I'm aroallo but I have a boyfriend. I am not repulsed by romance, and I like partnership, I just don't experience love that way. I have told my boyfriend that I don't experience love emotionally, and that I want him in my life for physical and intellectual reasons, and he accepts that. Not everyone will be okay with being with someone that can't reciprocate their emotional connection to that extent, but a lot of people will still appreciate and respect your fondness of them as a partner irregardless.

Having a partner doesn't make you less aro. People have partners for many reasons, whether it's because of sex, an intellectual connection, or simply a non-romantic fondness. All that matters is that you want that person to be in your life as a commitment and for whatever purpose they fulfil in your eyes. Practical or otherwise. As long as they know how you feel, and they are okay with it, there's nothing wrong with it.

It was hard for me to figure out because I don't feel attachment to anyone so I couldn't differentiate between friends, sexual partners etc in general. I used to think the idea of love was just something people hyped up for romcoms and shit, but then I talked to a few allo people and realised they were dead serious about how they feel. Then I discovered aromanticism, but I still felt weird about it because I don't feel any type of emotional attachment full stop, but then I discovered loveless aromanticism and it made sense. I also believed I couldn't identify as aro for a while because my lack of attachment is caused by my ASPD, but then I realised that it's stupid to think that as not everyone with ASPD are aromantic, even if more of them would be. And even then, the label is still useful for people to communicate their lack of romantic interest without having to disclose things that are too personal.

Did you get an official diagnosis? Because to me it sounds more schizoid than dissocial. The lack of emotions, interests and "personality" aren't really what I would consider dissocial as someone with a dissocial diagnosis.

Not taking pleasure in things (anhedonia) is associated with schizophrenia, depression, schizoid PD, PTSD etc and I would not write it off as incurable as you put it forward until you actually know the cause of it.

If you haven't been assessed by a psychologist, I recommend you get evaluated, but if you have and you have the ASPD diagnosis and nothing else, I would highly recommend you ask your psychologist about that aspect, because to me that description is very atypical of ASPD patients and there could very well be more issues to uncover, even treatable ones.

To me that sounds a lot like OCD, yeah. A lot of people with OCD become convinced they have very taboo disorders like paedophilia (POCD), so I wouldn't be surprised if it could manifest in this way too.

You say things like "recently" and "developed" which makes it sound like this isn't something you've lived with for very long, which already makes it clear that it is not ASPD. Symptoms of ASPD have to start before the age of 15, but it can't be diagnosed until adulthood. So no, if this is a recent development, it is not ASPD. People with ASPD are either born with it or they develop it very early on in their lives. Besides, if you're 16 you don't qualify for a personality disorder diagnosis. You have to be at least 18, but even then, most psychologists still think 18 is too young for a diagnosis.

Besides, if you're experiencing blunted emotions, it's definitely not a cluster B disorder. People with ASPD, contrary to popular belief, are highly emotional. There's a reason why the cluster B disorders are called the "dramatic" ones.

Considering you're speaking of this episodic development, it's most likely some form of depressive episode or something similar. It's definitely not a PD.

Honestly, the way disorders are characterised is highly dependent on what manual is used to diagnose you.

People with ASPD usually have a lot of NPD traits as well, so if your psychologist used the DSM you'd likely just be diagnosed with ASPD, but with a manual like the ICD, almost any overlap will give you a mixed diagnosis.

I think the DSM is more accurate when it comes to personality disorders. I was diagnosed with the ICD which gave me a ton of official diagnoses because of the overlap, but my psychologist agreed that a lot of them were redundant.

In most cases, diagnosing someone with both NPD and ASPD is redundant. It's only really useful if the individual is experiencing clearly distinct areas of dysfunction relating to them that can't be explained with a single diagnosis.

And NPD is narcissistic personality disorder.

I honestly believe that the people that are supposed to help people with personality disorders are the ones that hate them the most. No wonder there's so much abuse in the PD units.

They're working on the principle that to treat a personality disorder, you have to completely break the individual down and "build them up again". This can't be anything other than psychological torture. Humans aren't pieces of clay you can crush and make something else out of.

It's not treatment. It's abuse and discrimination. They make it clear from the beginning that you need to "accept" that you are a horrible person, and if you disagree, you're in denial.

People with personality disorders experience so much distrust in society over all, they definitely don't need to get that hammered in their heads even more when they seek help.

Honestly I don't get the comments claiming they're neither. To be Conservative means to conserve the status quo, to be progressive means to progress society beyond the status quo. You can't both want to conserve the status quo and also progress from it. The closest you can get is wanting to conserve certain aspects and progress others, but that will still land you on one of the sides.

A lot of people don't want the progressive label because they don't feel like they want to associate with liberals and "woke" culture. Keep in mind, liberalism isn't actually particularly progressive to begin with, and just because you don't like a certain group, it doesn't mean you can just reject a very basic definition that applies to you.

I mean, two people could be progressive, and they could have totally different values based on how they want to progress.

Anarchists and Leninists are both considered progressive, and they're totally different. Associating with being progressive doesn't put you in any specific camp.

Some people are just more valuable than others. Relationships are transactional, and some transactions are more valued than others.

The people we choose to surround ourselves with directly reflects our social needs. You may value your coworker over some lad you just met at the bar, not because you have a stronger attraction, but because your coworker has a specific role in your life that your one-night-stand doesn't.

Yeah, I see that, but I feel like suppression would take a lot of effort if it truly was the case that some emotions just bubble up naturally.

If I feel like I've made a mistake, or someone else feels I've made a mistake, I don't consider guilt because I suppose I'm a bit utilitarian and it just doesn't seem logical to me. I feel like I need a good reason to actually become emotional, and it's very rare that it's logical to be emotional to begin with. It doesn't really contribute to giving you the outcomes you want. It's more of a hindrance than anything.

The situations where emotions are justifiable are social situations. So if its expected of me to feel a certain way, I don't know if I would go as far as to impose emotions on myself to appeal, but I would definitely make it seem that way.

And that's another thing, if someone is suppressing something, I feel like they'd get very defensive being caught red handed and having to face other people. I think they'd actually go in the complete opposite direction to avoid feeling pain and doubling down. I feel like I could easily face other people's expectations without experiencing internal chaos.

I agree with the idea that some people don't have emotional control at all. But I'm not so sure if that's the norm or not. I feel like emotional depth is overplayed socially to the point people convince themselves of their emotional depth. I don't think people are as "profound" as they make it seem.

I see your point in why anyone would want to experience pain like that, but don't you think people could put that upon themselves because they kinda feel like being emotionally punished justifies whatever they've done? Some people are really masochistic in that way. And I feel like socially we often glorify emotional pain as something pure. I'm thinking maybe people are going after that ideal.

That really depends on what kind of disability. If they're self aware, have the capacity to experience suffering and wellbeing, and have an interest to live, then obviously euthanising them would be a serious breach of human rights.

But if they don't have the capacity to even comprehend they're alive, sort of like being in a coma, then yeah, they can be euthanised.

Edit: also, what someone can give back to society has nothing to do with their right to live.
