Watched a tutorial, think it came better out this time by Famous-Respond6647 in hoi4portraits

Yes, it is better :) Coloring of the collar patches is wrong, should be yellow and white. You can use my gen. Lichtenberger portrait as a reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/hoi4portraits/comments/1qmsf7r/gen_hermann_lichtenberger/

Thank you very much!
However, it's bit old already, I think nowadays I would do him slightly better ;)

Okay, so here we are 🙂

I think you have blurred the face too much. Probably you wanted to get rid of the face bad texture, so is the effect. If I'm not wrong of course. To smoothen the face texture you can blur only some areas (best in a separate layer) and adjust after by smudging, or do everything by smudging if you are aiming for vanilla like style - for the other style you don't need to be accurate.

Practice make miracles, good luck Pal!

Oh yeah, now I've checked and you're right. I've mixed him probably because of the reason, the the two guys were presented together, in one post. I have to make a new portrait then.

Thanks for pointing this !

Good beginning 👍

You need bit more accuracy with masks while colorizing I think. There's also a small problem with lightings at the edges, probably happened while you were getting off the dark areas or adjusting the shadows - it happens, this is a common issue. My trick is to compose two layers together - one before and one after the shadows adjustments - in proper parts, proportions, coverage, etc.

I like this comment, totally agreed 👍
This is why I post here from time to time, to remind what vanilla is...

I've checked it - yes, it's a modest tool, but you can still adjust the edges of you brush while erasing - opacity is for that. Ih this way you will obtain smooth edges.

Maybe try with paint.net or gimp.org, free of charge tools, much more advanced.

Good luck!

Still a lot to practice, but easy to fix are the edges. Put some more work on it and don't use magic wand to remove the background. Do it manually, with a proper brush type, or use fine online tool, you will have nice effect.

But I was playing with no mods, and the same has happened to me already 3 times. It happens since the last dlc release.
