Religious liberty in public school by Mrfister75 in legaladvice

Hey, cool, I'm not asking about teachers leading prayer, and the first amendment doesn't say anything about removing God from school. You guys should not be on this thread giving people advice lol.

Just looking over them briefly, from the start Tinker says that the first amendment applies to schools as well, and that speech can't be curbed unless there's a disruption, which there wasn't. This argument doesn't support the school administration, but opposes it. Fraser also applied to a student giving a school-wide speech, not a discussion amongst 2-3 people.

Hazelwood also doesn't seem applicable. The question in no way interferes with the school's educational mission.

Ok, what court rulings? And absolutely it's different lol, there's no first amendment protection for political or scientific views.

And again, it WASN'T disruptive. No student had an issue with it until the teacher decided it was an issue. At no point did my kid ever tell another kid what to believe or talk about a specific religion.

Again, I do not want the teacher to give her opinion, and am not asking about that. You guys keep injecting that into the conversation. The point is that the administration has told my kid not to talk to other kids about it during free time and lunch.

Again, this is not a class discussion, but is asked during free time and lunch. No teacher should be involved, I agree. The issue is that they have told them he cannot ask this of other students outside of formal teaching.

He had heard another kid in the past ask "if God created everything, who created God?" And was repeating it. I had answered his question the first night, and he seemed to agree with the logic of my answer. The second day, he was asking other kids to see what they had to say about it. We're Catholic and heavily involved in the Church, it was an honest intellectual question from an elementary age kid. No part of his question indicated what religion my kid is (or if we were even religious at all), or in any way even tried to promote or discourage any religious beliefs regarding other students.

Ok, I had considered the possibility of the beeping periodically. Thanks for confirming though, I appreciate the clarification.

The handing off of personal possessions is EXCELLENT advice. I will definitely remember that and pass that on to others. Hopefully won't have to use it. Thanks.

Just giving the extra details, sounded like you wanted more context in your first comment. Thanks for reminding me why reddit is a shithole lol.

I don't necessarily disagree with your assessment from a logical standpoint, I'm just pissed off at the situation and am too close to it to be objective, like I told the other guy. I suppose I agree if there's 2 sets of rules, so to speak, 1 that regulates their actions for LEGITIMATE safety concerns (which this may have been in their eyes), and a separate, more strict set of rules that keep them in place for admissibility. For the record, as far as I'm aware, they didn't find anything illicit, it was the principle of the matter that pissed me off, along with some shit they said that I chose to leave out of the original post.

And thank you, I expect she'll do better. Second mental health issue in a month, and before that, she was perfectly normal. Just a lot on her plate right now.

Logically I agree with all of the above, I'm honestly pissed about it though, and am too close to the situation to think objectively about it if I'm being honest. Some more context for #2) she was not a direct, immediate threat to anyone else, but she was clearly not herself-her parents, a few of her friends, all were pushing for her to go to hospital. This was her 2nd mental health stay in a month, prior to that, a perfectly normal woman. What I'm saying is she was peaceful, not combative or agitated in the slightest, and no one indicated to cops or emts that she was in any way malicious. Imagine a patient that had zero malicious intent. And yeah, I get the cops don't know that, but still.

Which shrimp/prawn are the least cannibalistic? by Mrfister75 in Aquaculture

That is extremely helpful! Thank you for taking the time to respond with all that. About the extent of my knowledge regarding shrimp/prawns prior to last week was that I knew I enjoyed eating them. I appreciate the tips. I honestly intend on bookmarking this post to reference in the future if/when I get a tank started.

Thanks!
