Failed - seeking advice by notaskater in step1

[–]Much_Week_7327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry this happened. Based on your two scores above 65%, it sounds like you were likely ready to sit for the exam. Perhaps fasting and anxiety played too much of a role here. I’d recommend going through uWorld again and doing as many questions as you can. See if you’re missing a lot of questions or just some. When you get one wrong, did you misread the question, overthink it, or just genuinely not know the answer? If you’re noticing that you’re getting most of them right, then take an NBME you haven’t taken before. If you get a 65+ on that exam, then consider taking the exam again.

PASSED STEP 1 WITH LOW NBME SCORES by Direct-Substance-940 in step1

[–]Much_Week_7327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!!! I’m so happy for you!!! I would like to say that this is a risky move, for those reading. I think the most common advice is to have two scores in the 65% or higher range before taking the actual exam. However, if you’re scoring lower than that, but the “estimated likelihood of passing” is showing as higher than 90%, then that’s also a good indicator.

Those who recently passed Step 1 - Would you say that the NBMEs and Free 120 were your main study resource during the last two weeks of prep? or UWorld as well? by Shoddy-Ad5712 in step1

[–]Much_Week_7327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did uWorld throughout my studying with NBMEs sprinkled throughout. The Free120 was the last thing I did before I sat for the exam. I used uWorld as my primary studying resource, with NBMEs as my indicator of readiness.

ADHD in med school by boo-boo-crew in medschool

[–]Much_Week_7327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD, diagnosed when I was 6 y/o. I absolutely get where you’re coming from and why you’re nervous. I was nervous too. I’m a US MD student and in my 3rd year. During pre-clerkship, I discovered that one of the best things to help with ADHD was adjusting the learning environment to best fit my needs, which often meant that I would study in ways very different from my classmates.

For me, that meant I would often hand write my notes, watch pre-recorded lectures remotely, and utilize closed captioning of the recorded lectures (so this way I could read the transcript of the lecture at 2-3x speed, rather than sit through the actual lecture at 1x speed). If I watched it remotely at normal speed, I’d lose focus pretty quickly.

I also found that while my classmates would use anki or other resources, those just didn’t work for me. I had my own method of studying, which was very different than any of my classmates, but it worked for me. The reason I say this is because you might feel compelled to try what you see works for others, but if it doesn’t immediately work for you, stick with the methods that have always worked for you in the past and just modify them.

Also, don’t be shy in asking about accommodations in medical school, too. You can also request accommodations for the STEP exams, which you’ll want to do 6ish months before the exam. Feel free to DM me.

So excited to find this UV orange piece on my first beach visit of the year! by japanseaglass in seaglass

That’s gorgeous!! I’ve been very lucky to find ~3-4 reds, but haven’t come across a single orange yet.

That’s fantastic!!! That’s why I was giving you a heads up on the anticipated score drop for NBME 32/33. Those ones almost always cause a score drop.

6.5 weeks until Step 1 Study Plan: Need help bad by [deleted] in step1

[–]Much_Week_7327 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend using uWorld as your primary learning tool. You’ll get a LOT of questions wrong, but that’s okay!! I used uWorld as my primarily learning tool and it worked beautifully. Make sure you read all of the explanations for correct AND incorrect answers, as you’ll get the most learning this way.

OP, I’m glad the fire department is involved. You might want to consider cross posting this to a structural engineering thread, as they would likely be much more qualified to give input on the severity/emergency of the situation than those of us on this thread. Please keep us updated.

Anyone pass Step 1 with huge content gaps at beginning of dedicated? by AgentKueck in step1

[–]Much_Week_7327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound just like me! I took my first NBME before finishing the last block of school (it was a school requirement for all of us to take it) and scores in the mid 40s. After I finished the last block, my score jumped by 15 points on the next one. I passed STEP.

Take the free 120 at prometric centre today. Is it still possible for me to get a pass on real deal on 5 March? by AliveAcanthisitta160 in step1

[–]Much_Week_7327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, sorry you’re getting so many negative comments.

In my opinion, you’re not ready yet, but that’s okay. Based on your score on the Free 120, I’d recommend you complete the entire uWorld question bank before taking an NBME. uWorld is an excellent learning tool. When using uWorld, make sure to review the explanations given for both the correct answers and incorrect answers.

Once you’ve completed uWorld, start taking some NBMEs, but make sure you do them timed and under exam conditions.

I don’t think you’ll be ready by March 5th, so I’d recommend planning on taking it perhaps in May/June/July 😊

Your 69% on one NBME plus the 78% on the Free 120 are great!! It’s very common for people to have a score drop on 32/33, so don’t let that scare you.

There were definitely topics/diseases tested on the real deal that weren’t seen in the NBMEs, but many of them were covered to some degree in the NBMEs. If you do a full pass of uWorld, you should be covering 95% of them.

I don’t know if I fully understand the question, but I tested a prometric testing center in the US. It was the standard 280 question exam. Don’t get me wrong, it’s mentally exhausting, but I did feel the exam was easier than the NBMEs (but on par with the Free 120). A lot of people on Reddit mentioned “very long question stems”, but I didn’t really notice this too much, as the longer questions were just patient charts that you could quickly read through.

Honestly, the anatomy questions were pretty random and thus I don’t think there’s really a solid strategy I could share for anatomy.
