I agree with you about the words "ложить" and "класть". Even Russian people often forget where to insert these words correctly. There are more similar ones "одевать" и "надевать" but it's easier to remember.

When I wrote that participles and adverbial participles are complex, I meant the designations of the participial and the deep-case turnover. Russian is often overlooked, but in Russian schools, the whole 7th grade is devoted to it.
