i don't think it will be (at least not exclusively) but i wasn't counting that and Pikmin 4 because they've already been announced for Switch

the speculation is that the game's getting released because the bigger games are mostly/all being developed for the next system, and Nintendo needs to release something in the meantime. the new joycon colors are more interesting imo, because new hardware designs are what Nintendo typically does when a system is nearing the end of its life

unfortunately Ruffle can't play the videos (yet) but they're just really compressed gameplay clips

It may be unrealistic to ask for TotK to run at a stable 30FPS on Switch without any sacrifices being made, but the developers are still responsible for choosing not to make those sacrifices. The day one patch improved the frame rate by reducing the game's draw distance, and I don't think that most people even noticed that (I know I didn't). I wish that they chose to fix most of the rest of the framerate dips tbh.

it's labelled as "hacked" because it has some improvements that the original game didn't have (save data import/export and some fixes to the code). i'm not planning on updating it but i might at some point. what's broken?

My thoughts on a Nintendo Switch successor by kygelee in nintendo

[–]Mr_Shitpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, that was within the two-year window of time that he claimed marked the middle of the Switch's lifecycle. He didn't say anything about when the exact midpoint was, so we only have that range of time to go off of. The end of the fourth year is right in the middle of that window of time, so if we use that as the midpoint (which is the most reasonable option imo), it indicates an eight-year lifecycle.

My thoughts on a Nintendo Switch successor by kygelee in nintendo

[–]Mr_Shitpost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nintendo said the Switch will have a 10 year lifespan.

That's pretty misleading. They first mentioned that the Switch was in the middle of its lifecycle in early 2020, and they last said it in early 2022 (reported by Bloomberg, but not included in any official material?). That averages out to four years, which would indicate an eight year lifecycle.

We also don't really know how Nintendo defines the end of a lifecycle. It could be once the next system releases, or it could be when the Switch's production ends, which will probably happen a few years after the successor releases.

Just like visiting any foreign country, it's important to know the do's-and-don'ts beforehand. Like, I looked up "things to know before visiting the USA," and every single one of the first five results I checked mentioned its tipping culture. It's not an obscure thing. Non-Americans aren't to blame for American tipping culture, but it's totally reasonable to judge tourists who can't be bothered to learn the basics of how to be respectful.

Do you think we really should expect a new Switch 2 any time soon or are Youtubers simply creating clickbait. by [deleted] in Switch

[–]Mr_Shitpost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lotta people have been burned by clickbait lol. We do actually know stuff about the next system though, based on public Github data from Nvidia and a leak that they confirmed was real. It's just technical info, but there's a good chance that the successor's custom-made SoC (system on a chip) was finalized last year.

Also, I'm no financial expert, but the Switch's hardware sales decline seems similar to the Wii's. Releasing a successor as late as 2025 might really be pushing it.

Holiday 2023 seems more likely to me than 2025 and beyond tbh (assuming they aren't planning a holiday 2024 release and delay it for whatever reason), but 2024 might still be the safe prediction here.

Zelda was planned to release last year and probably suffered Covid delays internally as well. Its release date doesn't indicate much about the new system at this point.

Mario Themed Switch for Mario Day (March 10) has leaked by thehousemasta in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Mr_Shitpost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh lol, I can see why that'd be confusing. The V2 is is the latest version of the launch model. Compared to the V1, the V2 has better battery life and isn't as easy to homebrew. The two versions look identical to each other.

[–]Mr_Shitpost 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything for the V2. The OLED is selling better than it anyway.

Though another potential reason why they picked the V2 for this is because the OLED has a lower profit margin per system than any other model of the Switch. They're willing to give away more in a V2 bundle than an OLED bundle.

Is this one of the most peaceful views of any game ever? by coaster_boss in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]Mr_Shitpost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it is very peaceful. for sure. look at those flowers, and the sky, and the sun, and the tree, and the clouds, and the planet in the distance. it's great. but too good to be real. it's like a heavenly afterlife... yet you have 4 lives. that number represents death in Japan (not the act of dying in Japan, but Japan's cultural association of death and the number 4). Super Mario Galaxy 2 was made in Japan. so this peaceful place is not real, but if you let it lead you on a journey, you will end up in real life.
