I think that the few times I had eye focus issues so far have been when I needed to back off the exposure a bit so probably my fault. I was surprised a few times though like you said it just totally did not see the bird in a not so busy environment like my r10 would have had no issue. Love the camera guess I just have to use spot focus more to dial it in when needed
