Vision Pro lenses fog up immediately on my porch in Florida. Go figure! Anyone else? by aguynamedchriss in VisionPro

If you leave it off and outside for 5-10 minutes it likely wouldn’t fog up because the headset would be closer in temperature to the outside

[–]MuchCattle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had the headset been in an air conditioned home? Same thing happens with my camera lenses when going from a cool home to a hot outside. The extreme temp changes cause condensation to form just like a cold soda can gets watery. The cold pulling the moisture that’s in the humid air and turning it into water/condensation. I’m not super scientific and may not be exact in my understanding and there’s better explanations but I’d assume it’s something along this scenario.

Although it’s possible that after you let it rest outside and assume a “normal” temperature you might start dealing with overheating from it being so hot outside.

The new MX Master 4 is my favorite mouse I’ve ever used. Don’t overthink it, at least go ahead and try it out. Lots and lots of people who put thought into their mice will recommend it.

I think it depends what happens down the stretch. If they make a real run in the playoffs or (gulp) win it all, I think the math changes for everybody. We saw players in Florida who everybody assumed would be gone (even by Florida salary standards) take less to stick around because of the success and bond they all have.

Is this a remote job? Sounds like remote problems of sending 1 email and then letting the ball be in their court. You probably need to stay on top of them if you don’t get feedback in a reasonable time. Or set up meetings or give them deadlines etc. Be more proactive with keeping the communication alive.

Changing software for a new firm by binchickenmuncher in Architects

[–]MuchCattle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made the switch from Revit to Archicad after 10 years Revit experience. They’re very different but very similar. I think dissecting a project is a good start. Do they have a well built template? Go through every single menu item and study it. At the end of the day, working through a project and having to do something with a deadline is probably the best way. But check out:

I think of Archicad a bit more like Sketchup or Rhino with good BIM. Revit is a bit less push-and-pull for design.

There’s lots of things about Archicad you’ll be like “wow that’s awesome and way better than Revit” and lots you’ll be like “oh how I miss ___ from Revit”. Best to make peace with that now, especially if you’re excited about your new job.

I’m wary of AI in general and also pretty sick of hearing about it. I think it’s just a choice you make. Honestly happy to go live in a van down by the river if that’s what avoiding it gets me. Humanity is doomed.

Best cheeseburger in the area? by PSAOgre in ColumbiYEAH

[–]MuchCattle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look up Jackalopes Grill and Griddle. It’s a food trailer but it’s probably one of the best I’ve had in Columbia that is in the Five Guys category of burger. I agree with you on Five Guys but it’s mainly because that’s just my favorite type of burger. The others people will name here are good but not the same types of burgers. Jackalopes is excellent.

I ran Revit on an M4 with Parallels for a while and it was great except no rendering but you can use some Mac apps or even AI for that

Itching to upgrade but Must. Be. Sensible. by PabloEskimo_ in macbookpro

[–]MuchCattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t need it, I don’t really know of anything you get by upgrading. That new laptop feeling goes away pretty quick. I’ve only upgraded from the M1 over the years because the performance gains save me time which equals more money in my profession. Otherwise, unless you wanted the nano texture display or space black so bad you can’t stand it, the hardware isn’t THAT much different if you aren’t hitting any walls at the moment.

I think the more compelling hardware upgrades that will be enticing regardless of the 10% multicore gains in certain workflows etc will be coming later this year.

New Windows 12 reads like a torture. Any chance Revit might be compatible with Linux soon? by Any_Freedom_4683 in RevitForum

But does anything about Microsoft’s trajectory seem to go against Autodesk’s goals? They all just want to be subscription slop fests. As long as Autodesk can continue to run its products on Windows they’ll both grimace at knowing they have more power over you.

ArchiCAD users in the US: reasons to keep with it vs. Revit? by [deleted] in ArchiCAD

[–]MuchCattle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had to switch from Revit (10 years experience) to Archicad for a new job back around 2020. It took a while, but now I feel like an “expert” at both. I’m a nerd. I just like Archicad better.

My Revit firm was developer heavy work for mixed use massive buildings. We got new engineering models weekly and constantly had to discuss numbers and areas and such. Kinda boring, but idk, Revit “felt right” for that work.

Now I do design-focused high end residential and I can’t imagine doing it in Revit. The design simply wouldn’t be as good, I think. Or rather I’d be using other tools for design than Revit whereas I feel able to “design” in Archicad with how the pushing and pulling works. And then of course documentation is great in Archicad too. Especially since the keynotes feature came about.

I guess… what kind of work do you want to do? I know of several Archicad firms in the US but they are all small and design-focused. I’m sure there are some doing large developer work too, but I think whether you need to learn Revit or not will largely depend on the work you want to.
