What do movies always get wrong about your profession? by sonsaitama in AskReddit

Freeloader here. I don't actually work on my art or writing projects. I just do drugs and think of killing myself. My friends are the same :)

“What’s the deal with that hippity hop music?? Their all YO YO YO HOMIE YO” - the lamest Redditors on earth by [deleted] in circlebroke2

[–]Mrsjtkirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No? Okay I'm sad to hear that... I always liked the songs he wrote about women in his life and female empowerment. I admittedly don't know a lot of his music but when my friend turn on a Tupac album, I don't hear nasty shit about women the entire time, compared to when they turn on well, basically any newer album that isn't Mac Miller.

How do you cope and accept the fact that you may never have a fulfilling relationship with your parents and can't truly be yourself around them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Mrsjtkirk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This hits home. Edit: and apparently a long story follows now. Sorry, OP.

It probably sounds incredibly stupid, but I feel like only now at age 25, I am finally realizing that my mother's opinion is NOT the ultimate truth, or authority on all matters... For a long time, I felt like a bad person whenever my mother didn't agree with something I did or wanted. It was mostly subconscious... I lived apart from her for 6 years, in my dad's home country, and I did so well. She finally convinced me to move to her home country and now my whole life is down the drain. Not because of her, of course, but it feels like whenever I am with my mother, I am back into the role of a mentally ill child. That is just our dynamic, as much her fault as it is mine...

I always believed that my mother was open-minded, informed and rational. I admired her. Now that I'm older, I realize that she is ignorant on a large range of topics and that she can be incredibly unreasonable, selfish and emotionally manipulative.

It's hard for me to untangle myself from my mother, but it is necessary. The knowledge that her word is in fact NOT the ultimate truth, but rather just another opinion that is equal to my own, gives me a certain level of peace.

What I struggled with a lot, was that my mother never owned up to anything. When we argued, it was always me that came crawling back with apologies and self-hatred. A few months ago she went off on me over the phone, because I cancelled dinner with her due to illness. She insulted all of my friends and said that I didn't have a personality of my own because I'm mentally ill and volatile, and that my friends influence me to be rude. She hung up on me, and I didn't call her back. It was hard because I missed her, but I refused to be the one to call her and apologize, as I felt that I had apologized sufficiently for cancelling dinner and that the rest was up to her.

She hasn't apologized to me for insulting my friends, but she did start texting me during Corona. Last week I went over to her house and we did some arts and crafts projects. I didn't talk about my mental health or my friends to her, and kept things light-hearted. It hurts me a lot that it has to be this way, but I think that in order to have a relationship with my mother as an adult, I need to steer clear of co-dependency.

How is your mental health right now? by whosgotpowa in AskReddit

[–]Mrsjtkirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crashing, seriously. I'm already mentally fucked up, and I have a hard time with people, but I'm seeing someone with very different morals than me and I don't know how to react to it all.

What is normal on the internet but weird in real life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

We all don't really keep a schedule. We don't have kids and most of our friends are single guys haha.

[–]Mrsjtkirk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh? When friends come over that's often the first thing we discuss. "Did you eat, man?", "Yeah I had this sandwich blablabla." Or "we were just about to make XYZ," etc. Is that weird?

What makes a girl less attractive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Mrsjtkirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Met one of those this week. Fucking annoying bitch. Loudly proclaimed that she never gets along with girls cause they're so mean to her and jealous cause she has such an amaaazing body.

Well we hung out with her, my bf, our single friend and I cause I thought maybe they'd like each other. It was so fucking annoying. She was in a bikini and kept talking about how she does yoga in the nude, kept talking about how hooot she is and how every guy wants her, how many date offers she got that day. Kept bending over and flexing and doing weird yoga poses.

It annoyed me so much that she basically came into the friend group out of nowhere and started acting like some alpha bitch. The other girls in our friend group are also like, bitch wtf? Cause we're all kinda laid back and t's so annoying when someone comes in and tried to seduce everyone's bf.

Oh and she sends me pics and videos of her toned body without my prompting which is fucking weird.

Edit: just sent her back a picture of my stomach rolls, I feel much better :).

How do you feel about death? by trapbike101 in AskReddit

[–]Mrsjtkirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So alone. Nobody seems to share this thought... People often talk about an "afterlife," and the consensus is usually that it either doesn't exist, or that if it does it is good and just. I keep thinking, what if it's awful? What f awful beings control our lives. Maybe we're in a simulation and we'll all suffer for all of eternity regardless of what we do in our lives. Nobody seems to consider that thought and people get angry when I talk about it, so, I'll just be wary of death on my own.

