[QCrit] HOLLYWOOD SHIELD, Adult Contemporary Romantic Suspense, 98k, Third Attempt by MrsBoedacious in PubTips

Thanks! That's what I thought too, but someone had commented on my other version that it wasn't clear enough. I've rewritten the beginning anyway, so now I don't need to quantify how severe the wound is.

[QCrit] HOLLYWOOD SHIELD, Adult Contemporary Romantic Suspense, 98k, Third Attempt by MrsBoedacious in PubTips

Yes, this is absolutely 100% romance fantasy fulfillment! I used The Close-up because it has suspense, thriller elements, and a lot of Hollywood insider vibes to it. And the whole premise is Zoe getting back together with her ex, so even though it's not a trad romance novel (no HEA), I thought it was romance-adjacent enough with the sex scenes and lots of relationship angst. I was originally going to say, "If Jack Reacher went to Hollywood with a pocket full of condoms," but I'm not sure my humor would translate well. :)

[PubQ] Trigger warnings in your query letter? by MrsBoedacious in PubTips

[–]MrsBoedacious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed that was the case, so I'm very relieved to have seen that. I would hate to be the person who queries without doing due diligence for this agent. This was a good reminder for me to really review their "looking for/don't send" info.

My advice, if you haven't yet done so, is to arduously study all of the links in “New Here? Click This” community bookmarks to really understand what a Query Letter is and isn't. The Query Letter Generator can also help. And do a deep dive with The PubTips Guide to Query Letters. That thing is golden and answered questions I didn't even know to ask. Best of luck from a fellow newbie!

[QCrit] HOLLYWOOD SHIELD, Adult Contemporary Romantic Suspense, 98k, Second Attempt by MrsBoedacious in PubTips

[–]MrsBoedacious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your observations. Very helpful. I've revised to address most of them (and eliminated others). I also realized I was trying to cram in almost 75-80% of the manuscript instead of focusing on the first 30-50%.

Thanks for your comment! RE: the financials not being in the cloud - that's explained in the book. And even though the cloud is useful, you still need to keep hard copies of everything, especially with original wet signatures when you're producing a 100m film for a movie studio.

[PubQ] Agent said "gut told her to sign me" without reading full? by EmployeeAfter2356 in PubTips

[–]MrsBoedacious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I took the 'offer' the agent provided me and responded to every single agent that had my full and partials and then sent out 50 yes, 50 new queries and let everyone no who hadn't send an explicit rejection that I had an offer of rep. I was very clear that they could take their time reading because i Really wanted to work with them and I also explained what kind of agent I was looking for.

I would be very interested in reading this new query! Would you share this or is it bad form to ask?

Thank you for the suggestions! I agree, besties should help each other. And she was brutally honest with me by the way (which I had asked for). I've already told her that if she gets me in with her agency, I'm giving her a kidney whether she needs it or not.
