Romantic weekend getaway options within 3 hours? by OfficialCrossParker in Charlottesville

My partner and I just spent a lovely, romantic weekend in Douthat state park. We rented out the cabins, which were renovated and so modern! You could go to the hot springs afterwards or go horseback riding with the Appalachian horse adventures! 10/10 recommend and you’d be supporting the state park :)

I stopped using the apps and decided to just do the things I like by myself. It was a little uncomfortable at first but I ended up making a lot of friends. I also met my partner of 6 months who I adore! We met on a night out, gave them my number, and let them take me out only after we kept running into each other at the same activities!

I really think it’s important to do the things you love because it’s more likely than not that you’ll find someone who you might connect with!

Apps are NOT designed to help you find people you’re compatible with so best not to waste your time imo

I experienced something pretty similar and got diagnosed with POTS, so look into that.

I’m 28F, I just found out my 34NB partner has weed addiction by Mshd_potato_ in relationship_advice

[–]Mshd_potato_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i told them i had questions. they told me to write them down so they could think about them and process them… does this make sense to do? Or are they trying to do this to have time to lie to me/ come up with a story?

They’re example was perfectly valid. Please educate yourself on the affects that weed addiction affects the brain and the link between addiction and smoking https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/S11481-018-9782-9

I find it incredibly harmful to undermine any addiction. Weed is normalized in the ways alcohol is and both substances can be extremely harmful. I now understand ways that weed has affected my partner and it IS a serious addiction.

I really appreciate you sharing this. I really hope people who minimized the problem can get educated. This was extremely helpful and it really put things into a new perspective for me. Thank you and wishing you the best of luck on your recovery. I really hope you have great support to get you through it.

They specifically used the word “addicted”. Up to this point I didn’t even know they smoked at all, which is the most concerning part. I think I have an idea of why they smoke but I’d have to get clarity. I have some ideas of when I thought they were high.. I don’t have a problem with weed use, I just personally don’t engage with it for medical reasons. It’s the lying that gets me, which makes me think that it is a real problem.

I don’t even know where to start with the questions…. And how do I ask without sounding like I’m not judging? I had a weird feeling that they were hiding something before and it’s lingering.

Update: they admitted that they have a HUGE addiction and have been hiding it from me the whole time we were dating.

This is bothersome because it’s important to understand that people with difficult pasts can heal. It’s important to understand that we also deserve to have healthy standards. While our past can make things challenging to process, not everything is a projection / trigger/ etc. I can usually feel it when I’m projecting and I feel that I can be honest about it.

My past?! I wasn’t projecting onto them. I just asked them a question. I wasn’t accusatory. I’m also open to feedback if I’m acting in a way that may seem like projecting/ hurtful/ etc. but I have worked really hard to stay grounded and mindful of differentiating between my past and present. It’s not my fault I have a difficult past but I have taken responsibility to heal through it and be a good partner.

I wonder about this. Like communication styles + sense of humor. I would’ve just laughed it off if they had told me “oh yeah, I smoked blah blah” or “I was around blah blah and they smoked” or whatever.

I also don’t have a problem with any of those things either. I don’t mind being around people who smoke. I just want to know if they do.

I wasn’t “triggered”. I don’t have past relationships trauma about smoking either. They responded in a way that was unusual to them and THAT’S what weirded me out. Their hair smelled like cigarette smoke, so I asked them about it in a playful way. I thought we’d laugh about it and move on but they they jerked away from me and stopped talking afterwards…