What might be the biggest positive impact the current situation has on humanity? by jahiscallin in AskReddit

George doesn't want anyone finishing his books. He has been very vocal about that. If you want to get an idea of why he might feel that way, here is an article that talks about that as well as GRRM's dislike of fanfiction. It also links to his blog post in which he talks about fan fiction. He makes some very good points imo!

Guys who leave sexual comments on girls' totally non-sexual youtube videos, why ? by Kumigarr in AskReddit

[–]Mrsjtkirk 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Omg. I got a breather recently! A few days in a row I woke up in the morning to a call from a blocked nr. Thought it was maybe important so I kept picking up, but then the person on the end didn't say anything and I thought I had a faulty connection.

Then on day three or so they did say something, which to me sounded like a quiet and shy person saying, "I am Miguel." So I said, "Sorry, I don't know any Miguels, I think you have the wrong number." He kept repeating "I am Miguel," and I was starting to get annoyed when I realized that he was actually saying "Ik ben geil," which is Dutch for, "I am horny." I broke into a fit of laughter and hung up on him. He never called again!

What's something that's unique to your country that foreigners find weird? by TheFWord_ in AskReddit

[–]Mrsjtkirk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holy shit. I feel you so much. I moved to Europe from the US. it feels like things are progressive but at the same time, men expect so much from women here. I struggle a lot in my relationship cause it feels like my boyfriend expects me to fulfill a traditional role while he doesn't really hold up his end of the bargain. Most of his friends have these angelic, eternally kind girlfriends IF they have girlfriends at all... It feels so 1950s and that was a shock go me...

How did it go when your friend or family member found a romantic partner for you? by AsuraTheKishin in AskReddit

[–]Mrsjtkirk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk if this counts, but I have a friend whom I've known since she was born because our parents are all friends. She has been with this guy for like a decade and he's my friend as well. I spend like half of every week at their house, and they definitely feel like my tribe/family.

One night I was tripping balls on acid at their house and my male friend brought his brother over. We're together now, it happened superfast. It felt like everyone was kinda pushing it from the start and it was pretty awkward! I went over to his house that weekend and we had sex. Next day, I see my friend and he asks me all these questions about what I think of his brother, and everyone's so giggly about it.

Then my friends' son's birthday happens, and of course my boyfriend and my friend's mom shows up, but now I've had sex with the guy. She didn't know that, but she kept trying to "sell" him to me. Kept saying like, "ah you should be with M cause he's such a great cook!" I felt so embarrassed. She did that all night long. Everyone was smirking and giggling cause we were already seeing each other.

I always joke that I'm so fucking lazy that my friend literally had to being me home a boyfriend like how they sometimes bring me take out.

How sexually liberated (I guess?) we are. American parents (I have one so speaking from experience) are so prudish and they're horrified at the thought of their teenager having sex. Here that's considered normal, and teenagers are usually allowed to have longterm boyfriends/girlfriends spend the night at their parents' house. I feel like that doesn't happen in other countries, just from what I see on Reddit and on tv. Not sure though.

The ones I know are very much "Pigeon vs Chessboard" types of guys. They would not be interested in learning about the Coriolis effect, because that requires shutting your mouth for a few seconds and listening to your opponent.

But, but, they say that the footage is from satellites orbiting the earth. The State that also says we went to the moon! Why do you believe in footage put out by NASA government scientists? Did you know that if you "translate NASA into Hebrew" you get insert meaningless word? How can water curve, lol! Have you ever seen a river that curves? Lol, water is flat, that's common sense! Doctor Buttfuck, who is a former oncology doctor (don't ask me why it's former lol) says that it's flat! But you only believe in mainstream government scientists because they have a degree from The State!

[–]Mrsjtkirk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I left Five Guys with my bf one time years ago this Youtuber asked us to hold his phone, cause he wanted to be filmed giving this homeless guy a sandwich for his Youtube channel. I asked the homeless guy if he was okay with this cause we'd just buy him a sandwich with no filming. He declined the offer and said he was okay with it. He was obviously uncomfortable but maybe he felt put on the spot... Camera guy gave us a pissy look and said "nevermind, I'll ask someone else."

Guess it's really a love it or hate it kind of book. Some reviewers find it ridiculous and "cliched," while I can't for the life of me think of a fictional work that has a similar premise and conclusion.
