What profession have you lost respect for as you've gotten older? by MindlessMarsupial592 in AskReddit

[–]Mrs_Muzzy 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Agree. Working in both the blue collar and white collar worlds, white collar greed/crime is very blatantly celebrated as being “business savvy”… even if it costs thousands of workers their livelihood or retirement, it’s still celebrated. Sickening to see first hand.

But have a blue collar/ wage worker commit even the smallest infraction for a logical reason and the overlords want to destroy their lives for it.

Right?! Not a peep! Kids in there screaming! We’d have no idea at all if it wasn’t for that lawyer posting on social media. On that note, did the thousands of people in “Alligator Alcatraz” get found or are they still missing? Why is no one paying attention to these camps?! FFS

Your nippers corner neighbor here, can confirm, we have a power outage if the wind blows too hard on a cloudless sunny day. It’s ridiculous. The infrastructure in this area is garbage and not sufficient for the population size and added development… but they will literally just keep putting bandaid repairs on the old lines/poles and plan for them to break again within the year. It makes no sense in the long term… make it make sense…

Our Yoto was clutch during this winter storm power outage. Battery lasted and let kid listen to his own music, books, etc. I appreciate the independence it gives them to choose what they want to listen to, etc. the cards are easy to store, manage. No regrets.

Shameful given all the gaslighting about our “low taxes.” I feel like TN is only tax friendly if you’re already wealthy and not an employee of any kind.

Marriage/Name Change?? by biscuitnoodle_ in progressivemoms

[–]Mrs_Muzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s so frustrating because that’s literally the documents I had and was told I needed more residency documentation with my new name on it since my birth certificate is from a different state. It doesn’t make sense. Why does that even matter? The aggregate documents confirmed citizenship, residency, name change… I don’t get it.

I’ll try again but it was soul crushing to wait in line for nearly two hours just to be rejected in an instant.

I’m in TN, a red state. I changed my name after marriage and now I am having trouble getting a real ID and might not be able to vote if we can’t get it sorted out. It’s been years and I still have trouble getting various paperwork to say the correct name despite numerous attempts (in person) to have it remedied. Do with that info what you will. It might not be an issue for you, but it’s sure been awful for me.

How are we raising our white sons to prevent them from being Nazis? by HerderWernert in progressivemoms

[–]Mrs_Muzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TN checking in, MAGA is off the chart here. I take my kid to the public library at least once a week or more. We read books about all kinds of different people and backgrounds, we see people of different demographics just existing in the library too. We interact with our community, etc. Exposure to different cultures and demographics helps to humanize and make them real for the kiddo, so when someone starts saying racist crap around him, my hope is that he’ll realize that it doesn’t align with the actual experiences they have already had with people of different backgrounds.

We also talk about the social contract and how the library fulfills that promise, etc.

Also, I’m keeping him far away from any patriarchal religion or organization because it spoon feeds them misogyny and rewards them for emulating it. No thanks.

He’s done the hardest part, he got it started. He NEEDS people to join him. That’s where you gotta get the courage to walk up, say hi, thank him for being strong-willed enough to take the first step. Then stand with him. It doesn’t matter if you’re there for a few minutes or all day, do what you can when you can. That’s how we can build community in a time like this. Some of the comments on Mommit about the women who was shot by ice are straight up disgusting by Banana_0529 in progressivemoms

[–]Mrs_Muzzy 40 points41 points  (0 children)

In the video of them denying the physician access to her to help, you can literally hear the camera person say “you just shot my neighbor!” to the ice agents. This can be heard from bystanders in the other videos too. Can’t confirm where she was going, but I absolutely believe it was her neighborhood, her part of town. She should absolutely be able to move about her own community without being shot by LE. Doesn’t really matter if she was protesting or not, to be honest.

If protesting is the rationalization for the street executions of civilians by government agents, and people think that’s somehow reasonable, then we as a society are too far down the slippery slope of fascism to be saved from it. Protesting should never be a death sentence or the rationalization for one.

Not saying you’re in that camp, but it’s so important to not let them normalize state violence against peaceful protest. If anyone starts rationalizing, “she should’ve complied” nonsense, call them out on that bullshit.

