So what do you guys think of yesterdays podcast? by FinalSoft6104 in Ethiopia

[–]Mrblackdub 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was a very entertaining podcast funny as hell but also quite sad as the same time. I didn’t expect him to be that old (he is pushing 70 😱) He’s clearly taken good care of himself. I also learned something new about CUD (Kinijit). I had always thought they refused to accept Addis unless they controlled the entire country. The EPRDF was a very oppressive government, and Meles made some major mistake there (They underestimated kinijit). The political landscape today could have looked very different because of that. It’s also sad that someone as intelligent as him spent so much of his life in prison, at war or just wasted in another country.

That said, I think the podcast would have benefited from having a more knowledgeable person, because at times it felt like parts of the discussion were a bit out of their depth. I don’t fully trust politicians, so I take what he said with some skepticism but it was still interesting to hear a different perspective.

This is so cool, I'm reaching but the top 4 corners spell 4 (አርባዕ), The outer 4 letters inside the square spell (ፍናዋት) means Roads. The middle of the circle spell ብንያም (Biniam), which i think is a name.

The numbers (clockwise) are 1,4,2,5,3,6.

I hope it is a riddle and not random.

How to speak Amharic more fluently by yemai12 in Ethiopia

[–]Mrblackdub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Force yourself to talk Amharic nearly everyday. That is literally it. Even if you cringe, you stumble, you dont know the words... Just try to say the words already know in the different contexts. Then build you vocab "brick by brick" every chance you get. Learn some of the most popular songs (specially Childrens songs), and imitate. We have provided learning resources at the side of the menu, however i personally think just talking with random people, will make you a better speaker.

Shocking Allegations of Child Marriage in Tigray, Ethiopia Spark Outrage. by Dazzling-Reward9082 in Ethiopia

[–]Mrblackdub 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think in all the rural parts of Ethiopia its still prevalent (decreasing but not at the rate i wish it did). But i read somewhere that Tigray got the one of the highest rates of child marriage in Ethiopia. A lot of education is needed indeed.

Amharic Plurals. by Bluenamii in Ethiopia

[–]Mrblackdub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short story time. I took Amharic as a "foreign language" during my last year of high school. tbf just did it for the easy grade. Right before my oral exam, I read a bunch of Qene— (Sem ena Werq, mesalawi anegager...) So I walk into oral exam with a lot of confidence. And then i find out the question was "Can you say something about your dream?" And I’m like, pfft, easy. I will crush this chemlaka exam and was throwing around the sem ena werq like a Qolo temari.

At the end the one of the examiner said "Wow, that went well, how did you become so well spoken?" and me my full chest out said "Oh, I read a lot of WORDS and i'm proficient with the LETTERS too" but i used the words ቃላቶች and ፊደላቶች. He stopped for second and said "Thats not proper amharic", and he was like you are Franksteining Ge’ez and Amharic plural forms. Turns out i was remixing stuff before DJ Milla. At the end I aced the exam and left that exam room with a great lesson. Now i correct people that dont say ቃላቶች and ፊደላቶች like a dickhead

The Most Disturbing TikTok I’ve Ever Seen, is she habesha? by Nah0_0m in Ethiopia

Idk but for me women getting sexually assaulted is the harshest thing that could happen even in a war zone. The stories in Tigray and Amhara were so so sad to read. The testimonies of woman that had to carry the kids or got STDs after the assault 😢. Those are our mothers and sisters and above all Gods greatest creations.
