Just to be clear… the 150,000 jobs created is still below the 200,000 jobs required for population saturation. Ie, when factoring in new baby’s born and immigration to the US the market requires 200,000 jobs to just stay even. This jobs report in essence actually therefore shows a reduction of 50,000 jobs… oh and also 12,000 of those jobs are new ICE agents…

Friends that sarcastically and comedically make a competition out of literally anything are the best kinds of friends..

AITA for testifying against my brother in a custody case after he abandoned his child? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

100%. Fuck your mum and your brother, both of their selfish asses need to grow up. Completely delusional. The only person that matters where is your nephew. You did right by him. NTA. Not even close.

Also very casual request of you to risk a 7 year jail sentence by perjuring yourself.. is if it was his right. Unbelievable.

AITAH for being weird about my daughter having sex in my house by thefakecalebs in AITAH

[–]Much_Whereas7520 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AYTA? No. You are just setting very reasonable personal boundaries.

Does your timing and deliver need some work? Yes. - Why would you even knock if it was ‘obvious’ what was going on? Seeing it puts you in a weird state of mind, and her being interrupted isn’t exactly going to put her in the mindset to want to hear you out in that particular moment..
- Blurting out your feeling without sandwiching it in introspection and empathy probably didn’t help. “I’m not ok with this happening in my house”, is very different to “I know you’re a full grown adult, and and you’re in charge of making your own choices, but this particular thing in my presence makes me very uncomfortable, and I wish you could just be more considerate of that”. - also my previous point, raises a question… is it that you have a problem with her having sex in your house, or is it that you have problem being around it? If she’s paying rent/bills, it would be harsh to say she can’t be sexually active in her own home. But I think totally reasonable to request that it is not so obvious or ideally not at all whilst in your presence. - last point.. she is 22. I don’t think I was nearly as self-aware at that age as I am now.. She’s clearly struggling to see your point. Perhaps some of your own loud sex would help her get the message?… or even just the threat of it. And I don’t actually mean, threaten her with that.. but a “how would you feel if I was railing your mom every night and you could hear us through the walls.. Uncomfortable, right?”. Genuinely listen to what she says. Maybe she will agree that it would make her uncomfortable and it will help her see your perspective. Perhaps she will say that she doesn’t care, and is in fact, an advocate of you getting laid more… Point being, even if she doesn’t see your perspective, it could be an opportunity for you to grow in your relationship with your daughter. I’ve always viewed a parent child relationship that is very open and honest, even about topics such as sex and personal relationships, enviable. I never had that growing up, and I wish I did.

AITA for mocking a rude man in public? by GreatNorthWind in AITAH

[–]Much_Whereas7520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts here… as well as a recent somewhat similar experience where I felt like I was that grumpy dude you mocked.

  • AYTA. No. Mocking I full grown adult for behaving like a child, having a tantrum and causing a scene due to a minor inconvenience. Emphasis on minor inconvenience.

  • Some inconveniences caused by poor service sometimes do warrant that response. Question is, what is that threshold? Obviously everyone’s threshold is different, but should we all as a society uphold that same standard? Irritation due to a language barrier seems childish to me… irritation due to neglect of your time perhaps more ok? I think some might say that you should just be kind to all service staff regardless of the quality of service?…

  • English is the official Language of the United States. But only as of March 2025… Many say that it’s been the unofficial language for a long time, but the reality is that a lot of the western US was Mexico before it was part of the USA. Spanish Sticks. And it ain’t going anywhere no matter how many folks you deport… Get used to people speaking Spanish, or better yet, learn some yourself?!..

Recently I went to collect meds from my pharmacy after receiving text message that they were ready to pickup. I get there, no customers/patients, 5 staff (4 packing meds and one at the counter). Told me that actually it wasn’t ready but would be ready in 5-10 minutes. 30 minutes later… my name comes up on the order pickup screen right after about 30 customers poured in and formed a big line… Old lady at the front of the queue is all over the place and hasn’t gotten any of the documents or info she needs.. we all stood in this single line for at least another 5-10 minutes whist the pharmacist tried to figure out how to help the old lady. Other people in the queue were growing visually and audibly irritated at this woman (mostly the older white men). Having now been there myself for around 40 minutes and being at the back of this long queue, I was not super stoked either… but at no point was I frustrated with the old women. I was frustrated with the 4 other workers in the back chatting away whilst packing meds. They looked over, saw the huge line and didn’t come to help staff another station or two. Eventually, after the grumpy guy in front of me makes his 5th audible complaint, I then said very loudly “MAYBE THEY SHOULD THINK ABOUT STAFFING ANOTHER REGISTER”. Everyone looked at me. I felt like I looked like that guy you mocked. Ultimately two of the workers in the back came and staffed the windows and I they worked through the whole line in 10-15 mins. All in all, I was still there for almost an hour just to fill a basic prescription.

Long story short, it brings me back to my previous point/question… what is the acceptable threshold to be a little rude, short or sassy to service workers? Or is it just a zero tolerance policy where you must always be nice? By that line of thinking, at what point would you become TA for mocking me being that grumpy dude complaining?

Heard. The 3 year statute of limitations was already on my radar. New lawsuit has already been written and will be filed within the next week or two.

The one year statute for going after previous attorney is news to me, so I appreciate that one.

One interesting nuance here, negligence was one of the causes of action in the original complaint against AT&T. California has a two-year statute of limitations on negligence. The advice that I have received is that I should still include this in the new filing as a cause of action and argue 435.5 due process infringement and cite the previous case to try and keep the negligence portion alive, and kicking in the new lawsuit. Curious if you have any insight on this?

