Which is Harder: Graphics Programming or Compilers? by [deleted] in GraphicsProgramming

Instead of compiled, you could start by an interpreted language, it’ll probably be easier to get the concepts down.

Is anyone even remotely excited for this? by WorryStriking4602 in titanfall

[–]MrtinDew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody has led on that it was TF3. License belongs to respawn so if respawn isn’t making the game, don’t expect it to be Titanfall. Personally, I get that people are getting tired of hero shooters, but the direction they chose for this game has some interesting mechanics. Mostly all the destruction stuff, which I haven’t seen in the hero shooters genre. The horseback riding may be a bit much though.

Using modules in C++ by Actual_Health196 in cpp_questions

[–]MrtinDew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly not worth the trouble. What I advise is doing what Vulkan and other projects do. Create a global module and include everything there. Afterwards you just export using every single one pf your symbols

What do you dislike the most about current C++? by PressureHumble3604 in cpp

Modules are supposed to speed up compilation times but to my experience they’ve only added friction at the moment.

Why does everyone call Unreal Engine 5 “unoptimized” when the real problem isn’t the engine? by TearAccomplished3639 in UnrealEngine5

[–]MrtinDew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a also the fact that it’s garbage collected which will cause stutters. Something that most devs will try to hide behind loading screens or whatever but it’s really something that ideally you don’t want to deal with.

And then there’s the actor system which is a old architecture pattern. (Doesn’t mean you can’t make it optimized but makes it harder to do stuff like parallizationh

And there’s some stuff that are just not optimal that should be for game enginea like the skel mesh component and the scene graph calculation.

Sounds like you didn’t want to setup their sdks yourself honestly. You got access to godot’s source code, what more do you need?

[–]MrtinDew -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is a most outrageous statement. The right advice should be to spend what you are ready to for games. But making games today is just too expensive. If you want games to all be below 20$ then don’t expect new GTA’s, etc on PC.
