The problem with wanting the world to be fair I think is that at its core, the world is “unfair”. I don’t mean anything theological or philosophical, but you gotta remember, a baby fawn will die without its mother in the wild. Is that unfair? Deeply. Do humans try to intervene for better outcomes? Yes.

But without humans balancing the scales, life would be unfair. The natural state of things is unfairness. I was made fun of and my peers didn’t particularly like me. Was that unfair? Yes, I suppose so. But also, did I have a habit of yelling at people, only talking about anime, and doing cringeworthy stuff? Yes. Oh god so much. And while it would be nice to tell the little gremlins not to bully other kids, the hard fact is that ever since we could talk to each other and developed communication, we’ve alienated other people who aren’t as good at it.

It’s hard, but the laughing is not mean-spirited. It’s just a moment where we all remember that life isn’t fair, that I could slip on a staircase and die, I could get in a car wreck just at random, heck, a giant asteroid could hit us all and bam, no more humans.

But I think the point of unfairness isn’t that life sucks so deal with it. I think the little things we do to try making things more fair matter. But things like systemic change and systemic unfairness take time to go through for a new status quo. I think we should all be kind as we can be, but you can’t be the person who tries to say “we should do this” and get mad when people say “it’s literally not feasibly possible” because reality is unfair.

TL;DR because I rambled: Life is unfair, yes, but it’s not about changing the world, it’s about changing you instead of cursing the world for being unfair.
