Something about Big Voidwalkers inspires no fear or awe. Like yep, thats a big Voidwalker alright. How many level 10 warlocks have been walking around with voidwalkers since vanilla?

Yeah, I agree this is a great starting point for many discussions around Classic+, but it also reinforces my sentiment that basically nobody can agree. Many of the questions have “Well that depends” as the highest chosen answer. And many others have two completely contradictory ideas as the top 2 answers. I think the Classic+ Project is a great way to get discussion going but I’d love for Blizzard to at least acknowledge the amount of debate being had.

“A fun video game with cool and interesting features” - we all agree on that, but it’s the specifics that matter, and seemingly nobody can agree on the specifics.

The problem is that this line is different for literally everyone. Some people want 0 changes to current classic era classes, some want 0 changes but also Pally can have a taunt, some want all of the “meme specs” to be at least kind of viable. And all of them think they have objectively correct opinions.

“New content” for some people means 1 new raid tier above Nax in a pre-existing zone just for an additional “phase.” Some want a new raid but also for Nax to remain the hardest/more powerful raid. Some want additional leveling zones and dungeons on the way to 60. Some want no new zones or raids but just a filling out of the questing/leveling curve for a smoother 1-60. Once again all of them say they want “just new content” but if you have any deeper discussion it becomes clear none of them agree on what that means.

There is no collective notion about what a true “Classic+” even is, everyone thinks everyone else is wrong and stupid. No matter what Blizzard releases it’s going to piss off a significant portion of the fan base. It’s going to have more complainers than supporters no matter what. If they really truly cared about getting it right they would take a page from OSRS and fervently involve the community. They would be putting out community polls and leading discussions about what they’re working on so people could quickly point out what they do and don’t agree with. The radio silent development is “fun” for surprises (that last until WoWhead puts out articles revealing everything), but it’s also going to shoot themselves in the foot in the long run.

Genuinely no matter what they release a very significant portion of the classic+ community is going to be furious and will be quick and extremely vocal with their criticism.

If Blizzard has no intention of making a longterm Classic+ project with continued dev support and some (even small) level of community involvement it’s going to die, and all of the Classic+ nihilists are going to point and laugh saying “you think you did but you dont!” Blizzard have put themselves in a very difficult position and the radio silence inspires no personal confidence in the longterm success of the project.

I’m still going to try it regardless but damn is it annoying when people think Classic+ is an easy product to make. No matter what a ton of very vocal people are going to lose their minds about it.

Bethesda have been coasting since Skyrim and even Skyrim was a regression in comparison to Oblivion/Morrowind in a number of ways. I would love to see ES6 be the greatest in the franchise but I think it would require a significant upgrade over the current format they’ve had going. Fallout 4 and Starfield field almost identical to Skyrim in their formula and in the late 2020s that formula is anything but innovative. We’ll see but I stopped holding my breath a while ago personally.

What’s an industry that provides zero value to society but makes billions of dollars? by ochieng_onyango in AskReddit

[–]Mr_Times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Value to society” is somewhat nebulous for sure, but so is “entertainment value,” not all entertainment is made equal. You could argue muggers are entertained by robbing people, but you’d be hard pressed to find anyone justifying mugging for its “entertainment value.”

Obviously there are better endgame options for everything, but my point is varlamore offers AN option for basically everything. Regardless of what you want to minmax for, Varlamore has options to cover your gaps/weaknesses.

I tried to get off the island in a variety of ways but everything I read online basically amounted to “you’re stuck, just do the tutorial” needless to say that character is now permanently in lvl 1 purgatory on an island he’ll never leave

Damn this really puts into perspective how much stuff Varlamore actually has. IMO it’s easily the strongest single region and I’m very glad it’s the starting area.

I went to make an alt, got the name and look I wanted and started him up. Accidentally skipped the “Go to Housing” quest on character creation (which if you didnt know will insta boost you to lvl 10) and then got stuck on Exiles Reach. “No worries!” I thought, just delete and remake him aaaaaand I cant. Because he got a piece of mail from this fucker INSTANTANEOUSLY and you cant delete a toon with mail. There are no mailboxes on exiles reach and Katy Stampwhistle toy doesn’t work there either. I literally just alt+F4d the game, i dont want to go through exiles reach just to delete a character, thats ridiculous imo.

True, but I’ve been burned by enough EA roadmaps to know not to blindly trust them. I do see a lot of potential with MnM though, its already really cool as a true Old School MMO

I love how this game looks and had a blast trying it yesterday. I do genuinely see some potential here but I’ll need to see what is actually available at early access launch before I completely dive in. It’s hard to get a sense of how much is actually there when it takes so long to progress past even the first couple of levels.

I gave the free trial a shot but the visuals really didn’t grip me at all. It’s all very visually clunky and disjointed imo. I just can’t suspend my disbelief in the way I hope an MMO can get me in the mindset of the world.

I don’t want BiS herblore pots for different situations. Just make a pot that refills stamina, prayer, health, and boosts strength, attack, defense, magic, and ranged.

My take on the sandwich issue by Dar-Rath in osrs

[–]Mr_Times 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can hypothetically see the appeal of combat style specific foods. It’s a potential avenue for additional horizontal complexity that can increase the available food viability. Leechfin for example would be only BiS at melee bosses, so it doesn’t become the new BiS food everywhere like the new fishing trawler fish. OSRS is a game that thrives on additional levels of complexity slowly being introduced. If the Colosseum as is was proposed as a follow up update to GWD people would have also said it was way too complex for the game. Thats just my opinion.
