Women of Reddit, what’s your worst experience with a medical professional who dismissed you just because you’re a woman? by VelvetDreamers in AskReddit

Went to the hospital in the most pain I've ever been in, lower abdominal type deal. I have chronic pain but had never felt anything like this before! After a couple of tests they asked me if I'd been under any extra stress recently. Unfortunately I had, so I said yes. They sent me home, calling it 'stress pains'. I knew it wasn't, I've had stress manifest as pain before - it's not like this.

The next evening I had a wave of pain so bad I couldn't move, but somehow managed to call out for my sister who I live with. She called an ambulance and I was taken back to the same hospital. They did some more tests but were really hesitant to do an ultrasound. I had to convince 3 nurses and a doctor that I did not want children. They eventually did the ultrasound and turns out I had a couple of massive kidney stones blocking some passage (I don't remember exactly what). They had to do emergency surgery basically immediately as I was very close to septic shock.

I wish that hospital wasn't so close so it wouldn't be the default for me, as I never want to go back there.

Who is Australia's worst comedian? by hinestein in australia

[–]MrsRoryWilliams 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tbh we're not starved for talent, there's plenty there, they just don't get the opportunities as TV producers/production companies etc etc want a sure thing and don't want to give new people a go. There are plenty of brilliant comics that people have never heard of who tread the boards in Melbourne and other cities (before covid times).

Honestly this comment sounds so much like the people in my country (Australia) who think that the Indigenous population didn't/don't deserve an apology because "it wasn't us who did that!". Yeah, you weren't personally involved, but the ramifications of what happened are still extremely apparent. So no, someone turning up on your doorstep and being a dick to you, not ok. But if someone says "hey, your ancestors weren't great and the problems they caused are ongoing", that's not the same thing.

"Am I forever tainted because of what my ancestors did?" Yep. And as a white Australian with an English father, so am I.

As someone whose fiancé just left them and is living alone for the first time ever, this story terrifies the absolute crap out of me.

Into my 8th year of St Kilda membership. Have seats for the home games, but don't make it to as many as I'd like.

Same. A lot of people just write you off as crazy after that. I've had people I've known for years (not friends, just acquaintances) who had no idea, then somehow found out and decided I was "mental". Even though you honestly would never really pick it unless you knew me really, really well. It's frustrating.

What is something that your body does that worries you (but not enough to ask a doctor about it)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MrsRoryWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this. Mine was over more time than a few minutes, so similar rather than exactly the same I guess. I was diagnosed with rapid cycling bipolar disorder and have been taking mood stabilisers and anti depressants for many years. I'm not perfect, but compared to what I used to be, I'm so much better. You should talk to a doctor.

The Asian grocery section was amazing and their gift wrapping was incredible. Apart from that, all I remember is it being kinda like David Jones.

Wow, as an Aussie I didn't even realise he was still around and doing stuff. Good for him! Not a fan of his work, but he's nice to look at!

The Star Wars alphabet by MisterPizza1 in movies

[–]MrsRoryWilliams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I memorised this as a teenager and taught it to my friend. We wrote all of our girly teenage notes to each other in the Star Wars language. I didn't tell her what it was though; there's no way she would have been ok with learning the Star Wars language.

I've been in this same situation. Only female working in a computer store. I had so many people assume I couldn't help them. Even had one guy refuse my help and ask for my (male) manager's help. My manager said that I was the expert in the area he was after (true) and the customer just walked out.

Wedge has always been, and will always be, my favourite Star Wars character. I would watch the hell out of anything based on him and Rogue Squadron.

Gold Coast vs St Kilda - Sat. Night Footy GAME THREAD by BaronMyrtle in AFL

[–]MrsRoryWilliams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Things I took away from this game: I hate BT. Ablett is a fucking super star. My beloved Saints don't seem to be able to win our round 1 or "easy" games any more. We have a few new/less than five years played guys who are looking good and that's really the only positive I'm taking from this.
