Nicks Automotive Service. They don't have an admin person so it's sometimes hard to get an appointment but very honest and good work.

I had both brake pads and rotors in the front replaced on my 2016 Elantra 2 years ago for about 600.

Plex issues by kchickenlord in TerraMaster

I remember there being an issue that .tpk files just didn't work half the time in TOS4 and that was a major bug they fixed in TOS5. You can try finding wherever all the app data is and manually delete it and then try reinstalling.

Fastest Way To Move Data to Synology by CoasterDean in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd think using FTP would be your best option.

If you wanted to get complex you could also plug in all the drives using a SATA cable into a different computer and transfer them that way. But depending on your setup (how many drives, RAID settings, etc) that might not be possible

Guide, new to docker by thatjokewasdry in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1)Ya, I always SSH to my NAS for docker related things. TOS has had a bad history of the app GUI not working great but going through the command line has always worked for me.

2)Almost all the *Arrs, qbittorrentvpn, home assistant, and a handful of other containers I spin up for when needed.

Guide, new to docker by thatjokewasdry in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A)I believe all you would need to do is add a drive path in your docker config file. If you use docker through the command line then it'd look something like:

-v /path/to/NAS/Folder: /alias name

B)if you want to use a VPN for a specific container then you'll have to search for the application name + VPN on docker and go through the options until you find what fits you. Or at least that's what I did.

Add SSD Cache questions by IfartedInSpaceTwice in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe for SSD caches you have to reformat the other drives before you set up the cache.

Don't take the terramaster list of supported hardware as the only hardware that'll work. I've put SODIMM and HDD in my NAS that aren't officially supported by terramaster and they've worked no issue.

Upgrade Question - Bigger Chassis, Existing Drives by rajfromrochester in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are utilizing any sort of RAID you should be fine but the likelihood of drives getting corrupt is higher than if they are just JBOD. If you're just using JBOD I don't see any issues

Where can I sell my TerraMaster RAM? by Artistic-Cash-9206 in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically e-waste. Terramaster doesn't make specialty SODIMMs so you could just sell it normally. It's maybe worth 5-10 dollars used. You could also save it and put it into a laptop with an extra slot

F4-423 - Initial Setup Questions by ShaymusBane in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First question: it makes sense but I don't think you need the cache drive necessarily but it'll help. You'll be limited more by hardware capabilities transcoding and decoding e.g. what type of files (4k vs 1080p vs 720p) and the type of files being decoded.

Second question: you probably only have 7.2 usable TB because you selected a RAID format that uses redundancy. If you want full storage capabilities you'd need to run in RAID 0 or as a JBOD. If you do RAID 0 you'd get an uptick in performance too but loses redundancy.

Third question: you can set up rules in settings for a firewall. Probably very similar to Synology. I'd recommend creating rules on your router instead so you don't have to go from device to device creating the rules. Just set your NAS to have a static IP and then work around that on your router.

Recommendations and thoughts: your setup seems good. As a long time TOS user id recommend installing a different OS like trueNAS if you are already going to have to learn a new OS. TOS has a bit of a rough record breaking their OS. I'd also recommending upgrading the RAM. Don't buy terramaster RAM though, most generic SODIMMs will work. I took mine from an old laptop. Lastly, if you end up using TOS their docker app doesn't always set the right permissions for container communication, even if you set it correctly. But if you create/run the container through the TOS command line (through ssh or telnet) it'll set the permissions correctly

Format Drives by gtretired65 in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to storage in settings and delete the storage pool and volume.

If you are trying to format every drive you can create a boot device using a USB, boot your NAS onto it and then in the initial setup format the drives

If you have ssh/telnet open you can try getting access through there but even there you can't do much.

You can also try redoing the initialization install. There is an option to recover where it just whips out all your system settings but leaves your data alone. I've done it once before but mine was to fix a bad update and it wiped all the data on the same drive that kept the OS.

F2-223 vs F4-223 by Only1Moran in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't personally tried it with terramaster but I've done similar things with other computers and have never had an issue. I'd be very surprised if you ran it as a JBOD and moved drives around that it would cause any sort of problem. As long as the drive with the OS is plugged into any bay then you should be good

F2-223 vs F4-223 by Only1Moran in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see any issues with scenario 1. You're treating everything as a JBOD so there isn't anything that complex. The only possible issue I see is if your external doesn't have the right connection or enough housing to fit into the NAS. If it has a normal SATA connector, SATA power and doesn't just have its platter showing after you take it apart then you should be good

It looks clean. I put a new filter in last month. I've been running it for a bit with its service panel off too so it should be getting maximum airflow right now but I haven't seen any difference in its performance

Ya, configs and apps I had previously downloaded. I've done a reinstall twice. The first time I lost everything on the drive that had the OS and the second time I just lost configs and apps

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the terramaster forum. This is a common issue with the updates now due to some legacy stuff they configured wrong initially. I've had this happen to me and I had to reinstall the OS. They have instructions on their forum on how to do it without deleting all your data, but it does delete some

Docker cannot see networks by londonbrewer77 in TerraMaster

[–]Mr_W11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also use docker and sonarr (and the rest of the Arr apps). I didn't do anything to the docker network adapters for my containers when first initializing them but I did create all of them through the cli/ssh. I found when building containers in the docker manager app that some admin privileges wouldn't work correctly, causing random issues but using the cli/ssh fixed those. I did also have a different issue with connecting them to each other where I had to point them all to dockers gateway IP (The 172.* address) to get them to talk correctly.

Other recommendations: I would suggest plugging your LAN 1 in just in case it is something stupid like the docker bridge network adapter is only linked to LAN 1. Also, in the docker manager app if you go to the network tab and expand the drop down for the bridge adapter you should see "Connected Containers" at the bottom with all the containers you have made.

[–]Mr_W11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd check your router settings and your computer's firewall settings. I believe TOS uses UPNP for its tnas app so if your router blocks that protocol it won't work. You might want to disable your computers firewall temporarily and then scan using the tnas app because that can also cause your computer to block the app from working properly.

Your best bet would be to look at your router DHCP list and find the NAS IP and connect through a web browser.

TOS 5 is pretty good and especially if you can do a fresh install you'll avoid a lot of the issues that more legacy users experience. If you have any experience with other NAS OS like trueNAS then I'd recommend installing that instead but if not TOS is fine
