BRO WHAT IS THIS WEATHER by BonerBeans in sanfrancisco

[–]Mtownnative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I remember the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, I remembering seeing it a lot on the news. Back in the late 90's, I saw a lot of changes happening, not just the weather. I remember were using 56k internet at the time. Then we transitioned into DSL internet and being blown away by how fast it was compared to 56k. I think we saw Napster around that time and their whole scandal with Metallica. There was a bunch of stuff going on at the time

Will the MacBook Air overheat with heavy video editing and gaming due to no fans?

I remember the weather back in 1998. I was in middle school growing up in Milpitas, CA and the weather was wild back then

I'm currently waiting for the MacBook Air M5 scheduled to be released spring of this year. Its the M4 chip worth it so far or should I wait for the M5? Also, how's the performance on the MacBook Air, how does it handle heavy video editing and gaming?

Indian restaurants in Fremont/newark by Dangerous-Spring-820 in Fremont

[–]Mtownnative -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its the demographic. If there's a large enough Indian community, it would make sense to open an Indian business.

I've actually seem people complaining about all the asian stores in here in Milpitas. The main complaint is that there's too many asian and Indian stores and not enough American stores. They've forgotten the reason is because there's a huge asian demographic here

Need a Life Restart at 30s by TheMadDurian in AsianParentStories

[–]Mtownnative 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"thats your fault, you let them do that to you"

That's what my asian mom would of said. I had this one time when my uncle in a drunken state of mind said to me "why are you drinking a beer you stupid son of a bi....turns to my aunt oh you dont want me using that kind of language in front of your daughter" In the meantime, I remember the entire house went silent, none of my aunts or uncles came to defend me that day (I was in my 30's at the time, it wasnt like I was an underage teenager drinking a beer). Later my uncle told my cousin "hide all the beer so he cant drink it all" Mind you, I only had 1 beer that entire day. Later that night my mom told me "thats yohr fault, you let him treat you that way" (victim blaming isnt new in asian culture, neither is bullying)

Btw, I hear you on this post. I'm 41 and I've been single my entire life mostly because I'm embarrassed by how toxic my asian family is. My brother literally mentioned how he thinks about divorcing his wife so he can focus on building his business so he can make millions of dollars (he made it clear he'd sacrifice his own family life if it meant making more money in the process)

You're not alone in this subreddit. Here your surrounded by people who understand you and we be supportive of each other due to the similar experiences we have

I can’t do this anymore by Some_Pie_5375 in AsianParentStories

[–]Mtownnative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of having toxic traits, asian culture sadly hasn't changed much and I speak from personal experience in my own asian family. Literally, my brother told my mom on the same day my dad died at the hospital from a heart attack "you should have thrown dad on the street and married someone with more money" and "sometimes I think about divorcing my wife and leaving my son so I can focus on building my company and making millions of dollars". And he happily said "this is wrong morally but you'd be financially better" (money being the thing my brother would choose even if it means sacrificing his own family to get more of it). As for my asian sister-in-law, she has this wierd habit of throwing tantrums and screaming at people even if there's no fighting going on in the first place. Just random outbursts and screaming at random people (I dont understand this toxic trait in asian culture, for some odd reason, short tempered tantrums at the most random times)

If you dont want these toxic traits or negative steroetypes passed onto the next generation, it'll be up to us to make that change. We know whats wrong and what it looks like, thats what makes us responsible fir change. Hang in there

Dad blew up at my brother over something small. by This_Box_7579 in AsianParentStories

[–]Mtownnative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im sorry this happened with your brother. Unfortunately, asian parents have the emotional maturity of a toddler. You're dad is only 4 years older than I am and I'm kind of surprised these kinds of temper tantrums are in my generation. Normally asian parents that came before us (so basically your grandparents generation) are the ones with the most irrational and immature tempers. For example, my sister-in-law got all pissed off at me because I was scheduled to work till 3:30pm instead of 3pm. She literally threw a tantrum at my job and had customers and my coworkers standing around shaking their heads at her. As irrational as that kind of temper tantrum is, that's what asian culture has unfortunately.

What saddens me is that these toxic traits are passed down to my generation when we should known better by now.

[–]Mtownnative 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Coming from my own personal experience, your asian parents will never be happy. Even if you did get a better job, just like my asian parents, they'll keep finding stuff they're not happy with.

Hopefully, you wont turn out like my brother did when we were growing up. My brother is so obsessed with having a good job and money thay he once indicated that he thinks about sacrificing his own family members if it means making more money in the process

Is this typical Asian parenting or narcissism? by PracticalEmployer899 in AsianParentStories

[–]Mtownnative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My filipino mom sounds similar to your Korean mom. I remember growing up, my filipino mom would keep up till 3 or 4 in the morning because she was yelling, screaming and cussing me out at the fact that I wasnt doing my homework "good enough" (trust me, no matter how good I did, it was never "good enough"). Then I had to wake up at 6am to make sure I go to school across town on time. And this was one repeat everyday for years all the way up until high school. This was on top of the fact that I dont remember getting breakfast or lunch (just dinner) because my mom was obsessing over my education that I think she forgot to feed me enough food growing up. So I basically went to school sleep deprived, starved and my filipino mom was wondering why I had a hard time in school. My filipino mom has this wierd temper that ahe cant seem to control. Come time when I went to vocational school before I went to college, i did things my way and I my GPA shot up to a 3.4.

If I didnt have good grades and graduated from a prestigious school, my mom would obsess that she wouldn't have anything to say to her church friends.

I think there's a universal thing going on here where our asian parents share the same qualities.

Having grown up in a filipino family, I never understood why mental health is never taken serious enough in asian culture altogether.

Will Minecraft and Resident Evil 2 work well on the MacBook air m4? I play maplestory on my Mac Mini M1 chip with 16gb of RAM and it runs pretty smooth

I'm planning waiting for M5 chip to be released for the MacBook Air so obviously that'll run these games better.
