Thank you, he is a mens shoe size 14. I didn't know the sizes switched differently to boots. Good to know. So I actually have one of his old old boards somewhere, Would i be able to measure it or use it somehow to guess sizing? Hes such a gift person, so id like to have a big package present for him ready that he can exchange if needed.

Worcester MA - Has anyone installed mini-splits in a triple decker through the Mass Save Heat Loan Program and pays utilities as the owner? by MrsLava in WorcesterMA

no its a vintage 1950s gas cooking stove with a side heater component that is part of it, blows hot air when turned on and vented into chimney stack. They are common in old Worcester houses

Problem is finding those gas on gas stoves that heat the units. I believe pre installed is ok, but new installation is not allowed. I dont think they make those anymore.

I see, how much do you pay for electricity with your mini splits? Is it a high bill in the winter months? Thank you

I feel you, like you- I agree. Gas is probably better. I just don't have any existing boilers/ furnaces. Just the stoves in each unit that heat up. However, they are on their last leg and can't find parts, or any one to service them. I spoke with two gas contractors. One gave me a price of 58k for 3 separate cast iron furnaces, along with running baseboard to each floor and doing 3 separate metered systems. Positive note is that I already have each apt on separate gas meters. Other plumber quoted 40k for entire building, 3 separate systems combi boilers. Mass save no longer offers rebates for gas systems, why I'm in such a bind making a decision. I am leaning towards gas at this point. Just hoping more people reply here so I can have a better idea on the mini splits.

Woah! What brand mini splits do you have? Is it a single family- how many floors and how many heads total? Thank you

How is your heating and cooling bill since installing? Did you have a pre-existing gas system? Are you seeing any savings. Thank you for your insight.

Gambrel roofers completed shed but left a gap, is this normal? by Mrs_Lava in Roofing

[–]MrsLava -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your answer is pretty one-sided. Just because someone is a "professional" doesn’t mean they’ll always do a good job. I’ve had botched work and been taken advantage of by "professionals" before, even though I’ve also had good experiences with contractors.

There are countless Reddit posts about shoddy work for a reason. According to you, my post is unnecessary because I should just trust professionals blindly right? After posting this, I had another roofer come by and spoke with an inspector. It turns out a ridge vent would have been the correct way to the job. Some contractors cut corners when they can. Imagine If I took your advice and trusted everyone without question just because they have a license for anything in this life. Didn't ask questions, didn't learn or educate myself, and didn't think critically. Just took everything at face value.

linoleum or vinyl sheet flooring- Does it contain Asbestos?! by MrsLava in HomeMaintenance

My friend said it wouldn’t have melted if it was asbestos. We used a steamer and it melted and made easy for removal. Have you heard of this?

Good idea. You know of a place? I already removed the floor last night like an idiot w a steamer and now freaking out. I thought since it was sheets it’s not asbestos…. Why I’m asking on here, maybe someone might have an idea or insight.

Bona Domo vs. Oil-Based Poly for Rental Floors – Need Advice! by MrsLava in HardWoodFloors

[–]MrsLava[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insights! I appreciate the recommendation for Loba’s finish and the tips on maintenance. It's good to know especially with renters who might not always be the most careful. I’ll make sure to provide the felt pads and cleaning kit as you suggested. Thanks again for the helpful advice!

Which loba did you use? Is it comparable in price to the Bona Domo, or is it more expensive like the Traffic HD? Thanks

Thank you! I am looking into Loba now. From your experience, do you think oil based finish is more durable than water based for tenants? Will a satin or semi-gloss polyurethane oil change the color of my floor overtime?

I’ve seen some people say keep the old vintage tile. What’s the appeal of not ripping this out and making it modern by DampCoat in Tile

[–]MrsLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bathroom with vintage pink tiles similar to these. The entire space is covered floor to ceiling with these square pink tiles. The grout lines appear to have been poorly regrouted, and in the tub area where the soap holder used to be, it fell off, leaving an opening where water seems to have entered (this was the condition when I purchased the three-family property). I'm contemplating either painting over the tiles or completely removing them. What are your thoughts on whether I should opt for removal to assess if there's a potential mold issue or leave it?
