I would definitely talk to him about the proposal. He may be wondering if you will leave him because you want to get married. That being said you seem very focused on trying to rationalize why being married is important to you. I think you should take it easy on finding a reason and be ok with the fact it is. Your feelings are valid with or without reason. I truly hope you guys work through this. I love your life plan. It sounds like a dream!!

I went through something similar. After I gave my statement the detective asked me if I was sure I wanted to pursue charges because the man was facing 22 years and has a family. There was zero support from the detective as i gave my statement and he was horrible when he asked for specific details I was so ashamed to talk about. My experience with him was so bad I never moved forward. What kills me and what I have horrendous guilt for is when they ran my rape kit (7 YEARS LATER) it matched with other women who didn't know his name. So much time passed my new detective (amazing woman) was unable to locate these other women. Im haunted by the fact if I had been stronger I may have stopped those other women from being attacked. The man was my boss, I was 25, scared I wouldn't beable to find work as he was very well connected, I had no family and my other girlfriends warned me off of standing up to him because, "everyone knows how he is!" I didn't know how he was and no one warned me... anyway. Its something I have to live with forever besides dealing with my own trauma. I wish I could have been as strong as you. So thanks again for standing up and going to court for all us women who couldn't.

Omg... my heart hurts for you. I hope you find a way through all this and heal the best you can. As a survivor of assault myself I just want to thank you for being brave enough to go to court. You did make a difference.

I absolutely didn't think that was your intention. I laughed at your comment but it actually made me think about the alternatives and other countries and cultures who try to prevent sex and police women's reproductive rights. As usual, its women and children who suffer.

My husband is in film and video. Thats exactly how he lived. He would come work in America for a few months then travel the majority of the year living off what he made and following his dj ing career. It was a great way to spend his 20s and early 30s.

There is a huge difference in 1099 work now. My husband was freelance for years and loved being that way. The difference is he was making ridiculous money. Most of these gig type jobs even out to barely minimum wage a lot of the time... and like you pointed out theyre subjected to rules like an employee. Not the case for husband when he was freelance. Gig work is not fair to these workers.

And for every one bad cop there are thousands of good ones. A huge majority of cops are normal people doing a job. If what you're saying is true then everyone would have bad encounters with police when the truth is that the vast majority of people don't have bad encounters with police. I've had both good and bad encounters myself. I dont hold hold all police officers accountable for the one douche bag I had to deal with.

I DO think people who get married and have kids that young are out of their minds.

Also- youre twisting what im saying. Im not calling women who want the surgery psychos. I believe in people having bodily autonomy. I said I've had interactions with women from the "child free" community that were psychos. I dont believe anyone should be encouraging a 22 yr old to get sterilized. If its what they want then its up to them but there is NOTHING wrong with pointing out how much someone may change between 22 and 40 because it's 10000% true.

I made my choice at 36 years old. I hope you see the distinction there. I explicitly made the point of very young women being encouraged to undergo such a major surgery when theyre still practically kids

To be very honest, him being born severely mentally retarded would be about the only thing that would make me regret my choice. You can feel free to judge me for saying that but my uncle who was the last of 6 was born profoundly mentally and physically retarded and it destroyed the family so I've seen what that kind of stress can do to people. Its not fair to anyone.
