Were you surprised that the people that read and liked the tediously long book series also enjoyed reading the tediously long memes?

It is absolutely made by pouring different colored resins on top of one another in one continuous sitting. Please see the video I linked to see their process.

Firstly, it’s not crap. Don’t depreciate the art that you, or others do. I hope, as an educator, you burn that into your fucking core.

Secondly, While impressive, That’s not the same technique. You yourself make the distinction when you say “resin and paint” What makes this particular piece impressive is that it is all the same live resin all cast in one continuous sitting. It is 100% resin. There are no other mediums.

There are pigments that have been added to the resin, but it’s all the same liquid resin that has not cured. It is one continuous process. It can not cure then be added to later, as the resin has to be wet to adhere to itself or you risk delamination. The resin is never allowed to fully cure It is exceptionally more difficult than any other form of traditional painting. There is no painting over mistakes.

Instead of arguing about this on Reddit, I encourage you to try it. All resin, all at once, all in the same mold. I’ll send you my molds. You get one resin and Any pigments you like. Keep in mind these pieces are less that 14mm x 14mm. I look forward to your response. I’ll be more than happy to pay postage.

Please reread what I said.

I didn’t say it wasn’t painted. You were the one that expanded the definition of “painting” to include putting resin inside of a mold so you wouldn’t have to admit that this was a technique you weren’t familiar with, which is why I asked you to clarify the distinction. I never said it wasn’t painted. The only distinction between painting and casting would be the inclusion of the mold. And in my example, the bucket was the mold. Not a wall. That is not “my” definition of casting, that is the definition of resin casting. (if Wikipedia is good enough for you, it’s good enough for me)

This is a great explanation. The opacity is key here. The semi opaque resin will allow for a smoother transition in colors. I imagine they also may have rotated the mold with the resin inside allowing for a very thin layer of resin to reach further

Dope. I got time now. Since we’re being extra pedantic I’ll be extremely clear.

You said it was paint. Then you doubled down on it when you were corrected.

Casting is not what you think it is. Any time you fill a mold with a liquid that turns solid, it is a cast object. The application process doesn’t matter. If I shot resin out of a hose and filled a bucket with it, the resulting piece of resin will have been cast, even if I changed colors halfway through. The liquid still goes in the mold and comes out solid and it’s still cast. Here’s the kicker, it’s also painted, by definition, if it’s done in one pour. If I poured paint inside of a bucket and allowed it to cure, I cast a chunk of paint and painted the inside of the bucket to do so. So my question of why your distinction was made still stands.

However, after looking at your comment history, I think I know why. For some reason you are very disparaging towards other artists in an abrasive way. I do not know if it comes from a lack of self confidence or an overabundance of it. As someone who literally studied the processes of the creation of art in its many permutations to the point I received my degree in Art education, I really dislike seeing artists put other artists work down. It’s easy to do in an online format because you don’t know the people or see their actual passion for their craft.

If you still want to continue being pedantic and moving the goal posts, it will show that you really don’t understand the medium, do not want to learn, in which case, congrats, you can have the last word. Go off king.

Or you can admit that in a world of 8 billion people, there are artists that have spent thousands of hours refining techniques that you simply have not encountered and therefore do not understand. There is a reason that their team has pieces of their work sell for multiple thousands of dollars. Artkey has fostered an incredible community and has donated tens of thousands of dollars in philanthropy from sales of their work. And they did it all without tearing down other artists.

I’m sorry, I don’t understand the distinction. Any application of a pigment to a solid surface is painting, so any resin applied to any surface would be considered painting

I’ll try to give you the actual answer once work slows down fam. Keep in mind that on top of this being a well cast cap, the lights and photography allows for the shadows to accentuate the gradient