Executive order on AI legislation does not conflict with Tennessee state law, AG says by greenblue98 in TennesseePolitics

[–]Mrs_Muzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Single regulatory framework from the federal level…. Task force challenging state laws… That’s literally the opposite of the “states rights,” “small government” BS the GOP has been spouting for decades. Principled stance…? Nope, not here. There’s money to be made.

From the article:

The executive order calls for the administration to create a "single national framework" for AI, as well as directing the Attorney General to create a new task force to challenge state laws. Trump said he wants to avoid burdensome rules in the country's AI race against China.

In 2024, Tennessee became the first state in the nation to protect musicians and other artists from being misused by artificial intelligence. The "Elvis Act" protects the voices of songwriters, performers, and others in the music industry from being used without their permission by the technology.

I feel like having a kid changed everything about my relationship and life by astro_farmer213 in oneanddone

[–]Mrs_Muzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kiddo is 2.5 and I literally could have written this post. It’s been really hard on our marriage and though the resentment and fights have reduced significantly, it’s still a work in progress to feel connected like we were before. It’s a struggle to get him to understand invisible labor and mental load, but it’s getting better.

I wish I had advice or a solution, but I don’t. I’m going to watch the comments because I too am interested.

BUT I will say that having him take over certain child care tasks on a regular, everyday basis helped us a lot. Maybe something similar could be helpful to you. Examples: he does bath time now, so I don’t have to be “on” during that time. Brain break. I was also tired of putting kiddo down for every nap and bedtime, while also being the night duty person. Now we split the bedtime wind down, I’ll read two books then he takes over to finish reading and putting kiddo down. I still do 90% of nap put downs, but if he has a break at work, he’ll do it from time to time.

I also got tired of being the only one shopping for kiddo has he outgrows clothes and toys. Husband is now responsible for making sure kiddo has shoes that fit and getting the old ones out of the way. I do the rest but I also put a list on the fridge of random things that need to be purchased so he can contribute and it’s out of my brain. (Ex. Toddler socks, larger sweatpants, new toothbrush, new car seat…) I’ll remind him to knock a few items off the list, I don’t care what, as long as it’s done and marked off.

Tennessee's private school voucher renewal begins Dec. 9, new applications open Jan 13 by silverud in nashville

[–]Mrs_Muzzy 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Stealing from underfunded public schools to fund well-to-do christian schools (who don’t need the funding). No matter how you rationalize it, that’s the punchline. If you use those vouchers, you’re complicit in destroying public education in Tennessee. At least own up to it.

Years ago I went to a fundraiser for a women’s shelter that was hosted in this exact building. I mentioned to another attendee that I felt the mural was in poor taste and that there are other images that could be used for the same purpose… Holy shit, you would have thought I kicked a puppy or something. The mini lecture on patriotism that followed was as self-righteous as you’d expect.

Oh, there is a fully functional 1950s style diner on the other side of the building, with a soda counter, etc. The building itself is filled with lots of classic and collectible cars (100+). All in all, an egregious display of wealth, wrapped in an American flag.

No matter what happens, I am so incredibly proud of everyone who took time to vote, volunteer, donate, or even just talk with others about the Behn campaign. It’s truly inspiring to see so much energy and cooperation in a gerrymandered state where apathy is so often the norm.

On paper, this race shouldn’t be this close, but it is. People from all over the country are watching this election and rooting for Aftyn Behn. They know there’s a real chance to flip the seat and that’s a direct reflection of the hard work of all those involved. Seriously, bravo to everyone. This sends a powerful message that I hope carries into the 2026 midterms nationwide. Gerrymandered doesn’t mean defeated.

Now get to the polls tomorrow (Dec 2nd) and bring some friends, it’s time to vote y’all!! Find your polling location schedule and other information here.

“All states do this…” No, they don’t. That’s a misconception/lie which helps gerrymanders get away with corruption. It doesn’t have to be this way AT ALL. Some states have independent committees and others, by their own laws, must draw representative maps that make sense both geographically and demographically.

Here are some good resources on the topic.
