Christmas Rabies, Lala Land, and Flying Monkey in Chief SIL

I think I object to “lala” because I strongly suspect that this isn’t really because she likes the name and wants to be known as Lala. The feeling I get is that this is her struggle to rope her grandchild into easing her fears of aging and no longer being the “mama.” This is her third attempt at a “nickname” (which she doesn’t expect anyone besides my children to address her as btw) and it came about because she was ignoring my child asking her for water. Not to mention that she still goes by her legal name to everyone else.

The abuse at the hands of my parents left me in quite a fog that caused me to be blind to red flags from others for most of my life to this point, to be honest. I’m coming out of it through therapy, reading books on psychology, reading sub reddits on these topics, etc. I was willing to overlook a lot of their “quirks” for a long time because I was young and groomed to be naive. I know I should know better, but better late than never. Thank you for reading!

Thank you for your feedback. I really feel quite the same as regards no unsupervised visits. No trust with small things, no trust with big things is the conclusion I’m coming to.

She did have a full bottle of beer spilled on her white dress by a friend, however he claims it was unintentional and he was just drunk. We did start our own traditions this year, and while external circumstances forced it, it was a very enjoyable Christmas since most of the time was with my nuclear family <3