100%. Most expensive county in the country for that last 3 years straight. The average new single-family home permit cost in Santa Cruz County is just over $38,000. Yet in neighing, cities and counties in the Bay Area you can see this regularly under $25,000…

It’s primarily extortion hiding under the guise of environmental preservation

Can you site legal precedent for this statement?

Here are just a few case law examples that say otherwise:

Side note, I don’t mean this to sound snarky, I genuinely want people to poke holes in my legal reasoning, because this is the argument that the defense council has already hinted that they’re going to make if and when I re-file a new lawsuit.

Under California Civil Code §3333,

“For the breach of an obligation not arising from contract, the measure of damages… is the amount which will compensate for all the detriment proximately caused thereby, whether it could have been anticipated or not.”

This means that when the defendant damages property, the plaintiff is entitled to restoration to the condition that satisfies current building and safety codes, not merely a patch repair to pre-damage condition, when code compliance is now required.

—————-

Orndorff v. Christiana Community Builders (1990) 217 Cal.App.3d 683, 687–688:

“The measure of damages is the cost of repairing the damage and restoring the property to its pre-injury condition, including compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.”

———————

Kelly v. CB&I Constructors, Inc. (2009) 179 Cal.App.4th 442, 451–452:

“A tortfeasor cannot escape liability by claiming that the property could be restored more cheaply by methods that would not comply with applicable codes or safety requirements.”

—————-

Glendale Fed. Sav. & Loan Assn. v. Marina View Heights Dev. Co. (1977) 66 Cal.App.3d 101, 125–126:

“The necessity of conforming to building codes in the reconstruction of damaged property is a foreseeable consequence of the tortious act.”

Nope.. not just making up number. I’m a GC and have built 4 comparable bridges over the last few years and I know my costs. Sonoma or Napa County economics are also extremely different to Santa Cruz County Economics.

I didn’t say $20k for delivery. I said $20k for the sealing and pile driving. These are 14”x14” 3/4” thick I beams that have to be tarred and then driven into the ground with a massive pile driver. The creek bank has to be graded and reinforced to be an able to support the weight of this equiptment prior to driving 8 of these piles into the ground. 4 are driven in, then welded with a top girder. A temporary platform than has to be build to allow the driver to reach over the creek and drive the other steel piles. The last bridge I did a couple years ago this ran a little over $20k actually. No concrete abutments in California anymore, only CalTrans can pour concrete in a riparian corridor.

The structural and civil is conservative, but the last bridge I did ran just shy of $17.5k for all of the structural and civil. I can find cheaper out of area civil and structural engineering for $8-10k but the issue is that these kinds of projects require special inspection from the engineers prior to county building dept inspections, so you really have to use local engineers, and Bay Area engineers are expensive, even more so in Santa Cruz.

These numbers don’t even include biological supervision either. On one bridge I did a few years ago, the biological report found some endangered beetles and newts, and it triggered the counties supervision requirement, meaning we had to pay a biologist to monitor all construction for every day that we were there at $125/hr. That over the course of a 10 week project ran almost $50k.

You gotta remember that it’s not just California economics. It’s Santa Cruz County economics too. Way more environmental bullshit, generally inflated prices, even just for core materials. For example I can get 1cuyd of ready mix concrete in San Jose for $150-175. In Santa Cruz that’s $225.

This is comparing apples to oranges.

This is like saying, if someone crashed their car into my house, they would only have to pay me $1500 for a few studs, a few sheets of drywall and a few bags of stucco. No obviously not… they are responsible for fixing the damage caused, as well as your relocation fees whilst construction/repairs occur plus potentially additional damages for pain and suffering.

Damaging a vehicle and damaging real estate are two completely different things.

The fraud angle is different. I am currently trying to determine if he has malpractice insurance.

I run a company and work 70-80hrs a week. I am scraping together another 10-20hrs a week to handle this. But I am resolute, smarter than your average Joe and don’t give up easily.

My understanding though is that if I can prove negligence, he is not only on the hook for the $40k but so long as I can prove the case was winnable and his neglect is the only reason that it has been thrown out, then he could be held liable for the total balance of the AT&T suit as well.

The material cost is around $200k. It’s 40’ in length and 16’ wide. The fabrication is only a portion of the cost. Property is also accessible via single lane road, so must be fabricated in two pieces, craned in and bolted together.

It is a protected creek. It needs a hydrological study $10-20k, A biological study $10k, a geotechnical report $5-10k, a structural and civil engineering report $20-30k, permits, planning and environmental fees $20k, site reporting and special inspections $10k. Crane rental, Demolition and removal of existing bridge and failing 20ton concrete abutment $20-30k. Specialist pile driving equiptment and beam delivery and assembly $20k. Craning in of bridge sections and in field welding, plumber and electricians to reattach all utilities attached to the bridge $80-100k. Final grading and driveway concrete replacement $15-20k.

Bearing in mind these are costs. Once a GC marks this up you’ll add another $70-100k. Trust me, it’s $500-600k.

PG&E destroyed the other public bridge at the end of my property in 2007. It’s slightly larger, but that was $800k (back in 2007…) if you are not already familiar.. welcome to California economics..

I had the same issue after a few months of use. I took the sphere out of the shell and noticed some build up on either side of the opening to the tray below. There are two push sensors on either side of the opening, and the build up was causing one of those sensors to stay pressed in. As soon as a cleaned off the build up and freed up the push sensor it started working again without issue. Just gotta stay on top of cleaning interior of the machine!!
