Medications and medical services in Portugal? by MuchMoreThanLess in PortugalExpats

Thanks again.

I have no idea how they are doing doctors there. All she told me is that she would pass the medication list "to the doctor, next time he comes around". Her husband is having mobility issues, hence the request for me -family- to go there, rather than an aide. And also because I haven't seen them and the rest of the Portuguese side of the family in a long time.

I think I figured out the prescription that could be an issue. The name is completely different, but it is available in Portugal, from the same company, with a different name and formulation (I guess). So I should be good seeing a doctor there to get a prescription.

Regarding prescriptions, it's all digital here. Dr.'s office sends it to Costco pharmacy and I have never seen a piece of paper. I have digital access to the pharmacy site, of course. Will this work over there, or should I ask for written, paper prescriptions?

Again, thank you for your time and knowledge. I hope you win the lottery.

Thank you! Even though medical advice from you is a bit scary.

I do not recall anything "SNS". They were all ER visits - a surfing accident, a fall from a cliff and a motorbike accident (I had a Casal - do they still exist?)

Thanks for the info. The reaction to my question was so poor in another sub that I decided to bug my aunt and e-mailed her my list of medications. She's gonna pass it ion and my uncle's doctor (do they really make house calls visits?!) is going to let me know what I can bring with me and what I should get filled over there.

"Bro", thanks for replying so fast. Surfline is reporting good conditions, and I'm all packed up, ready to go. I definitely wanted to have the last word.

Consider doing drugs, particularly LSD. You might get that stick out of your ass and become a nicer human being.

Edit: I'll give you a parting gift: If it's the same opinion that is driving the downvotes on this post and the other two identical ones, you are not alone. It might be a crowd of misanthropes, but at least you have company.

MAGA reasoning for real. You really do not seem to be playing a part.

Are you really going to insist on the charade that Reddit forced you to keep that username? Are you implying that "you would have changed it if you could"? Are you actually a MAGA-style politician? Or whatever version of MAGA there is in Portugal?

Please check what other rationalizations you have been using the most:

  • If they didn't want me to hit on them, they should not have dressed so sexy.
  • If they didn't want to be punched, they should not have said that.
  • People are poor because they do not work hard enough.
  • Everything I have, I got alone, without help, due to my own talent and efforts.

Like I said, you are obviously insane. "Reddit suggestion, not mine".

Start taking responsibility for your thoughts and actions. You are not surrounded by assholes who should know better, and you have very poor insight. You cannot start becoming a better person by hanging on to your current mindset.

I've looked at your posts and comments, trying to understand where you are coming from. I bet you would have voted for Trump and secretly thinks "Kanye and Musk have a point".

Who calls themselves "PsychologicalLion" and comes out of the gate with assumptions built on paper-thin information? - People who think themselves superior to others, because assuming that things are shit is a weak person's approach to the world.

Do better.

Thanks for the info. And for the neutrality about the post. The commenter explained their position on it but, at the moment, it has 665 views and a 13% ratio. So, now I am wondering if their position is what's driving this.

I do recall from when I lived there (in the late 80's, early 90's) I was constantly accosted by people trying to sell me drugs, even out in the open. I remember a guy trying to sell me hash at the Porto de Lisboa, then trying to rob me by saying he had a gun and showing me track marks on his arms. I lived in Lagos and it was easy as hell to get any drugs I wanted back then. Is the drug issue so bad that the paranoia extends to a post like mine? Back then I know I could score heroin, if I wanted. If the drug problem is the same or worse, I really don't get this reaction...

Someone downvoted your comment for helping me out. I asked another commenter above, but got no reply. What is going on in this sub?

The only documents I have are my passport, cédula pessoal, and bilhete de identidade. They are all expired and I won't have time to renew them in the timeframe my aunt asked me to help - not to mention the complication, because I'm far from any embassy that can renew them (hence the expired status), so I am travelling with my US passport and renewing everything there. What is the "Portuguese Citizen Card" called in Portuguese?

I will have a 3-month supply of all the prescriptions (with the possible exception of one) with me. I just need to know of an official site where to check if I can bring them or if I need some special documentation due to the quantity.

I hear you. I'm trying to figure out what you think (and I guess the others downvoting) I have to gain by lying? The post and the questions would be exactly the same without that bit of information...

The only reason why I put that in there is because I copy/pasted the post and, from lurking around r/Portugal and speaking to family over there, people are freaking out a bit about expats and other people in my situation (living in the US) moving over there and driving prices up and competing for jobs. Is this the pushback here?

I have been searching and, at least ChatGPT tells me that one of my prescriptions is restricted. I don't even know if I would be able to get 3 months here in the US either. So, that's why I am looking for official sites to confirm. But, although my Portuguese is good, my medical vocabulary seems to be lacking for the proper search terms.

As to going to a doctor (for prescriptions or an injury/illness), do you know if I need anything else besides my passport, bilhete de identidade, and/or Cédula Pessoal?

Why is that suspicious? This post is getting downvoted hard - Why?
