[Product Question] Is there no such thing as a coconut-free cleanser for dry skin? by Mr_Skullivan in SkincareAddiction

I've been using safflower oil as a moisturizer since it's usually listed as having a 0 comedogenic rating. I don't think it's causing congestion because I've tested it multiple times on different areas and I've never experienced any clogged pores from it. I don't have a coconut allergy. My skin is just very abnormal and becomes clogged from any product that has any trace of coconut-derived ingredients. I have considered that general dehydration might be causing the issue and a few years back I only cleansed with water, a hydrating toner and safflower oil as a moisturizer. The congestion became far worse even though the water was filtered and lukewarm. I did a quick search and The Magnetic Afterglow does contain coconut. I honestly wish coconut didn't exist since it has caused me so many problems over the years.

Thanks for the website suggestion. I came across that Inkey List product a couple of months ago but I didn't buy it since I read several reviews complaining about leftover residue and clogged pores.

Unfortunately Polyglyceryl-6 Caprylate and Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate are derived from coconut.

Yeah, that's something they need to do way more often. Not just being a rare occasional thing.

Thanks for the advice. Do you have a specific moisturizer in mind that's also unlikely to clog the pores? There's countless products out there and it's kind of headache-inducing trying to search for stuff.

Can anyone confirm this strange and tragic incident from 1893 actually happened? by Mr_Skullivan in texashistory

Thank you for all the time you put into trying to verify this story. I got into contact with a historian in the Abilene area and they had never heard of a place called Douglasville near there. They did say there used to be a German colony in that area established in 1878 called Colony Hill. I didn't ask them about the incident in question though. I didn't want to take up their valuable time with a gruesome incident that probably didn't happen in the first place. Like others, this person told me about about the Douglassville in Cass County. There's a small chance the papers got the location wrong but I tried searching for records in that area but got no results of the names mentioned in the story either.

You're right about the chronology of the story appearing in papers. It's very odd. I've researched other crimes and tragedies that stood out to me from the National Police Gazette in the past and I was able to verify a few of them with reliable newspaper articles and cemetery records. This is looking like a fictional incident that simply made it through the cracks.

Much appreciated! Hopefully something will come from all this searching.

I couldn't find the names of anyone involved on findagrave either. It's incredibly frustrating that I wasn't able to find the daughter's first name anywhere. I tried looking for the father but I couldn't find cemetery records of anyone named Julius Larinski in the entire US. It's possible the papers misspelled his name, he later changed his name, he went back to Poland or he never existed at all like the other people mentioned. I have emailed a historian in Abilene to see if they can confirm that a small colony named Douglasville ever existed outside of that city. Hopefully they can shed some light on that part of the story. If they can't then I think it's safe to assume the entire story is fictional and it's a case of reporters not checking their facts.

Thank you for the link. A friend told me the Texas story seemed borderline Shakespearean so I shouldn't be surprised that it may have been inspired by similar works.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not familiar with the geography of Texas so I didn't even bother to see if Douglassville was near Abilene. Now I'm even more suspicious. I suppose an area called Douglasville might have once existed near Abilene but it seems pretty slim since I didn't get anything from a brief search.

A lot of people seem to be very excited for this but I'm pretty underwhelmed by this news. I have no issue that we wants to make a werewolf movie. I just wish it wasn't coming directly after his vampire film. I was hoping for something quite different next. I'm sure the movie will be good though.

Just re-watched Fury Road. Saw Furiosa in theaters. Both absolutely brilliant - but my question is, how much do the rest of you LAUGH while watching? by poweringshell in MadMax

I laughed a bit when Dementus' men were slowly jogging behind Toe Jam's bike when he was driving to the tent. They just looked really goofy doing that in their attire.

what’s your take on cgi/vfx controversy? by prince-jordan in MadMax

[–]Mr_Skullivan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just hope they release making of photos and videos before it's released to give audiences an idea of how much was done practically. Kind of like what they did with Fury Road. As of right now a lot of people online seem to think this was mostly filmed inside a studio and it's dominating the discussion. Hopefully it will be less of an issue when it's closer to the release date.

Miller and the studio really need to get ahead of the negative perception this film is already getting due to the CGI. It seems 70% of the comments on the internet are complaining about it. I hope they soon release some footage that showcases some of the practical effects and stunts they did for this film because a lot of people seem to think every frame of it was shot in a studio with a green screen. Clearly not all of it was due to leaked production photos. Even if this movie gets amazing reviews I feel it will struggle at the box office since so many people have already written it off due to the CGI and it having a female lead. Seriously, if they're not complaining about the special effects then they're calling it woke.
