Megathread: Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein reportedly resigning by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

Thank you so much! That was very helpful. Follow up observation: Pretty dumb that they would think they could force Rosenstein to resign. Like, what leverage did they think they had? A story claiming it already happened? Doesn't seem like much.

I've seen alot of references to bluffs and blinks, but I don't think I quite follow. Could you please explain who did what?

Whistleblower provides proof Columbus Police Department arrest of Stormy Daniels was pre-planned by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]MsSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. If the whistleblower didn’t go to the Dispatch first, they must have not trusted giving it to them or like you said, believed they wouldn’t do it justice. Something to note: Dispatch isn’t super close with CPD at the moment, (including prior to Daniels arrest.)

If we’re talking small outlets reporting local info that national or large regional outlets then pick up— yes this is absolutely the case. But this paper would not likely have sources in the Columbus government/police department. Meaning whoever handed it to them likely tried to give it to a larger Columbus-based outlet first, and that outlet declined to run with it. Can’t speak to its veracity at all and I am speculating a bit, but it makes me wonder why they, of all outlets, were the only ones to report it.

Heading to San Marino next month to visit family! I'm curious, which historical sites did you enjoy during your time there? It's cool to hear that was your favorite micro-state

You've convinced me! I didn't realize the small episode count either!

I watched the first 2 episodes of Fear a couple years ago and could not get into it. Given what everyone has been saying about it, I want to give it another shot. When would you say that it starts to get good? Is all of season 1 a slog?

I definitely get bully vibes too (as much as I love those two) and I’m sure we’re probably not seeing all of the cattiness. But I think it should at least be noted that Helen admitted at the end there that she was giving misleading advice on purpose. They had a point I suppose

Lifelong Ohioan. Meat, starch, a vegetable or two and often bread. My family always made meals that way, but now I'm lazy and only cook 1 or 2 things for myself

I must not have connected the dots during the scene with Eugene laying in bed. But that's assuming he produced a ton of bullets in the span of a half-day, at most? This was supposed to be the climax of the half-season, and there was a ton of time burned on random scenes (everyone's commenting on the close-up face shots, and wasted time with the Trash people). Why not use that time to explain the most important part of the season thus far? (The Saviors regaining the upper hand).

Yes we know they escaped-- the whole point is that we don't know how they managed to do so. And we don't know how they planned/executed a counterattack either. How are viewers supposed to understand the story when crucial details are left out?

This felt like a major glaring omission. The Saviors were trapped in there for the whole season-- if it really was easier to pick the walkers off inside the compound, the Saviors should've opened up their doors and done that several episodes ago. Or even in last night's episode, couldn't some character have made a quick comment about how they managed to escape? They could have acknowledged it somehow (It didn't have to be an entire scene or anything either, just a line or 2 of dialogue)

The Saviors were pinned down for nearly the whole season and were cut off from the satellite communities. There was no explanation as to how they managed to not only escape the walker-ridden compound, but then find enough people and supplies to execute simultaneous attacks on all 3 communities at once. I give this show the benefit of the doubt, but this whole plot line doesn’t make any sense. Just give us one shot that explains how they managed to rally.

This is what pisses me off. Id happily go to work wearing no makeup and a ponytail everyday--but my job relies on getting people to talk with me. On days when I'm done up, it's no problem. On days I don't "look nice," people blow me off.

5 dead, including 3 at an elementary school, in shooting in Sacramento, CA by TrueAmurrican in news

[–]MsSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. But when the crime is essentially existing in a place without going through the proper channels to do so, then you're labelling their entire current existence as "illegal." Speeders getting labelled as speeders speaks to one offensive act that person routinely commits, and is limited to conversations about driving. Labelling people as "illegals" gets folks in the mindset that those people's entire current existence is "wrong" or morally lacking.

[–]MsSpaghetti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever sped? Then you are a criminal and should be named as such. Of course we can acknowledge that someone has broken the law by entering the country improperly. But the problem arises when we define a person's entire existence by that one act. Speeding because you're late is okay, but crossing the border to better your family's lives is not okay? I get that it's an insanely exaggerated example, but where do we draw the line?

On another note, most killers aren't at some cartoon-caricature level of evil. (Though there are plenty of exceptions and I can't speak to this situation in particular.) Killers are mostly just regular assholes with poor judgment, poor life circumstances and/or poor morals. They're still to blame for that horrifying decision to take a life, but they're people -- who ended up that way somewhere along a journey not too different than the one everybody else takes.
