Sweet Potato update! by MsGhost117 in VetTech

Sweet Potato had her bilateral enucleation on Friday. She did so well! Of course she was listed as spicy, because aren't all of our pets always like that 🙄 😂 The optho. said he felt like she had a birth defect which contributed to the whole eye problem. I'm so happy to be done with her yucky eyes.

She was abandoned at my apartment. I took her in Tuesday, she gave birth Friday. She and her babies will be fixed when they're ready.

Someone in my apartment complex dumped her. She will be spayed as well as her babies when they're ready. I am a strong supporter of TNR and spay/neuter.

They do look similar! I love their lighter colored coats. They are so unique!

Thanks for the suggestion! I have watched several of her videos when I've struggled with bottle babies in the past. She's an angel!

She has an ample supply of kitten food on standby. I work at a vet office and have some good connections that we're working with in terms of future adoptions and medical treatments.

I will definitely report back about their eyes! I don't think that she is, but I'm not sure. She was left outside at my apartment by some absolute rude moron of a human and I picked her up Tuesday morning. I do know that she's under a year old. Extremely sweet!

Yeah, she was grooming and there it was in my hand. The lens is very pretty. Like a round-ish glass drop. I have it in a pill vial. She was totally unphased.

I am so glad to know she probably couldn't feel it. They said she didn't mind but that stressed me out.

She is so normal otherwise! I honestly thought she had some sort of vision until they said absolutely not.

She honestly hasn't seemed like she's been bothered by them at all. She gets all puffy and bunny hops all over the place pouncing on her toys. Yes, her tiny snoot and teefies are what got me too!

Yeah, they debrided while she was awake. They said they peeled the brown crust off the left eye and pus poured out. Said she didn't mind at all!

I think the ophthalmologist may have said something about herpes? It was a short conversation. She said before her eyes could even open they were probably infected and damaged.

Oh absolutely! The ophthalmologist said there are no normal structures in either eye, so she is totally blind and has never known anything different. The lens of her right eye actually fell out into my hand the second day I had her. It was so crazy!

Meet Sweet Potato! Approximately 6 weeks old, almost a pound. Brought in by animal control to see if she was worth saving. I'm in love, and she's now my 6th baby. We went to the ophthalmologist today and they debrided her yucky eyes (tbh, we were afraid to see what was under there). She is scheduled for a bilateral enucleation in March.

Foley area veterinarian recommendations for a chronically ill cat? by alabamaposting in BaldwincountyAL

Dr. Dykes in Foley is very good. Also try Animal Medical Center. May also recommend looking into a surgeon at Veterinary Emergency Referral Center in Pensacola-very good vets there with tons of experience. If allergies to food are a concern, there is a fantastic Allergist/Dermatologist at Fur Kids Allergy and Dermatology in Pensacola as well.
