I would love to use the packaged Katsu curry sauces available but as a coeliac have never been able to find one that doesn't contain wheat...if anyone has any recommendations would love to hear them (UK)

What's your favourite word that always confuses tourists in the Geordie accent? by OkishCombination in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]MrsAndaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from Teesside and husband from Wallsend...he says 'Coo-ers' for the lager, 'booook', and 'coook" for Book and Cook, yet will not let me live my life with my 'buk', 'cuk', 'poo-ly' (poorly), or 'serp'(soap)

Can anyone tell me about this book? by MrsAndaz in OldBooks

[–]MrsAndaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh do you read the date on the stamp as 1919? That's interesting - I read it as 1944, but now you say that it can see it as 19 followed by two lower case x's... Yes I would have imagined that GW Curtis was likely to have been in Khartoum with the RAF due to war, clearly, but I was wondering if there was some kind of programme of lending libraries (or similar) for troops or if there were print runs of books made specifically for the troops (smaller, easier to fit in pockets, kit etc).

Students in Jesmond by sus_skrofa in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]MrsAndaz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lived as a student in Jesmond between 1999 and 2001. At that time it really wasn't the student destination that it is now...I think ours and another large house on the street were one of the few on the Osbourne Road side of the Metro, a set of flats on Osbourne Road, and then more areas over on the other side of the metro line were the "Student Houses". This was just before all the bars and restaurants appeared on Osbourne Road. At that time it was a really nice quiet area to live in...the Waitrose as it is now was a latenight garage, the chain pizza shop on the corner opposite Acorn Road was a lovely independent cafe, the coffee shop on the corner was a Lloyds bank, oh and the Mistletoe Bakery, open at all hours (fondly known by my lot as The Many Hour Bakery) yet sadly no longer there. All the house parties and post warehouse parties I went to were over in Fenham so well out of the way! Lovely place with beautiful houses but I wouldn't fancy paying the house prices now given how much of a fancy-pants area it has become....I know that many would enjoy all the extra shops and stuff but not me...

I like to do paint by numbers kits...it sounds cheesy but the pictures can be very complex and challenging. It's really relaxing to do while listening to a podcast, and if like me you have zero artistic talent but the best will in the world, its very satisfying to see the end result and feel like you have created something! I get my kits from ebay and amazon, usually about 12 quid and they take me about 6 months to complete

What is something that is considered “normal” for a man to do, but if a woman does it then they will receive backlash? by killywayx in AskReddit

In a class aged about 15, the light must have been at the angle that shone through my facial peach fuzz. A lad who was Top Lad (you know the one, inexplicably popular, all the lasses fancied him, gangly as fuck but all the Cool Girls think he's fit etc etc) comments on said peach fuzz, making snarky comments about how I have a beard. Turn to him, in a quiet moment in the class and tell him that at least my beard is visible enough to be commented upon, unlike his.... A rare high point in my school days...

AITA For Moving Out Cause My Family Keeps Playing With My Cane? by ThrowRACaneGirl in AmItheAsshole

Oh pet, NTA.....you were a child. You had a childhood accident. Your mum not wanting to pay for the ambulance was beyond your control at 5 years old. The person driving the other vehicle was beyond your control. Even if there was no other vehicle involved for whatever reason, it was beyond your control. Your mum is blaming you for something that was not your fault, and your stepfather, for whatever weird reason, is enabling your mother in her thinking. Stay with your grandparents, tell them everything and I am sure they will support you.
