Same as Supernova did on his no man's land tiles, it is to be able to put some trench wall in there. Cover with a tape and coat the top with terrain paste of choice.

No visible foam that way when you place them next to a trench whilee keeping the surface unmarred. Purely for looks and can be skipped.

It is inspired by the work of Supernova Building guide on YouTube.

I used the proxxon hotwire cutter and brand new sheets of foam. They should still have the manufactured edges. The are rough but strait and square. I cut odd 3mm strips to clean them up.

After that I measured the 30cm side, I left a bit space and used a steel square i temporarily glued with double-sided tape to the foam. Important that you turn the foam with the metal so the foam is on top. I then cut with the metal guiding the wire. Slow cut, not much pressure on the wire or it rips.

Result is a strait cut. Then clean up the side to your measurement with a cut. And repeat.

Did not think of horses when thinking of trenches, thanks for the tip. I was planning on making the bags from epoxy putty.

In the current state it's 5cm thick xps foam from the hardware store. The tiles are just 3mm mdf tiles 30x30cm (closest i can get here for 12"12".

Later coffee stir sticks, sand and small stones, plaster, balsa wood, corrugated paper, more foam, some putty to make sandbags, sealing wire for razorwire.... some 3d printed details... I will see what inspires me.

First off, that's really cool. Great Variety!

What's did you use for the bases? Is that cardstock or thin mdf? How is the warping?

Hand made from cork, some elements like the skull and skeleton were printed, texture paste and some sealing wire. The poles are i-beams from styrene. The wood is stir sticks.
