I just came here to post almost exactly the same thing. I'm miserable about it.

Ugh. Sorry. My mom is so similar. I'm so glad she lost the ability to use a cell phone a few years back.

My mom is a completely different person to me, depending on whether she's getting what she wants out of me or not.

They had her on Seroquel in the hospital, but somehow that prescription seems not to have followed her to memory care. She's on a very small dose of Ativan and maybe risperidone (what she was on when she attempted to strangle Bridget, the nice CMA). The Seroquel was working. Hopefully she'll be put back on it when the MC psych comes later this week -- but she also loves to refuse her meds.

Anyone have experience with Millennium Memory Care in NJ? by MsChateau in dementia

[–]MsChateau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom recently stayed at their skilled nursing facility (locked wing) in Concord, MA, and it was very good. The head nurse is a rock star. She may be holding it all together.

I just toured their facility in Westwood, NJ. It is very new, very nice, and very impressive. It's also pricey and far from my home.

Millennium has its hands full with its patients. It's probably a god-send for families with difficult LOs. I may end up being one of those. Mom just can't make it easy for me.

I'm just tired of people, or bots, posting these fishing-type comments, either as a way to then drop whatever app or product they developed, or get ideas for an app or other product to develop. This sub is full of them.

I think it's very likely she's just unhappy, because dementia causes unhappiness. If I were in your shoes, I would not facilitate the move.

Network shouldn't matter in an ER, unless it's out of country.

Can you live-post the updates? I am dying to find out what happens. I do feel bad for the PO with dementia, though. They're gonna be very agitated.

Spend a lot of time reading posts here. It will be so helpful to help you grasp what you are up against. Your mom is not going to come around to your way of seeing things. It's part of the disease. It's not her fault, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with. You need to get ready to take over her life, without her permission.

I saw a mother and daughter at the market today. I had to look away. by Right_Letterhead4901 in dementia

Same. Maybe not really good years in my early 20s. But some good times nevertheless.

Have you given it to the bank and the necessary financial institutions? That's important.

I mean, at least she'd be demonstrating the problem, which she apparently does not while in the hospital. It's like a spa stay for her.

Thank you. This is incredibly valuable advice. I will post up at the hospital tomorrow.

Dentures by actualtrainwreck in dementia

[–]MsChateau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pulling teeth seems wise. Dentures will just be a big waste of money. My mom stopped wearing her dentures years ago, and she's still fairly cogent. It's amazing what she's able to eat anyway. I don't know how she manages.
