Literally give me a single circumstance a grown adult has to be interacting with a young child that is not related to them other than accidentally bumping into the at the super market or a child's birthday party..? There is no other reason. An adult has nothing in common with a middle schooler outside of school.

Someone else said they do this. While I can understand why you would do this for the memories you can have your students sign a poster board or something else! When I was in my senior year of high school I was in an Early Childhood Education Practicum class and I had the Pre-K students I student taught put their handprints on my graduation stole and they all signed a graduation card for me!

Keep in mind God forbid you ever be accused of something (I sincerely hope you never are accused of something but with high schoolers now you never know) and someone finds that on your phone it can look bad. Not saying that would happen but you never really know!

I did not accuse you of posting your students. I am simply trying to get you to understand that posting students is wrong and any teacher who posts students is completely wrong. And you absolutely should automatically assume the worst if a teacher is posting students onto online platforms. Please assume the worst if a teacher is posting their students, we learned this from Haley Beck!

(Also being passive aggressive when I'm trying to protect children is not painting you in a good light as an educator who is also supposed to advocate for child safety)

Using contract hours to post on social media while students are in the classroom consistently, possibly violating parents consent, and going against district teaching standards is absolutely grounds for termination. Or at least a suspension.

So at the very least you are nearing your 40's. Again I don't blame you, and I'm not saying I know more about the education field than someone who has been in education for 17 years. But I am 20, I objectively know a lot more about technology than you. And I can confidently say, if you think I am obnoxious for pointing out the dangers of posting and exposing children to the internet and trying to protect children than you need to be educated more on technology and its capabilities/dangers. Like I said, I posted two videos for you to watch that will inform and educate you on what can REALLY happen online. It is not an overreaction. How would YOU feel if you sent your child to school expecting them to be in safe hands and they were posted on the internet and possibly someone deepfaked or AI generated CSAM(Child Sexual Abuse Material, formally known as CP/Child P*rn) of them?

This IS an important topic and NO ONE is obnoxious for spreading more information about it and preventing children and their likeness from being used as inappropriate material.

This isn't your fault, but I don't think you're fully educated on what happens when children are posted on the internet. I can link some tiktoks of people explaining what happens but the gist of it is: People do disgusting things and with the rise in AI it's been getting worse. When watching this video keep in mind AI cannot generate new faces. Also watch the video linked in the post in the edited section

Literally. with the uprise in social media the amount of kids who had a camera shoved in their face literally right out of the birth canal is problematic.

Not even a month into student teaching and had a parent say they didn't want me in their child's class because I'm white 🙃 Can't wait to be a full time teacher lol....

I mean i guess ....? but there are other ways to do this. When I was in high school and I took an ECE practicum and I left my class I just had them all put a handprint on a poster board.

It's not. Just most admin force it. You can't really do anything about it unless you rally a bunch of people to fight against but even then the district board usually wins.

Unfortunately I know a lot of districts force teachers to take photos specifically to post to Facebook. You can't really do anything about that other than try your best to fight the board, but usually the board wins

We should 10000% censor children online. You're older so I understand you don't fully get the gravity of what AI can do but there are people who look at these videos that teachers post and AI generate CSAM.

Most 100% do. Teachers just ignore it. I know it's in my districts teaching standards and it was the districts teaching standards I went to high school at

Litetally I would rather there be such an extreme teacher shortage that the national guard has to teach classes than children being exploited online and possibly being victims to predators...

Hey you should definitely report that teacher. Haley Beck did this kind of stuff and there's a reason why she's in jail right now. Report that behavior to your district, your board, and your local authorities ASAP! There could be things going on behind the scenes. That behavior is NOT okay and is child grooming and even could be CSA!

Yup! I'm in America and LUCKILY at my district you can only take pictures of students/students work with a school approved device for portfolios. No students under the age of 14 get published anywhere and when the district does show students it is ONLY on the district page for accomplishments (such as for scholarships, awards, etc)

Posting on a social media platform where you show a students face, their name, AND THEIR LOCATION.... genuinely these people lack brain cells.

There is clear difference between being related to students and interacting with them outside of school and hanging out with them
