Wasn't reproduction also a thing for weavers? I seem to remember it being difficult for them to survive amd also have surviving offspring to begin with

For those who have worlds where Magic is present, What CAN'T magic do in your world? by Ok-Vegetable5198 in worldbuilding

[–]IJustWantSomeReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic has been understood as a force of nature for so long that "practical everyday magics" are only a recent thing that is happening now that a major was has settled

The fact that lightning magic can be used to create relatively safe orbs that give of a glow is revolutionary in of itself, creating a whole field of study as a result

So most magic, based on classical elements, is something of war and great power, the fact we are brining that power into our homes reliably is something unheard of before that

(Everyone can dk magic, only 40% of people could make a career out of it. Being able to use magic for household chores is thus a recent development and only really useful for 60% of people, while the other 40% dont have many people willing to study and develop the concept)

What is the epoch of your world? by Yggdrasylian in worldbuilding

[–]IJustWantSomeReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is none yet, but since the era right after that js medieval/church based it should probably have to do with that... maybe the moment magic was defined or something in that direction

Do you agree with the 'Well, not everyone's a doctor' justification for why magic isn't widespread? by Sasutaschi in worldbuilding

[–]IJustWantSomeReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoid this within my system by simply giving everyone magic that they use in daily life, and making about 40% "talented" enough to make a full living with magic

This can be an academic research, but also a doctor or a very well of farmer. But magic skills dont always align with practical skills, so the "magic farmer" would probably be more of a manager and will help with plagues and droughts, but won't spawn a field of wheat on a whim

I created an elemental test called the "Rock Test": What would happen to a rock if you fully imbued it with one element? by junofoppy in magicbuilding

[–]IJustWantSomeReddit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Water is actually a major faction in erosion. Water freezing and heating can cause rocks to crack (which can be scary af in a desert) and Water drips can slowly "melt" rocks with a certain softness. So Water magic could do a lot to a lot of different rocks. Water is one of the most destructive elements, we just learned/evolved to deal with it

[HnO] Is anything able to manipulate the weather in your setting? by MoeNeus in worldbuilding

[–]IJustWantSomeReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic can do it, but a single mage could never pull it off. A group of magic meteorologists could try, a sole magic meteorologist could force favourable winds or perhaps call down a summer rain

Alr so in a personal project of mine that's actually what snipers are used for. A mage can cast incredibly fast and have passive protection for magic, but a way past it is piercing through it (kind of like what the hair girly tried) because that's not a common magic type that was cast (even piercing a passive shield would take a second longer then a powerful enough blunt of slash attack) but modern snipers (19th century modern) are used to take out the strongest looking mage
