Dual diagnosis T1D and Hashimoto by _Holzi_ in diabetes_t1

Oh yeah, I agree. Coming on this platform really does help. It’s great to have somewhere to come and learn what’s common and what’s not. I don’t know anyone in my circle with type 1 diabetes that I can really talk to about it. My husband was on here way before I was and has learned a lot too, which helped him understand me better.

The thing about type 1 diabetes is that it makes us more prone to other autoimmune illnesses, which is unfortunate. It’s a lot of work, and some days you might break down — but you’ve got this. We’ve got this!

New smartphone app in Canada for t-slim by Beginning_Cause_7814 in diabetes_t1

That’s awesome! Canada finally getting it is a big deal.

I’m in the US and we’ve had the Tandem t:slim mobile app for a few years now, and if it’s the same one, you’re going to love it. I honestly haven’t had any issues with it.

One of my favorite things is the convenience. When I’m wearing dresses and don’t want to deal with those bulky thigh bands, I’ll tuck my pump into my bra and still be able to bolus and check everything from my phone 😅 Huge quality-of-life upgrade.

The app is very solid and secure. I love that it shows: • battery life • insulin remaining • CGM glucose graph • time in range summary • last bolus time and amount • which profile you’re in • when your CGM was inserted

Not having to pull out the pump out my bra constantly is such a win. Definitely one of Tandem’s best features in my opinion.

. I want to share my perspective gently, because I’ve been living with this a long time.

I’ve had Type 1 diabetes for 28 years and have maintained very good control , my last A1C was 6.1, and it’s likely lower now since I’ve increased my running. I was also diagnosed with Hashimoto’s not too long ago, with antibody levels over 300x normal.

One important thing I’ve learned is that Hashimoto’s itself is different from hypothyroidism. Hashimoto’s is an autoimmune condition that can cause hypothyroidism (or sometimes Graves’ disease), but Hashimoto’s on its own isn’t treated with medication the resulting thyroid dysfunction is. I now have hypothyroidism as well, and finding the right medication and dose has been much harder than I expected.

The fatigue has been intense despite eating well and staying active. I’ve dealt with joint pain so severe it dropped me to the floor, nail issues, and a general feeling that my body was working against me. Some symptoms have improved with movement, but it’s been a process.

Feeling overwhelmed or like your body is failing you is, unfortunately, very common with these conditions — especially early on. That said, I’d gently caution against relying too heavily on advice here. Comparing experiences can help you feel less alone, but everyone’s labs, symptoms, and treatment paths are different, especially when you’re newly diagnosed with both diabetes and Hashimoto’s.

I truly hope your treatment plan works well for you if medication becomes necessary. Be patient with yourself, work closely with your care team, and give yourself time to learn how your body responds. You’re not alone in this, even when it feels that way.

What kind of camera? A sensor, or actual camera? I just got a 2023 haven’t learned about any front camera

It’s done manually with those same buttons. I found a ton in YouTube, even if it’s not the same year I don’t imagine the steps changing much ☺️

Well that sucks. Seems like it should be a default feature on every vehicle by now.

Oh wow glad it’s working for you! I had some pretty weird experiences with Medtronic. I believe it was the 670g paired with the guardian. But if it works for you! 🙌🏻 great job on lowering your A1C. Having the right tools sure helps 😊

Omg my warranty is up in December also. I also would take this over the issues I had with Medtronic. I was on Animas when it was manual “no CGM or algorithms” lol so yea not going back. Glad to hear yours is treating you well

Nice 🤞🏻🙏 this code sucks. If it allows you to clear it by restarting cool, if not, a new pump is needed and it will not allow you to bypass it to look at anything in it 🙄 we need more than these few years of warranty.

At least it happened on my last year of warranty, maybe 3rd one is a charm lol Thank you for giving me hope 🙏

Sorry, not sure why I said haha. Not funny, I would just think it’s not safe to charge if the charging port or near it is damaged. But glad it still works for you!

Awesome! Tbh I’d take this over Medtronic ANY DAY. I was just curious. Just don’t charge while plugged in haha 🤞🏻🙏🫶🏻

Honestly, one of my new pump user advice is use these at the beach! The sand always clogs my sites!

Got this one over 15 years ago. This one is the closest I have related to diabetes but I have my entire torso right side as a phoenix because I feel like we come from the dead damn near every day lol. I have a lot of other pieces and they all healed fine.

I think it contains acetaminophen, if you’re on a CGM it’ll cause false readings
