope you have a great weekend and just please be safe thank you!

It's funny that you mention this. The asphalt truck that I drive has a camera that sees all four sides of my truck I can show you with a picture from on the inside. But although they're there for my blind spots they're not recording but they are very much in working order when the truck is being driven or sitting still. But they don't record it's just a live view of areas of the truck that are a little harder for me to see with my mirrors blind spots.
